Andy Williams was a handsome, talented, classy singer. He was also a gentleman and a great host. RIP.Dame Shirley Bassey was perhaps the greatest female singer that Wales ever produced and still going strong at over 80!
No one can sing this song as good as Shirley. Artists today just cannot compare. And this is coming from a 14 year old boy. Kids don’t know what they are missing.
As a child I thought Shirley was the most beautiful woman in the world with a voice that made you sit up and pay attention. This performance was like foreplay. Whew!
Talent's this!!!! I'm Amazed. Really 1960s and 70s were a golden era in English music. We had Elvis Priestly, Shirley Bassey, Andy Williams, Bing Crosby and lots more. This performance is just a testimony for that great age of music.
🗿 By the way, folks: These two monumental talents shared ANOTHER quality that's not so "in demand" nowadays in Show Business...they used to call it: CLASS❗✔
Very true and so nostalgic for me.. Days of respectability and honour of other people who watch them, no grandiose egos just pure talent given, no airs and graces about themselves at all.. Loved The Andy Williams show I was just a kid watching with my parents was a lovely time of my life.. 🙂
There is exactly ONE-and only one-artist whose singing and performances still give me goosebumps. It’s Dame Shirley. There are many talented singers (past and present) that I enjoy very much, but for me she’s on a level all her own, and no one else comes close.
Amongst Shirley Bassey's qualities is her near perfect pitch at all note levels. As you said, there are some great vocalists that have blessed this earth over the last 100+ years, but it takes people like these two with great tone and pitch quality that results in very, very long careers. Many can claim a ton of hits on the radio, but then you buy their albums, and the rest of the songs are, well, not very good. I love Petula Clark's wonderful hits, but even she admits it was difficult for her to sing many songs. Although Shirley and Andy Williams have many hits, it is their albums that represent the bulk of their sales, because of their natural ability with vocal tone, and vocal fluidity, no matter the song
I was thinking exactly that but then I thought about Lady Gaga singing live jazz with Tony Bennett in the last 4 or 5 years which was pretty damn fine...But that said, Shirley and Andy reach a level of live performance I haven't seen replicated for yonks. Pretty damn fine, too...
Bassey is as always effortlessly flawless. I could listen to her songs all day. I love these old romantic singers and their songs. The lyrics and the music back then were pure excellence. And Andy Williams...love his sooth, laid back style.
I was looking up Andy Williams songs and I never knew much about Shirley Bassey. But now being older and listening with new ears I have found a treasure. She is amazing in every way. She connects with her audience and her voice is amazing she evokes passion and you can tell she loves singing. I'm enjoying learning about her.
If you take the Judy Garland, Live at Carnegie Hall (1962) and Dame Shirley Bassey Proms concert 2009 (on youtube) - these are the gold standards every artist should try to eliminate their LIVE performances, no lip singing, no special mic's. These Lady's had the audience eating out of their hands before the first note was sung. Thank god the British recorded so many shows of Dame Shirley Bassey for everyone to enjoy for decades. For Garland- buy the 2 dick CD that includes her chats with the audience. Yes, she sings "A Foggy Day in London Town.
Watching this again and it is just such a lost art, the ability to sing live, unabashedly and confident that you are master of your craft and need no machinery to embelish, alter, or enhance your God given talent. This, as a recording live, is better than most studio recordings, even given the date and quality of this post! Bravo to the Dame and Andy, may he rest in peace.
This music is excellent, but what they did was pre record the audio and lip sync on television. That was very common in that era to much of the performers’ dismay.
@@wearethelimits Yes, that was done in those years, but seemed live to me. I will watch again and see if I can catch any missteps and if it really was lip singing, as I know Ms Bassey doesn't like to do that.
@@TerryComo2010 hey Terry, I just got that feel from watching their throat movement. All respect to them! Of course they did this one way or the other, that’d be great if it’s live- just the recording quality itself seems very, very good if it is indeed live. as a singer myself who had his time in the “industry” playing shows, touring, recording, etc- that’d be my conclusion. : ) cheers
@@wearethelimits Got to see it again and I am convincd it was live. If you watch Dame Basey's neck and see the movements she makes, they match the vocals, and with Andy the same. His neck muscles move in and out and, though barely, you can see his adam's apple move while the video to me seems to match each note sung. But as always IMHO. Suffice it to we can agree they are masters at their craft!
When I was 13, I went to the theater with my nephew/best friend, also 13. We saw Goldfinger. This was the first time I heard Shirley Bassey. Nine years later I bought my first Shirley Bassey album and fell in love. I kept her around a lone time. We go back 58 years! She's a few years older than me but she has a better body, and oh what a voice!
Saw the amazing miss Bassey in Belfast with my mum.my late aunt loved her too.it was the waterfront.she made it a dream come true.thankyou Miss Bassey xxx
A magnificent performance by two very great singers at the top of their game. In Shirley's case, she's still doing it and if I had to choose a live stage performance of any female singer as my desert island pick, this would be it. I loved listening to her English diction when she has a lovely banter with Andy. Pure RP. Music to my ears...mind you, she's quite capable of switching to Cardiff-speak at the drop of a hat, bless her.
My Daughter love Shirley a person born wayyy after this women song diamonds are forever in public bathroom and a women stood out side listening to her memories of the song she was thankful for hearing that song again.
Sasha Velour does a swell interpretation of this song. Thank you Dame Shirley Bassey and the algorithms that brought you to my life. Peace and all be well.

Do those who would like a little more in the discripbox:) English language cover of the Italian song "Uno Dei Tanti" (English: "One of Many"), with music by Carlo Donida and lyrics by Giulio "Mogol" Rapetti.[] In its initial release, "Uno Dei Tanti" was released by Joe Sentieri in 1961. The English lyrics for "I (Who Have Nothing)" were written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, who also produced the first English language release, performed by Ben E. King in 1963. Shirley Bassey released the song (produced by George Martin) in September 1963, where it reached #6 on UK charts.
Shirley é simplesmente maravilhosa, espetacular... e o Andy Williams, também incrível, monumental... ele foi injustamente um dos cantores mais subestimado e menos apreciado de seu tempo.
They put these amazing shows together in 5 days - solos, duets, medleys, key changes, harmony parts switching, each doing their own songs and their partners'. Sounds great!
Shirley had a hit with this song back in 1963. It was released only a few months in the UK after Ben E King released his single in the USA. Tom also had a hit released in 1970. Depending upon your age, you might remember only Tom's version. But, I've uploaded a clip of Shirley's single if you would like to hear it. And, there were others who also hit with this song. It's a classic, and written for the generations.
Eu nunca ouvi e vi uma cantora tão completa , como Shirley B. para min , o cantor mais perfeito é Elvis Presley , e a cantora Shirley Bassey divina . Carlos R.
Probably the best voice in the history of female vocalists...
I agree. Dame Shirley Bassey is in a class of her own. Doris Day in my opinion is a close 2nd.
Absolutely.
Andy Williams was a handsome, talented, classy singer. He was also a gentleman and a great host. RIP.Dame Shirley Bassey was perhaps the greatest female singer that Wales ever produced and still going strong at over 80!

Greatest female singer that ever walked this earth. Thanks for the post!!! I live 60’s stuff. And Shirley 💋
Gorgeous brunette lady but especially a good singer
My God, what a superb voice. Totally breath taking.

When singers had talent. Not one single singer today can touch them!
Also praise goes for their composers and song producers

Eamon is one of the great singers of recent times but 98% of today's can NOT touch these classic singers

In general I agree Terry, but there are exceptions: Haley Reinhart and Morgan James come to mind as standouts from modern day.

But, believe me, dear, when I say
That she can give you the world, but she'll never love you the way

You can take her any place she wants
To fancy clubs and restaurants
But I can only watch you with
My nose pressed up against the window pane
I, I who have nothing

Must watch you go dancing by
Wrapped in the arms of somebody else when, darling, it's I
Who loves you
I love you
I love you
