Funny fact. Ixion killed his father in law by pushing him into a bed of burning coals and wood. Zeus took pity on Ixion and invited him to Olympus where Ixion lusted after Hera. Zeus created a cloud of Hera to trick Ixion and Ixion had slept with the fake Hera, creating the race of Centaurs. Zeus punished Ixion by binding him to a winged fiery wheel that was always turning. Is this why the game is called IXION? The ship is like a fiery spinning wheel.

@10:53 The centrifugal force once the habitat is up to full spin speed will mean 'gravity' would appear to be outward only*. The only time you'd have force acting sideways as you described would be if the habitat needed to boost (or I guess reduce) it's spin speed. Then there would be acceleration/deceleration G's, though the effect would be negligible due to the mass of the habitat and the power that would be required to accelerate/decelerate it at any kind of noticeable rate. Such a force would be induced at a very slow rate. Partly due to the power requirements mentioned earlier but also because the habitat wouldn't be built to withstand high G loads in that particular direction because it would never be necessary.
*Think of being in a car, when you accelerate hard, you are pushed back in to the seat. That is the force you described. When you are up to speed, you don't feel any G's, until you need to turn. Then the G's are sideways - or outward. That is what would be felt in the habitat. To feel constant acceleration in a habitat it would have to constantly be increasing it's spin speed (or decrease if you don't mind the ceilings becoming the floor and vice-versa). Also bear in mind there would still be the outward G's which would increase as the spin speed increased... It's just not a very friendly environment if you're trying to change the spin speed of the habitat :)

You will have sideways force in a rotational habitat every time you move or merely move a body part, due to the coriolis effect. The bigger the radius, the less it is, though. That is actually a strong point against rotational gravity for us in our current state of space travel. It not only messes with your sense of motion (circulating liquid in the equilibrium organ during and shortly after head turns) but also with every movement you do and it's going into different relative directions, based on how you are oriented, which would make it super annoying, most probably even interfering with simple tasks.

The shuttle that delivers you to the station is named 'Charon?' Yep, you're boned.
The game very much reminds me of Starbase Startopia, but I can see how it can go Frostpunk eventually. The video at the end reminded me very much of Deus Ex: Human Revolution in its tone, which gave me (good) chills. I look forward to (hopefully) morally dubious technologies and systems in the greater game, though I'd love it if the tone shifted with your decisions too, becoming more dystopian or utopian, cyberpunk or solarpunk, etc. Though I know with a game this far along that's not going to happen.

Someone made an error when they originally calculated the food's nutritional contents and moved a decimal one space too far; turns out that while still good for you the nutritional content was pretty normal in the levels of nutrition it provides. The marketing was already too good to pass up though so they've been running with it since.

Are you sure it was not intentional? I mean, I've watched certain movies (the recent Godzilla movies come to mind) and played certain games and read certain comics where there's an eco-terrarist group so insane that they're trying to either wipe out humanity or at least destroy civilization so as to "save the world" from the "horrible humans who are killing it". And that speech from the guy who invented this hyperdrive strongly suggests that he thinks humans are killing the planet. Just saying...

"A ring on a space station" is called a Von Braun wheel. It's basically a more manageable design that we could realistically start building with today's technology, while an O'Neill Cylinder is a "further down the line" vision of permanent space habitats that could house millions of people.

Fun fact. While your instinct is common, the way forces work on a spinning object are a bit weird, but you can understand it pretty quickly if you look into the physics. Basically objects moving in a circle would fly away from the center if allowed to, but the exterior wall is getting in your way, so you end up pinned to the exterior wall. If you’ve ever visited a faire with a graviton, it’s a bit like that, pinned to the exterior wall, but the larger the structure is the less sickening/disorienting it is to be on.

Vanir Dolos damn we knew that Earth was already dying, that the technology and the path to distant worlds was already in motion, but in his ego, his desire to be seen as a grand hero knew that he needed one small accident to make sure Earth's death throes where set in motion in such a way that he could be seen as a hero in this new world he plans to set up.

funny cuz it's exactly what's been happening for years, and getting much worse now that the 1%er ego-lords are playing in space! Space junk is a very real and growing serious problem.

THAT INTRO IS SO EPIC holy crap
but man, maybe it's a youtube/recording thing but the sound of that rocket launch was entirely underwhelming
ever watched video of real rocket launches? every been to one? that sound should have shook me but instead i just hear the synth melody

This reminds me of the old Startopia, but in a much more serious tone and with harder sci-fi elements. That one got a remake recently but it bombed hard because apparently it was just a paintjob, but this one looks awesome, I hope they don't drop the ball.

I did NOT see that ending coming....I was already intrigued by the game and all the mythological references. The cultish demeanor of the CEO kinda drew me in for the "Wayland-Yutani" feel he oozed.... and finally seeing the "oops" literally made me gasp. Can't wait to play this now...

Too many names: Dolos, Vanir, Edden, Vohle, Tiqqun, Munchi, Klain, Marduk... Do I need to remember all of those for the plot?
    The end is amazing.

  • @jled787
    @jled787 3 роки тому +4

Yeah, been looking forward to the game since last year's E3 where they put out the trailer (the whole Cutscene by Dolos)
I had assumed that something went wrong with the engines and the station blew up the moon and itself, and from the context of the prologue, it seems like the station is safe but you did indeed blew up the moon, thereby accelerating the plans for humanity's survival.
I think the plan was, as stated by the tutorial, a series of jumps back and forth to Proxima Centauri using gradually increasing crew sizes and passengers like pioneers to establish a foothold in the new planet by building resource structures in space for material gathering to build a starting city on the surface.
The only thing I see that I don't like is that the game would feel like its going to be chopped up into chapters where the Ixion's jumps would indicate the end and start of the next one. Hopefully I'm wrong on this as that would mean that the game is a strict railroad and is basically a campaign/storymode experience. Though I do want a campaign mode, I also want an open sandbox experience.

No music in the space part is a mistake.
If it's for immersion because there's no sound in space, that doesn't really work because the administrator isn't in the vacuum of space. What this game could really use is a radio system like Surviving Mars.
