Today was the first sunny day in March and we got to 62 degrees. It was glorious! I am dirty from my head to my feet, ha! Lot's of dirt therapy, shed cleaning, chicken yard maintenance. You are right, hopeful is the word of the day!
Hand raising definitely makes them more aggressive, not because of confusion, but because they have no fear of you. They are actually treating you like they do each other. Bulls push each other around and fight, geese are territorial.
Oh, NO! *It is goose mating season. I just know that goose was protecting his mate and/or her eggs or goslings.* I am so sad that this happened, but he was just doing his job. My geese are toddler-safe EXCEPT during mating season. They attack anything that gets near their mates, their eggs or their goslings. It is on US to keep social distance during mating season. Once I learned that, I have not been attacked.
Just as you are protecting your child, so was the goose.
This goose doesn’t have a mate. He is a guard goose. And the problem with him is that he will run across the whole property to attack and he won’t back down. We have had geese for years. Our kids know how to behave around them and to carry a stick , but this goose has to go to the cooking pot.
@@Brifromscratch I'm so sorry. He's probably better roasted, then.
We are set to close on our tiny homestead mid April and im so excited we will close in time to plant!
Thank you, Bri, for your wonderful and hopeful spring message. Today, it’s sunny but 32*F and windy in Massachusetts. I was feeling the winter sadness but your hopeful spirit reminded me of the warmer times to come.
I live in Massachusetts as well. Way western mass.. and Thursday is supposed to be 61!!!! I can’t believe it lol I feel like this winter has been especially brutal!
@@zenaboylston5028 it has been brutal. It was almost 60 today in the Blackstone Valley. Spring is coming.
I was walking from the pond to the house with my uncle when a goose attacked me and drew blood on my fingers and hand. My Uncle reached out and wrung it’s neck faster than a blink. Poor Brighton, that’s scary for a little kid. Tell him he just got a big virtual hug. 🤗
Thank you for sharing everything.Congrats on the new little baby on the way.God bless you all.
What a fun day! It is glorious to enjoy that sunshine, like a big hug to your bones....
The sun is like healing balm for the weary winter heart ❤️ nice quote from Bri ❤️
Thank you again for sharing your journeys of spring. God bless you all.
It's always so wonderful to see a new video from you folks and always so sad when it's over....so I watch it one more time to start my day off in a happy mood!!
Bri you are such a beautiful soul. Your joy is infectious ❤️
Can’t wait for warmer and longer days! Blessings to you all
Your videos always brighten my days! I agree about feeling spring, I am NC also and the sun feels so good! Things poking up their heads, crocus blooming, jonquils everywhere, made a salad with my kale and chard for supper last night because I am going to soon have to start the garden over with fresh spring things and I know the chickens will love them. Congratulations on the newest baby! 💞💕👶🥂
I’m in NC too. We keep our kale from August to August. Just cutting it back and letting it come out fresh, helps feed the chickens and ducks. Or we can let them out and they’ll cut it themselves.
So sorry to hear that your sweet child was attacked by the over protective goose, hope he is feeling better, and all the nice signs of spring on your homestead are lovely, 😊👍💕💕💕
Wilders face is so expressive.❤️
About to break 200k subs Art and Bri congrats and y’all are so inspiring.
Still have snow on the ground its warm up snow melting. Can't wait for green grass, flowers and gardens to plant. Love you guys. 🥰♥️💞
Spring feels like it’s here too! I’m so happy about it. A nice goose dinner seems appropriate after that.
Congratulations on the new baby! The Rhodes and your family have a lot to be thankful for. I raised 3 kids and they are different as nite and day!
Bri is so poetic. Her raving about Spring left me with a grin so big my smile muscles felt the strain. I love language well used. Art waxes poetic from time to time too.
Poetic fam'ly
Now they are in the Spring times
Hearts are filled with love.
and the chores are done :) You are glowing Bri, so beautiful you are! God bless, much love, Idaho
Beautiful day for being outside 😎
The mean Goose who was bottle feed always ended up on the Dinner table, they are truly aggressive and they get worse
The sounds of the farm make me smile!
I feel your happiness for your spring. It’s still winter here.
Congratulations on the pregnancy. 🤗🥰🌷☀️🇨🇦
I grew up with a bottle raised bull and I ended up being able to ride him. But geese on the other had are scary mean. Been chased to many times. Live your show and congratulations to all the Mommas on the homestead.
I enjoy watching Wilder... I just love everything about him!
I missed Bri around the homestead the last few months, I was worried about your family. On the outside looking at only pieces of your life, I could see something was going on, even worried it was marital problems, now knowing you’re expecting explain everything. So very happy for both of you. Congratulations!!!
Spring is amazing! Just the feeling and knowledge that everything is growing! I only have a 10.000 square feet of land, but this spring I am doing EVERYTHING in my garden. Have already startet seeds inside and I am so exited to make garden beds and raise chicken! :D Love how you guys take care of your land! Wish I could have a milk cow too! :D
If you tease a goose he will never forget it, or the person that did it, they hold grudges😂 not saying that’s what happened. That was my husband’s experience growing up with a goose they had and it was a pet goose as well so Grace is probably right. They can get really feisty
That was a great video. I love it when everyone is out together. Beautiful day!
Oh my gosh!! What a lovely family. I love it.
Sorrel - an amazingly resilient plant - so delicious in soup, salads, added to white sauce over poached eggs 😊
Ah the famous broody hen!! I mark each egg I give my broodys when I allow them to hatch in the main coop, that way I know and can remove the new eggs.. I use a sharpie as it cannot be rubbed off and is non toxic.
I sat in the sun for 20 mins or more today!I loved it.
"Don't you love that feeling?" Yes! We are getting patches of grass exposed by melting snow here in N Illinois. Love it.
So good to see ya'll as "country people"! Not better ... just different. Love ya'll!❤❤❤❤❤
Bri...your. excitement is contagious ..thank you for reminding me the joys of homesteading.. bless u all..
We had visitors today and our younger tom tried to flog someone. Our older tom is docile and loving. The younger turkey will go in the freezer as soon as the weather clears.
I love daffodils too, Bri. We have had such a mild winter here in California, my daffodils have been up and open for about 2 weeks. Unfortunately, this week turns off cold again, forecast is for 32° which for us is probably 30°. All of our fruit trees are starting to or are already in bloom. Hopefully, everything will be fine. It's a running joke with people here in the High Desert region of California that you can start plants but don't plant anything in the ground until after Mother's day because we always have a freak freeze. I lost half of my plums 2 years ago.
Sorry Art nothing against you but it's nice to see Bri being more part of the vlog, and pregnancy is making Bri very radiant, God bless you all, big "Bem Haja" from Portugal
Thank you Bri for your inspiring words about Spring. God bless your family.
Have you ever watched the video, PetGooseGeorge? Your kids might like it. A man had a goose dropped off at his house and he kept it and has made a UA-cam channel about him. He even takes him to Walmart grocery shopping for greens.
Your videos are very special! God bless you all for sharing!
I just so love baby boy, he makes my day everyday. Your farm is looking good. I bet you can't wait to plant your vegetables. Me either. Good luck and take care. Love your Channel.
Such a beautiful day on the farm.
When I was 5 years old I was attacked by the neighbors gander. It knocked me down and pounded me with its wings. My aunt had to walk me to school every day because I would hide in the shed to avoid walking by the goose pen and the gander. I hope you take care of that problem before any of the kids get seriously hurt.
It's enchanting how Wilder smiles when he talks.
That lil guy is too precious ! He has your smile and many of arts facial expressions , like when he’s serious and explaining something ! All around y’all have been blessed . My prayer is you continue to be. blessed and favored 🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽❤️
We enjoy watching you guys and Wilder is so stinking cute he just makes your heart smile. So happy for you guys having another baby. I think God's greatest blessing after salvation is the stewardship of children and you guys are doing a great job with your family raising great kids that will be great adults. Keep up the good work and God bless you all.
Wilder absolutely has Mamas Smile, so lovely! Nice to see, which plants come back after winter. Enjoy the sunshine!
Ugh, geese can be so mean! I love watchin' Bri talk/show her perennial garden. :)
Oh, Art, you are a true gentleman. Poking the 1200 pound bull to move, then saying, “sorry!” 😂 I cackled out loud! So enjoy your beautiful family.
When I was 4 to 6 years old, I was the favorite target of our Chinese gray gander. He was an absolute terror to me but behaved himself around everyone else. I completely understand how scary it is to have a goose challenge tiny humans!
Truly enjoyed the video. Spring is so good for the soul. God bless to all
We're starting to feel the joy of spring here as well! It truly is a wonderful feeling 😊🥰💜
It warms my heart and mind.
Broody hens are hilarious! Little dinosaurs. 🦖
Love seeing you all down on the homestead xx
my phone's been messed up and I'm trying to play catch-up I truly enjoy your videos you have an amazing family they all help one another which is awesome God bless Sandra loves you
First day of spring March 20 so close even for us Northern folk's. I can't wait to get out into garden and start playing outside again .
Me as well. In Maine and still freezing but warmer next week they say.
@@brendacallaway6333 I see that on the news , even if I can stand in the garden and dream it out ,roll up the tarp I will be ecstatic . I still have snow on garden but not much so I hope next week melts it down.
@@willow8094 why wait, black tarp defrost with even weak sunlight in days
Me too! We are in NH and still frozen solid. I can’t wait to get my hands in the dirt!
I feel the same about Spring Bri. It's my favorite season. We had an absolutely gorgeous day here in South Central IL and I actually got a little sunburn on my face! It felt WONDERFUL! Mid 60's here for the next few days. The robins have returned, the barn swallows are back, the buds on the trees are plumping, our grass is greening, and our animals are out romping in the pastures and the chickens were out in the garden digging in the soil for worms and bugs emerging. I just sat for a while and took it all in. :)
Bri that was said so beautifully !!!!!!!!!
We were always told as children that with geese we have to be the aggressors, to show them who’s boss. So we would be very confrontational and chase them first, and that kept them in check. They can be very scary to even adults
That garden is just amazing. As I was typing amazing you said it! We are just starting Autumn (Fall) here. Mine is a mild climate so I will be doing lots of planting in the next few days. Loved seeing your energy and the energy of your homestead too.
A beautiful day on the homestead ❣
Have a good day ❄❄❄
I love to just sit and watch my chickens. God Bless! Carmen
Thank you for sharing Spring start we are a good six weeks away. Still a foot of snow, but so so looking forward to it. So seeing it here really is wonderful. :)
Great seeing all of the return of the veggies.
I had one daffodil come up and bloom last week. It is a lovely sight. What signals spring for me is the return of the bluebirds. This year we a pair in the box, that's a first in a long time! I used to have a bed like you, but the husband has killed most of it with his weed killer. Sigh... Love watching the children, getting older I miss the little things. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
If you can. Pls show your fig in early spring and if you prune, I will be planting a cold hardy fig in my Connecticut zone 6 because of you all, and I thank you. God bless
Your young heifer is developing fast. Please be careful that the bull doesn't hurt her!
I LOVE you guys Thank you for sharing! God Bless
I thought you wouldn’t have more babies because how can you top Wilder?!? Then I realized, he would be such a spoiled little boy if he was the baby for life! This will be good for him, and everyone else in the family. So happy for you all!
But logically someone has to be the youngest! Unless you space them out so that the oldest are having kids of their own soon enough, and then the youngest has nieces/nephews to take some of the attention away from them.
Spring is in the air. Another fun day with family is so wonderful.
Yes Bri, I have been enjoying the nicer weather here in the foothills of NC. The sun has felt sooooo Great!
It must be sad for Grace that the love and care she gave didn't turn out well for the goose. Maybe the outcast goose would like to be a chicken guardian.
How exciting to see that garden already coming up! I cannot wait till it’s all up and you can show us what’s come up and how much of each. I love the idea of a wild garden too! I’m so happy for you and all your hard work has paid off!
Little Wilder is soooo sweet!
Great job with the heifer's leading lesson. Love to see it. We've even "emergency/necessarily" halter trained beefies with an inanimate objects (supervised). It's amazingly effective. Enjoy the goose! Gonna be some good eatin'. 😁
I feel like you about spring! I just praise God for it!
Yes the Spring truly awakens my soul!! I know how wonderful it is there at your place! Heaven on earth! Enjoy!😊❤🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🌷🌼🌷🌼🌷🌼🌷🌼🌷🌼🌷🌼🌷
Take it from me, “hand raised” geese or chickens can be aggressive as adults! When I was a kid I had a hand raised rooster that was so mean! 😀
@@sherimcneil3079 different with goats. All my bucks I have ever had have been bottle raised. I actually prefer to have my bucks be well raised in that manner. I can go in the pens with them to feed, i can attach a lease and they go where i need with zero complaint. I have never been butted or harmed by our bucks. If anything they are love bugs and just want to be petted and loved on.
Agreed wed get chicks and ducks for easter theyd be the ones we was terrified of once they was big. Its not fun!
I know that Spring feeling! Thanks so much for reminding me...at least another 4 weeks here, but it will come!
Another glorious day...
JO JO IN VT 💕😄☃
congratulations on your news looks like chicken ducks all want to breed. increasing the stock.guard geese protect their domain will chase away predators. we going into autumn here in south africa western cape. we put extra potting soil manure and bonemeal in the gardens. have about 16 chickens lots of quails
I found some lemon balm and lemon mint, so I am adding them with my regular mint. I am also planting lavender and chamomile. My regular flowers are marigolds, but I am adding a few others for more colors. I love my flower garden
Hey! My first or very early video of yours I watched was about that same perennial garden area last year. Next spring, as the Lord wills, I'll be growing veggies since I'll be renting in one of my family members home. My feet have been in such terrible pain the last two years I was only able to instruct flower gardening at my friends house, but the Lord has brought my feet more than half way over the last 9months using a different doctors technique for plantar fasciitis. Yaaa! You sure do sound as uplifted, as you described while rooting around in the garden 😊. Thank you
Laural
Sooooo beautiful!!!!!
Ok Bree so Meg got a baby and a pinterest pig house Rebeca got a baby and a pretty shaw So what is Art going to build you when you have this baby lol
Wilder has gotten so big and his vocabulary has gotten even bigger!
Hen is broody, geese are about to get broody .they will be bit grumpy its natural. Let em have their space .
Enjoy spring days.
And little 'W' congrats you gonna be big brother!!! yeyy!!
oh wilder! it breaks my heart to see him so sad and upset.💔😟
I once had a baby chick in the city( Memphis,TN- the 60s) .It became a rooster that chased us across the street and he soon ended up on the table. Good memories for a city girl though 😊
Wow Bri, I don’t know how you keep up with all those plants. That is amazing how you do that. Thanks for another video. God loves you and your family. God bless you all.
Geese can be very aggressive during the breeding season. The calf looks almost big enough to start coming into heat. Have to watch for that.
I can’t wait for winter. We’re going into Autumn in South Africa
Male geese are super aggressive in the spring because it’s mating season. It will pass 😉
He is doing what he is supposed to do. And yes it is spring time. Keep the goose and manage the situation, train him that your child is off limits.
The goose is being a goose. Children and animals need supervision and monitoring.
@@flyingflowersfarm5784 Yes, well said. I 100% agree with you.
I'm a breeder of dogs. My family has raised and trained Airedales since 1978. For the most part, our puppies are never placed in a home with a child under the age of 5. The only exception to this rule is that the new home/people have Airedale experience, living with and knowing the breed (and have also raised a child past the age of 5 years). Airedales are a handful of a breed (in general).
They are wonderful with kids, but that does not mean that you leave the child or the kid unsupervised. They both need to learn the "rules". So, I love your comment. You are absolutely correct.
