Landreforms and debt relief are major achievements of the 5 years of Shiekh Abdullah 'rule. (1948 to 53 ) He was first to introduce Landreforms in 1948 which angered upper class Hindus who were big land owners and this led to his arrest in 1953. In Pakistan Landreforms are yet to take place.
I was posted in Kashmir for several decades studied her and her people. Sheikh Abdullah was indeed a self-made man though he had a very good lineage. He was over six feet five inches tall! His ancestor was a Kashmiri Brahman (Pandit) Raghu Ram Kaul. Thus he belonged to the Central Asian Aryan Race. Like us Jat-Sikhs Kashmiris rarely marry non-Kashmiris (both the Kashmiri Pandits and Kashmiri Muslims) thus he made a grave error in marrying a non-Kashmiri lady of mix-heritage. Few Kashmiris who have married outside Kashmir are pseudo-westernized or have family problems. Subsequently his son Farooq and grandson Omar and others followed this trend thus this family has now disintegrated and can not be referred to as Kashmiris either. His granddaughter has married a cow-herdsman of the Gujjar background! Sad end to their great lineage.
The guy has no understanding of Kashmir and is talking nonsense. Kashmir is a region of Bharat (where she belongs) due significantly to Maharaja Ranjit Singh Sandhu, Pandit Birbal Dhar and Raja Gulab Singh Jamwal. POK shall be surely liberated when an effective leader arrives in Bharat.

Shiekh Abdullah was arrested in 1953 and not 1956 . The narrator is not fully aware of facts. Shiekh Abdullah was imprisioned in Kodikanal South India in 1965.
