The Queen of Light took her bow And then she turned to go, The Prince of Peace embraced the gloom And walked the night alone. Oh, dance in the dark of night, Sing to the morning light. The dark Lord rides in force tonight And time will tell us all. Oh, throw down your plow and hoe, Rest not to lock your homes. Side by side we wait the might Of the darkest of them all. I hear the horses' thunder Down in the valley below, I'm waiting for the angels of Avalon, Waiting for the eastern glow. The apples of the valley hold, The seeds of happiness, The ground is rich from tender care, Repay, do not forget, no, no. Oh, dance in the dark of night, Sing to the morning light. The apples turn to brown and black, the tyrant's face is red. Oh the war is common cry, pick up your swords and fly. The sky is filled with good and bad That mortals never know. Oh, well, the night is long, the beads of time pass slow, Tired eyes on the sunrise, waiting for the eastern glow. The pain of war cannot exceed The woe of aftermath, The drums will shake the castle wall, The ring wraiths ride in black, ride on. Sing as you raise your bow, Shoot straighter than before. No comfort has the fire at night That lights the face so cold. Oh dance in the dark of night, Sing to the mornin' light. The magic runes are writ in gold To bring the balance back, bring it back. At last the sun is shining, the clouds of blue roll by, With flames from the dragon of darkness The sunlight blinds his eyes.
It really is a brilliant storytelling with so much atmosphere. The Battle of Evermore has a lot of Lord of the Rings references in it but it isn't necessarily just LOTR but a more universal good versus evil fantasy story that you can easily substitute in any of the whole farmboy-turned-hero books like Magician, the Belgariad etc that were written after this song was released. Each inspires the other in a rolling homage. Tolkein's work was not some bolt out of the blue either, but based on centuries of western european myth and fairy tale. And yes, Jimmy Page was famous for how much he loved his multi-necked guitars.
For me, this one one of the absolute highlights of the P&P experience. Najma Akhta's voice is incredible; her vocal ululations are just perfect. And to my mind, this is the best vocal duet of Plant's career.
This concert was epic!!! .....& If u want to see another triple neck guitar, go to see Bon Jovi-Wanted dead or alive live in Russia, one of the must epic solos of Richie Sambora
Yeah and probably Jimmy Page is the only one that could play that triple neck instrument! Looks like a mandolin, a 12 string guitar, and a 6 string guitar! Page is a Maestro!
A band called The Lovemongers did a cover of this back in the early 90's, and I actually prefer it over the original. There's a few live versions on UA-cam with terrible video quality, but "decent" audio quality
Props to you guys for getting the live version on YT, not many & I looked, awesome performance, thanx guys ! 🙂
The Voice of Najma Akhtar is absolutely Mindblowing!
Absolutely brilliant! The vocals, arrangements, all of it. And who doesn't love the sound of a mandolin? Made my day.
This is the Godfather of guitar playing! Sir Page!!!!!!
Yep. Page playing the triple neck 6,8 and 12 string "mandolin" I guess.....haunting. I love it
Fairport Convention's Sandy Denny was on the original. She got her own runic symbol for the fourth album--the three triangles.
Ah the influence of Tolkien. Such a beautiful ethereal song.
Yeah. The Hermit with the Lantern isn't like Gandalf or anything lol
from the 'creative expansion' of the time the music was very much a part of our lives , thanks
I saw Page and Plant in London with the Egyptian ensemble , it was fantastic amazing night.
FIRE!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Just brilliant! Nothing more to say!
We love you guys

great track hey. Mandolin is a small stringed instrument , A sitar is an indian stringed instrument. Mr Page is know for having multi instruments
John Paul Jones used to play a triple neck during the acoustic parts of Zeppelin concerts.
Heart does the most epic cover of this
It's better imo. They did acoustic sets under the Lovemongers name
It was too cool live!!!
It really is a brilliant storytelling with so much atmosphere.

I saw this tour and went both nights they were in town.
Led Zeppelin! Always a step ahead of everyone else! what a killer song....
Travis
As other comments mention, Page is playing mandolin, sitar, and guitar combo. Page is multi-instrumentalist.
Wow!!!FIRE!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

2nd but only because sandy denny was and will always be a legend
You need to check out Kashmir from this concert!!! That's the best live version of this song!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
nah knebworth and 2007 are far better
my all time fav led zep song
Where many bands have musicians for each instrument, Jimmy has 3 necks on his instrument.
I love this song so much. John Paul Jones played the mandolin on the record, but jimmy does a great job here.🔥🔥👍🏼👍🏼
wow suzi talk about the amazing blue eyes
It’s a mandolin,12 string and 6 string and you have to listen to the studio version
You really should listen to Heart doing this song. Absolutely AMAZING!!
i think the "bring it back" part was Robert calling for an encore from Najma
The Guitar player ( the bold one ) is from The Cure and the drummer from The Cult 🤘😎
This concert was epic!!! .....& If u want to see another triple neck guitar, go to see Bon Jovi-Wanted dead or alive live in Russia, one of the must epic solos of Richie Sambora
You mentioned that group in the same sentence as The Mighty Zep?
Omg.
@@Anne-pv9cb hahaha yes, i know, but just for that guitar
One of or the best of Zeppelin..
Welcome to the world of folk rock. You need to listen to Autumn by Strawbs, Reynardine by Fairport Convention or Tam Lin by Steeleye Span
Ann & Nancy's version 1995 R&R HOF. dig

It would be very remiss of you... if you don't do KASHMIR with this Egyptian Orchestra.
Because you would be missing out. 😎

Ok, truth be told, I absolutely hate Zeppelin live...but now I must make the exception. Real nice. Your reactions were great.
the instrument..6 string ,12 string, and mandolin
Mandolin
I don't like the additional woman's backup here, too heavy. But nonetheless a great.
They just never disappoint. It's seems like yesterday that I watched this but it's been close to 30 years ago. It still makes me smile🎶🎼🎵
Same Shelley ..😊🌹
it would have helped if the woman actually learned the lyrics
My impression was she didn't speak English.
@@robbob5302 she should she lives in England
@@brianrussell6570
Oh I assumed she was Egyptian.
Then yes she could have carried more of the workload. I agree.
Her voice is too heavy for this.
Triceritaur
I don't like this version of the battle of evermore. I like the song with Sandy Denny better
