Thank you so much for this video. Today I replaced the RCA-cable. The old one was fixed with electrical tape by the previous owner. I had a slightly quiet humming noise that bothered me. After configuring the JST-XH 5pin Plug with a fresh and shielded cable, I had some issues getting the thick cable routed. Now the turntable sounds like new. Greetings from Germany!

Great video, however, you should show how you soldered the new RCA connectors. I have this TT , and it is notorious for this precise issue. I would love to see how you soldered the new Connectors. The way I see it, all I need to do is cut off the old RCA connectors and solder on new ones. BTW, my stereo repair guy told me to be sure to cut the old ones off 1 inch beyond the boot on the wire!!!
You have one source more, it's the earth on the bearing. That can stop work and it hard to get fixed.

I have hum problems with Garrard tables the most, if not all of them. My 2 Duals and 2 BSR's don't have any.
I even tried a ground loop suppressor with no success.
It is possible for any brand to have this type of hum issue. It is likely an issue with the wiring. I would try to address the source then try to suppress it. Isolate each component to determine where the hum is being generated.
Ripewave.. THX for this video. I have this Exact Problem: Extreme HUM which is coming form deteriorated RCA connectors from the Dual CS 5000 TT. At first, I thought it was form the input jacks at the NAD Preamp. I had a stereo shop look at it, found some burnet out diodes which were replaced. Then I when I brought it home, and hooked it yp to the TT - The HUM was still there. I finally determined by Jiggling the connectors that the HUM was coming from the RCA connectors. What Brand do you recommend to get? I presume the Solder ones are the ones to get?
Does anyone know where I can get the dust cover and hinges? Just purchased the CS5000 and love it, but no cover or hinges
I have a hum from my phono stage on a integrated amp and on a receiver but only with the rca cable connected to the units and not to the turntable if i disconnect the rca cable the hum is gone
I tried plugging in both 2 a different outlet and got the same results
could this be a bad mains ground ?
I also tried different cables with the sam results
Those were beautiful looking decks, but were a little over-priced for the performance they provided.
That’s fair. Sorry for the delay - busy times. I feel my aim is Mid-FI and realize there are other more competent options. I do like the experience and esthetic these two deliver. I appreciate the feedback. -Jon
I’m going to replace my wood plinth, do I need to take the feet off, or can I follow your process...backwards?
Yes - you will need to remove the feet to replace the wood plinth. Go to about 15:23 into the video and you will see the underside of the plinth. There are threaded parts on the plinth that need to first go through holes on the plastic base of the turntable before the feet can be reassembled. I suspect you can reverse the process shown in the video at that point for disassembly- good luck!

@@ripewave Thanks for the reply. I’ve replaced my black base for the wood colour one, problem is now, I cannot get it the way I had it set originally. The set up with the feet is causing the chassis to move too much. I ended up packing foam into and under it. Not perfect by any means. Thanks for your informative vid. Great turntables. I got mine four years ago with the OM20 fitted for £60!!
How do you change a belt?
Take the platter off. Fit the new belt on the rim on the underside of the platter. Reach through one of the holes on the top of the platter so you can pull the belt out a bit. Replace the platter and put the belt over the motor pulley. Done.
Your stereo system will only be as good as the cheapest part.I would suggest a nicer pair of cables.
The immediate goal for this repair was to address the hum. I was able to address with the original cable that came hardwired to the Dual turntable by replacing the connectors. The connectors I used were just lying around the house but were good enough to address the hum successfully as a short term solution (but were equivalent to what Dual had originally provided). Apparently Dual didn't feel anything further was required for this level of product. Of course, there is always a step higher. -Jon
@ripewave I am lucky enough to own a 1219 and 1229 love these old tables ,they sound like a clock working.
