No, we don't eat it every day. but often yes. But I cringe when I see ppl eating burek without yogurt, because eating yogurt and burek (at same time) gives a burek a unique taste.
Pored toga sto si naveo, meni jogurt služi da isperem masnoću, da mi eventualno spusti pritisak i da pogura burek da može i drugi trougao da stane u stomak. :) Bože, kako mi nedostaje da omastim papke burekom! ❤️
Greetings to Ivana and Smith from Mirjana from Belgrade. When you come to Belgrade again, I promise to make you a Miraculous Burger again. Čudesna pljeskavica.
What will also change your burek opinion is: first shake the yogurt thoroughly, take one bite of cheese-burek and immediately a sip of yogurt, together they mix in perfect flavor, this is a must, I don't even eat cheese-burek without yogurt, you can also combine it with meat-burek, but for me it's better with cheese, Bon Appetit! :)
Round one, (like pizza cut slices) is Burek. Full circle is about 1kg. So a 1/4 is typical piece of 200-250gr. One miners (or hardworkers) breakfast. Spiral iz NOT Burek, it's a pie. Taste may be similar, but it's a pie. They put in everything nowdays, Nutella, or whatever stupid kids say, but Burek ,in Serbia, is with cheese or meat, both baked in (pig) fat - not oil. The end! Yoghurt is a must with it! Shake it first. Every bite of Burek must be with a sip of yoghurt! Excellent video, great fun to watch! ♡
People in Serbia eat burek probably once or twice in a month but I ate it every morning for 15 years. Don't care if I die of a heart attack. It's worth it.
Came across your videos by accident and had to watch the burek one. It was hilarious to see my Anton review in your video. I love Anton and spend all my days thinking about going back there. I go to Serbia every year and already went this year - your video makes me want to get back on a plane today. Thanks for allowing me to live vicariously through you two and I’m glad you managed to get the cheese burek in the follow-up clip at the end - it’s the best one!
I am very glad to see how much you enjoy the wonderful food in Nis 💛😊👑😍💖. Definitely the best burek in the country is in Nis, in the bakery Anton 👑👑👑💓💓💓👌👌👌💘💘💘 🇷🇸 🇷🇸 🇷🇸
Quality home-made pork fat is put in the burek, not oil, which is an unhealthy substitute. These rules are followed by bakers like Anton and do not violate them. So it is much healthier than you think 😊😍💖 By the way, the period when burek is mostly eaten and when Serbs eat it the most is in the morning for breakfast 😊😊😊
Burek is like a cross between stuffed roti canai and stuffed pizza and baklava soaked in oil. Definitely a guilty pleasure. See you guys in Brazil soon.
You missed the real Anton, it is in a different place and actually, burek is made by the owner there so it is better. And actually, burek is that what you call pie, and our pie is the other thing, it is not burek. :) another reason to come back to Nis.
Yummy burek 😋😋😋 Safe and pleasant flight, Steve lvana. Happy exploring Brazil. Looking forward to your Brazil COOOOOL series. Stay safe and take good care. Omicron variant is around.
It's awesome to see someone giving propper praise for the food in Niš and Serbia in general.. As for burek.. The spiral one is different because it is a wrapped pie.. And oil should be pig fat and jogurt, it goes with burek, no matter what type, that's final :D If I knew you were still there I would have taken you some place last weekend as I was there too. Alas... Have fun :) PS that's Anton 2, I'm not sure if burek is the same as in the first place
We don't have palm oil in Serbia, burek is made either with sunflower oil (we call it "zejtin") or with pure pig fat :))))))) And that looks to me very piggy :)
You guys acually missed the right Anton, its near the local hospital, near Delta shopping center. This one you bought in Central street is nothing special acually
Hi Folks, thanks for promoting Serbia. To you question on the different shapes an different : The dough for the cheese has to be stronger because of the humidity of the cheese. If you would take the same fine (filu dough) it would be completely ether soggy (if you take to early out of the oven) or to dry which is not the case with the meat burek. Since you have to use a "stronger" dough you have to roll it and then put it into shape like a snail. In difference to the filu dough, where you put one slice over the other. Hoe this helps. Cheers and enjoy
I am a Serb who unfortunately does not live in Serbia itself. Particularly regarding the food . But the First and last thing I do when I go on holiday in Serbia. As soon as I arrive or just before I leave. Is Eating a lot of Serbian burek . Especially the meat version. It can vary quite a bit by region.. In some cases it is pure beef mince. In other cases it is mixed minced meat . 50% minced beef 50% minced pork. Somehow I like the one with mixed minced meat much better.. And often I go to the same bakery / eatery. Here in the country where I live I can eat that too. But then it is more often Turkish toko's. And often only beef versions. Since Turks don't eat pork as far as I know. They are smaller portions and much more expensive in proportion.
Palm oil, no way! We use pigfat as oil for our heavy meals called “mast” the best one is from “mangulica” pig and you can buy it in a bucket. Try it out if you want to cook by yourself
First one that is rolled is with green paprika in Greek yogurt left to ferment for several months and becomes like cream cheese. Second is called pizza burek it is salami and ketchup and oregano with melting cheese. The rest you got right. it is not oil that is pork lard and a lot of it that is giving flakiness. Try also mushrooms it is great.
The only thing your doing wrong is that you need to take a bite of the Burek then 2 chees then a sip of Yogurt to mix in the true taste of Serbian Burek .And they dont use much oil in Serbia it's mainly pork lard and thats 1 of the reasons the food tastes so good .Believe it or not Lard is healthier !If you cook a steak in oil you'll see theres just about no oil left in the pan , but if you cook a steak with Lard when you take the steak out most of the lard is still in the pan .Hence how many fat people do you see in Serbia?
I really don't know what to say about Serbian people being not so fat as Americans (for instance). It is so odd, we like eating bread and we eat it for any meal. I have it even with spaghetti. I'd have even with pizza, but there is bread included in it. : ) I don't know what to say. Maybe because our people prefer beer to coke, I think American people have a lot of sugar products and there is a lot of sugar in all products. I really don't know how people in America get 300 pounds so easily. I am now overweight, but when I was 20, 30, 40, I couldn't imagine being fat. Maybe you have a lot of GMOs, and your Mcdonald's offers some totally 'dead' food, everything is frozen and full of fat, while our products are more natural. And, I must say, we all have cooked meals in our homes every day, we eat pastry or pljeskavica for dinner or breakfast, but our main meal is cooked. For instance, I had homemade sarma today.
Hi, I don't know what kind of oil did they use for burek, but in Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia we use mostly the sunflower oil, and going to south, the olive oil. Palm oil is recently introduced in the diet.
P.s. 1) Its natural oil (not animal) and the reason is that the oil makes it soft but still crunchy!. 2) Jogurt is just used with meat burek ;-) "Tougher means together and not after each other. Put the burek and the jogurt at the same time into the mouth. Then you will have just a soft flavour from the onions ;-)

Thing about serbian food is the good, quality, fresh ingredients and we dont put sugar in everything. Also Serbians walk a lot with a combination of public transportation and a lot of people do sports recreationally, thats why most people are slim even with all this heavy food.
Nice to see you enjoy the food and have fun. I envy you a bit (a lot). Re "slim people" in Serbia... It's true, obesity is very rare. And everyone eats like a Gargantua, all the time. And burek eaten quite often, plus did you notice how much bread Serbs eat? Suggestion for a maybe useful experiment - while you're there in Nis, just go to the small farmers market, pick couple of slim green peppers, couple of tomatoes, some "young onions", small cucumber, slice of white cheese (not young or soft) - [make sure you buy from booths run by an old Serbian granny] - go home and and make a salad - just chop it all up (don't make a mush), touch of apple vinegar, touch of oil, sprinkle of black peper, ... step aside and smell the aroma. Make it a meal with a slice of fresh bread (still warm baguette), a bit of butter or kaymak spread (from the market) and a balsamic/olive oil dip... step aside, and just smell it... You'll get the idea (about "how" and "why"), i think.
I think its also time for somebody to advise them to try a real serbian breakfast - fresh bread, homemade bacon, "cvarci", old white cheese, kajmak, spring onions and green chili pepper. One of my favorites to go with. So guys, try it out! Cheers!
Pekara Anton is at two locations in Nis, and it is owned by two brothers. The cheese burek and the cheese + spinach burek( not the cheese roll) are the best ones. Jogurt is not a must with those. Serbian cuisine is definitely in the top 5 in Europe for me, really enjoyed it. I even got some recipes to try it back home in Ankara.

Jogurt help in digesting the grease. The oil is sunflower oil, that’s why it feels lighter then you would expect.

They are supposed to “umaču” (dip) burek into yoghurt. ❤️
One bite of burek, one sip of yogurt and chew together
Best
I beg to differ, swallow the tasty, hot burek and in between bites, freshen up with a sip of cold yogurt.
it's not healthy to drink while eating

Re "slim people" in Serbia... It's true, obesity is very rare. And everyone eats like a Gargantua, all the time. And burek eaten quite often, plus did you notice how much bread Serbs eat?
