Doesn't stainless steel leeche chromium and nickel? If it says 18/10 stainless steel ,18 means 18% chromium and 10 means 10% nickel. Nickel is to keep the steel from rusting!
Your photo showed a steel spoon inside the crockpot. Metal utensils are NOT good for ceramic or clay crock pot liners as they scratch the surface. You want to keep the shiny surface of the interior of the crockpot intact. Use wooden spoons and/or non-scratching utensils. Be careful of any scrubbers you may use when cleaning the crockpot: again, if you handle it roughly the surface can get scratched...and you don't want that.
great video! by the way, i soak my beans for a minimum of two days, but upwards of 3, changing water twice a day. I have thyroid issues but prepping beans this hasn't bothered me...
I've always soaked beans before cooking in the crockpot....and sometimes it does take a couple of days before they get slightly soft and ready to cook. Never had them "sprout" though.
@@ytytyyu The only difference is if you're cooking at a very low heat, you have to be aware of it and watch it. With a slow cooker, you can drive to the store if you need to and not worry about it.
I use the plastic liners, that you can purchase from the store, for the Crock-Pot when cooking. It's supposed to make for easy clean up afterwards. Can you tell me if there are any health risks involved with using these disposable plastic liners? Thanks in advance.

EXACTLY my question! Why not recommended some stainless inserts via the ceramic ones? I immediately did a search. All I can find are stainless exterior crockpots or those with an aluminum insert. I don't drink or eat ANYTHING that is in or made in aluminum. Parkinson's and Dementia are IN my genes. I don't want to add to it. I felt like they criticizied something without giving an alternative. Don't be just an infomercial!!
They knew more than we'll ever know. But, if you must be away from home...a cast iron dutch oven is not the thing you want to leave on a woodburning stove or in an oven when you are away. Great point. I WISH I was as lucky as you to be able to do that. I have one. But, I would never leave my home with that cooking away. Sorry.
Great video! Thanks! I think it would be extremely valuable to not forgot to mention the toxicity of non-stick coatings like teflon as well. Thanks for the recipes, I can't wait to try out the pumpkin butter!
Lynn C haha... yeah. Clay is going to contain the byproducts of the environment it's cleaning or filtering out. Most things are made from materials found in toxic places, i.e. China etc. And those toxins, natural and unnatural, leech into foods when cooking.
I think you've just put a lot of people off using a slow cooker with your scaremongering. The shouting voice doesn't help either. Did you miss out on a career in the Army?
Who the F cook any dried legumes without soaking them first. Where I'm from all legumes, Grams/pulses ( lentils, chikpeas etc) YOU ALWAYS SOAK THEM FIRST... 4-12 hours as your convenient.
I have 5 slow cookers. Use it all the time. I'm not sure about the LED in the ceramic. That kind of concerns me.

Where is link for the non toxic crockpot you listed ? Went to the link and it’s not there.
What Crock Pot or Slow cooker would you recommend?

You're a blond with the mind👏
Please, a video on how to soak and spout legumes, nuts, seeds and grains
Do you soak beans and seeds overnight first?

Why do beans effect the thyroid?

Wish crockpot do you recommend
So then you have us go on a hunt for a clay or stainless steel crockpot, WTF, why not just give us a range of suggestions. So not helpful.
So disappointed in your disrespectful comment!!!
Also nothing said about the power consumption.
i've only managed to find ONE stainless inner pot slow cooker. at $360 it's a bit more than i wanted to spend.
If you live in north america you can buy vitaclay. Unfortunately no such options for us in Europe.
@@Bashir000 im in the uk and cant find a stainless steel slow cooker any were
I just bought a regular 8 quart slow cooker at the thrift store for $15 (less my 10% seniors discount). Something for every budget.
@@Bashir000 wasn't interested in anything but stainless.
Made pumpkin pie in glass cups without crust and it turned out great!
So what slow cooker brands do you recommend
Hi dr Axe what kind of crock pot do you recommend or what kind do you use?
You can cook with kefir? Wouldn't that kill the good bacteria? Btw, I love your personality just the way it is. Laughter is good for the sole
What slow cooker you recommend??
It's better to get a pressure cooker :)
Don't get a pressure cooker. They can explode.
Thanks guys I'm suffering from Lyme and your methods have made me feel much better.
youre not suffering from lyme..
neat upload Dr. Josh Axe. I killed the thumbs up on your video. Maintain up the wonderful work.
Can you tell me which one to buy please
Slow cooking IS fast. With pre-planning you are able to do other things while you cook.
What is the difference bw slow cooker and cooking in a very low heat? I think it is the same right?
@@ytytyyu The only difference is if you're cooking at a very low heat, you have to be aware of it and watch it. With a slow cooker, you can drive to the store if you need to and not worry about it.
Darn it that my 2 gallon white pot is really really worn to a black center!
Good topic, so many tech today but wonder which is really beneficial.
Thank you for your information. I'm considering what kind of slow cooker is good.

plastic+heat=dangerous combination..it can leach into food
Healthy Taste Of Life - I wondered about that, since BPA in cans are dangerous. I'm surprised FDA, etc. Would allow these on the market?
I guess they don't care
Lonnie Cox a good general rule is to not put any food especially hot in any type of plastic. Buy Pyrex or glass containers to put your leftovers in.

Dr rubin seems like such an angel
Very good information, thank you so much for taking the time to do this :)
That's why I use pressure cooker :) Faster and healthier alternative to slow cooker!
no no the pressure cooker is not as good for tenderizing meat and basically superboils food which can reduce nutrient levels
thanks for the replies...! never thought about a plastic liner!
Dr Rubin, what type of slow cooker do you suggest? Thanks!

I love crock potting! But you offered information i didn't know, Thanks:))
I love my crockpot, cant cook, cant go wrong with it
exactly. No need for recipes just chop and toss in.

Suposidly it's only the old teflon that is toxic. Not sure if I believe that..
Great info! Thanks Jordan
Concision is virtue
I’m just gonna start cooking on leaves that might seed some fiber 😂😢😅
This guy is always wrong about something or other... Clay is far more of a hazard than ceramic. Lead is naturally occurring in soil and clay.

Good point, ceramic glaze is very hard so how does it leach out lead? is lead used in the glaze? perhaps he means if the pot is scratched.
but most people using slow cookers reheat their meals in the microwave ;-)
Why would we share a video with no original content. Just stuff that's common knowledge and ads
I definitely know a bunch of crockpots 😂
2:00 Slow cookers are not 'pressure' cookers. Dummy. They are the opposite of 'pressure' cooking.
