this performance was a live recording a few years back at their mystique concert tour, but the first time they performed it was on a weekly musical variety show called immortal songs 2. it's a show on which they still perform frequently (their most recent being despacito in july). it's their covers on this show going viral which propelled them to notoriety outside of korea. the premise is that artists come on and perform the "immortal songs" of past artists or perform songs within a specific theme or genre. it all started with their performance of bohemian rhapsody in 2019. it was their first cover to go viral. the group formed in 2017 on a musical competition show called phantom singer. they were the second season winners and they debuted in march 2018. they've been around awhile, but until the past couple of years were really only well known in korea. since they are a classical crossover quartet and not a kpop group they are what is considered a "niche" genre. they are in there with andrea bocelli, josh groban, lara fabian, celtic woman etc. they have original music of their own, but sadly it doesn't achieve the popularity of their covers. it's their ability to "cross over" that makes them brilliant i suppose. the starter kit i posted for you on your despacito reaction has 5 original songs right at the top. I've been a fan of Queen since BEFORE they were famous. THIS is what Freddie had in his minds eye. Freddie loved Opera. This is the best cover of it. And, I'm going to say it... when Cho Mingyu sang "Mama just shot a man".. THAT got me more than even Freddie. 😳 Even Queen never sang the middle section live. They are absolutely incredible and their voices is just Amazing. There is a reason why they are called the kings of harmony. I would really recommend you to watch We Are The Champions, Shape Of You, Sound Of Silence and their original songs called White Night and Save Our Lives. UA-cam channel "The Forestella" has 42 clips of the show showing their progression. Each 3-5 minutes. Mingyu (light tenor) knew about Woorim (bass) from college. They are classically trained. Mingyu saved Woorim by choosing him for a duet in Phantom Singer 2. (the 2 means season 2) Doohoon (baritone) was/is musical theater. He is teaching them how to perform on stage. Hyungho (counter tenor - highest voice) was a chemical engineer. Phantom Singer 2 was his last ditch effort to become a professional singer. Forestella first sang their version of Bohemian Rhapsody in the KBS Immortal Songs which is a kind of remake competition music entertainment show. It made them known to the world, and later they put it in their 2nd album titled Mystique. They had concert tour under the title Mystique. This video was filmed at the Mystique encore concert, the last of the tour. I prefer their Immortal Songs video because it shows their acting in the performance better. Here it's too dark to see it well.. I recommend Forestella Queen's best songs compilation video on KBS Jeonju channel. There are 2 more Queen renditions in addition to the very first performed Bohemian Rhapsody by Forestella. 3 of them sang The Show Must Go On as their bass enlisted for his national duty. But don't worry too much! Your favorite bass will come back in May 2025. Forestella is a group of workaholic geniuses, you have tons of videos to watch!
