He’s right: fear of flying is not (only) related to heights, but also lack of control and claustrophobia. The feeling that you can’t escape or move for hours and/or people laughing at you, thinking you’re going crazy plays a huge part in panic attacks. I’ve suffered from FoF all my adult life but it never escalates to panic. My advice? First and foremost: acknowledge your anxiety. Admit it as part of yourself, don’t think of it as foreigner or the enemy. Then use distractions. I listen to music or watch a movie on my phone. Read a magazine, talk to people next to you or the hostesses (don’t be ashamed of confessing you’re scared). Finally, always keep in mind that it’s just FEAR, not mental illness. And that fear is going to vanish as the flight goes on. If you endure the first minutes, you made it. Good luck my friend.
The fear does not vanish... you just dont have another option but to b in that flight. I have been in a 9 hours flight, crying, totally panicking and getting crazy, I couldnt do anything to calm in any minute. Fear just vanished when the plane landed.
Yeh well said I play chess on phone to activate my higher cortex whilst listening to noise cancelling headphones ply classical music or play my Nintendo DS
Me too.. But I'm traveling in Arab countries and I couldn't find him and I'm even more afraid because 1 I have a phobia 2 I'm afraid of isis attacks.. 3 don't tell me cuz.... I know I'm weird
I fly for business reasons and have been on over 300 flights. I still tend to get a little nervous but I can distract myself. Here are a couple ways I decrease my anxiety. I hope this helps. : ) - We are all more likely to die in a car accident than a plane accident. Yet, I do not get nervous about driving my car. So, I tell myself not to worry, the plane is safer. - I buy a magazine or a newspaper I want to read at the airport. I do not routinely purchase these reading items so it is a treat for me. I start reading and my anxiety decreases. - I like to watch movies so if in flight movies are offered, after I sit down I start scanning movies. When I find one I like, I start watching as soon as possible. I get so engrossed, I forget I am flying. - As soon as drinks are being served I usually calm down a lot. I figure the pilot would not allow drink service if there were any concerns. - Sometimes I listen to music, and this can calm me down, - If you are a talkative person, sometimes talking to your neighbor on a flight helps. When I am nervous, talking to my neighbor does not always help me but I know some people say it makes a difference. - Crossword puzzles. I carry a couple of crossword puzzle I cut out of the newspapers. I find trying to solve a puzzle helps me. - I remind myself the wings moving is not a concern, the wings are designed to move. - We humans do not not move up and down in vertical space much. So, the vertical sensation that occurs in turbulence is 'uncomfortable' but it does not mean anything concerning is happening. - Each time I finish a flight and walk off, I tell myself I accomplished the flight and I am proud. I sorta laugh at myself for making a big deal of the flight. And replay the scary moments- realizing they were not that scary. I was just working myself up. - I know people who will not buy their favorite candy for 3 weeks before the flight. Then, while in the terminal, they buy their favorite candy bar. Then on the flight they get to eat it. They reward themselves for staying brave and finally having their favorite candy is a big treat!
I think most will agree with me that one of the worst bits is when the plane is levelling and it feels like your dropping, and does anyone else get that feeling like your on a roller coaster and it’s slowly going up and up and it feels like you should drop but you don’t ( in short it’s just unnerving )
Hawkerben 115 OH MY GOD EXACTLY! i feel this everytime and that's why i hate take offs and landings so muchhh! it feels like your going down or being in a one place in air but you are going up and that's the worst feeling ever. i am always so anxious during takes off and landings because of it
My airport is SNA (Orange County, CA.). Short runway with super expensive homes right after that. To appease the residents/capitalists living there the take off is the pilots stand on the brakes, spool up the engines to max (so they say) release and you rockets down, lift off, climb at a aggressive pitch to 1,000 ft then they pull off the power very noticeably and "float" over the neighborhood til they clear it and re over the Pacific then do a normal climb. very unnerving and the pilots always tell the passengers what they are doing, what to expect and that it's "totally safe".!
I learned from Air Crash Investigation the following: 1- The show covers about 40 incidents happened during the last 50 years. 40 incidents in 50 years vs 1000s of safe daily flights made me understand how safe are airplanes. 2- I learned a lot of flying elements (flaps, navigation, ATC communication, Pilot’s trainings, etc.) that I didn’t know before which answered several questions in my mind. 3- Every incident in the show occurred due to unbelievably rare causes combined together and caused a crash. 4- Those incidents never happened again. Thanks for the noble, honorable, honest people in the aviation world. 5- Incidents does not mean fatal crash. 6- I have never been able to imagine the complexity of an airplane in terms of safety without this show. I mean literally the airplane systems “fight” to the last second before any crash can happen. For example, in the unlikely event of an engine failure the plane still flies with 1 engine. Even if all engines stopped working (almost impossible) the plane still glides safely to a nearest airport. Even if all engines stopped working and the plane has no power, the pilots still have secondary sources of power to be used in emergency events. Every single system has alternatives if any fail.
@@birdhovno incorrect. Your chances of surviving a plane crash are 90% and up. Most plane “crashes” aren’t even fatal, you just only hear about the fatal ones because it’s newsworthy and click bait.
As someone that used to have a fear of flying, here is a list of things more likely to happen than dying in a plane crash: Becoming President of the United States, dying from a meteorite strike, winning an oscar, winning an olympic gold medal, drowning in your bathtub, dating a millionaire, writing a NY times bestseller, dying in a tornado, meeting someone who speaks cherokee, living to 100, dying from a lightning strike, dying from scalding hot water, dying from food poisoning, dying from falling off a ladder (lol) and dying from falling out of your own bed (lol). Happy flying!
Here’s another good piece of advice. Flying is a regular thing, you’re just not used to it. Thousands of flights every day, just like car rides and train rides and every other form of transportation. Pilots and flight attendants are highly trained professionals. Planes may be scary but at the end of the day you will be fine.
I think the best way to overcome your air travel fear is to believe in the pilot of your plane.. and believe that he knows how to handle the situation.. all air crew members are well knowledgeable about the situation onborad so relax have your seat belt on and enjoy the ride and trust the air pilots know their job well. And also keep in mind that air turbulence are common for planes to come across. Please just follow the instructions of the cabin crew members and pilot for a safe journey... Hope this tip will help a little to at least. Do keep me posted.
Elaine C yeah but to be honest what does it gives you? the pilot and everyone in the crew have the same chances of crashing as you, they won't save you or anyone else. it's the same if you say that you trust yourself so you won't crash but you have no control over what will happen. so do not have pilot or crew in a situation that you can't escape, so they can't and it sometimes don't even depend on them for real like i'm so scared sometimes cause they literally are not some magicians or whatever, they're like me or you and have nothing to say tbh
Well much like how I feel about doctors. Tomorrow, while you are at work look at each one of your co-workers, do you believe in ALL of them...me neither. Some folks are just not wired the same or are terrible at what they have chosen to do. Guess what all industries have THOSE. Who's to say he's not your pilot or surgeon. The less I think about the people in charge of those situations the better I feel. Ever have a bad day at work...yep everyone has those from time to time where things that are not meant to be that day. If you don't look around and see those folks, your probably one of them
Nervously sitting in my seat and then a high-pitched, female voice comes over the PA system, "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking......" I'm already tugging at the lever to open the door!
I also read to set timers for every 10 minutes (if you’re on a short flight) bc then you are that much closer to landing. I tried this once and it actually helped. I have a horrible fear of flying and I’m getting ready to fly on Tuesday with all my kids. I’m trying to do what I can to calm myself so they can see me calm and not get scared as it’s their first flight. Last time I flew I almost grabbed the girls arm next to me. That’s how fearful I am, but realistically I know it’s safe. I know it’s an irrational fear. It’s just a feeling of being helpless in the air. Plus I think I’m more afraid of the feeling of anxiety than anything. I’m afraid to be afraid, if that makes sense. The anxiety itself has a hold on me and I really would like to be free of that.
Omg I do the 10 minutes thing too, and I try to use a distraction for each set of 10 minutes: read a magazine, eat a chocolate, go to the restroom, talk to someone, play a game,... it's so hard to concentrate tho, even if for ten minutes straight, even if mundane tasks
I can totally relate. Once I hold my 6 yo son he said “oh silly mamma, dont worry!” he trust technology more than me (graduated in physics and still ask my husband during the floating time , is it moving or not😂)
This might be the best solution I’ve come across. I’m flying an hour by myself as a teen in a couple weeks and I couldn’t be more nervous especially being that I already have crippling anxiety. This seems like an amazing solution
Videographer Tom it helps when you fly on a good airline. Like KLM or Luthansea. The big planes seem to handle turbulence better and then you don’t have to be r-what? Check yourself so hard.
I attended the BA Flying With Confidence course a few years ago at London Heathrow and Captain Allright took it. The course is structured so well and everyone’s fear and concerns are taken seriously. I came away with a confidence I never thought I’d have concerning flying. Every question/doubt in my mind that I had about flying prior to the course was answered and in a way I could get my head around. If you have any doubts and/or fears about flying, book yourself onto the BA Flying With Confidence course. It’s a positive step in the right direction.
I love that series. I watched it like a few hours before the flight. My parents were not happy about the fact that I was watching that before flying lol.
Michael Food and Travel Guru Just got back from vacation, four flights total. Just try to keep yourself distracted, and sleep if you can. Safe travels.
Best way is to seat back and let someone take control of the plane. Pilots know what to do and get trained for it. Just let go your fear and enjoy being on a different environment. It works 👌
you know, i think air crash investigations should be stopped, because a lot of people watch that, and it is just very bad, because there are so many episodes, it looks like it happends quitte often, and a lot of people, they develop or make a fear even worse, and that's why air crash investigations should be stopped!
Hmmm. Maybe we should stop 'The News' as well. Because shootings, stabbings, car accidents, robbery, terrorism, hurricanes and just about any other thing makes me scared as well!
I had a pilot on southwest airlines that attempted to land in chicago and the weather was horrible and we had to divert to indianapolis. He comes out of the cockpit saying he just wanted to get home to st louis. He had no business attempting that landing. I got off that plane and got a rental and drove home. It was a horrible landing and it wasnt a full flight so he clearly felt he could take risks. I wanted to knock him out for attempting to land the plane. I told him he had no business attempting that landing! Too bad if he didnt like it. It was the truth
Every time I get on a plane I start feeling anxious, even before the day of departure, but besides working on these kind of advices recently I also started focusing -while already on the plane- on how amazing aeronautics are and how wonderful and amazing machines planes really are and specially on how amazing and capable pilots are as well.
If u want my advise, the plain is in a more dangerous stage when it takes off and when it lands. When you are actually in the air, the plain is in a way more relaxing stage. And honestly, you don’t have to be scared in the landing or take offs because plains rarely get in to trouble then. Good luck my friend.
Of course you could. But if you think that about flying, why don't you think that about getting out of bed? Or walking down the stairs? Or driving a car? Or crossing the road? Or being stuck by lightening? All these things are MORE likely to happen to you than dying in a plane crash.....So why are you only scared about flying? Makes no sense.
The pilot mentions it - the issue of control and knowledge. I control how I get up from the bed or how I go down the stairs or drive a car, or how I cross the road. I control these actions and I know all the relevant variables. I am aware of how I am diminishing my chances of any of these actions resulting in death or injury to me. Additionally, I have more chances of surviving falling of the stairs or a car crash, than of surviving a plane crash. A flight has a myriad more variables the vast majority of which are beyond my control and knowledge and depend on many people I have few reasons to trust. Trusting my life to a complete stranger who might actually meet his last moments with exhilaration as he approaches the ground at almost the speed of sound is quite hard for me. As for being struck by a lighting, flights are a more frequent event in my life than lighting so no, it's not more likely for me to be stricken by it.
+Бернардо Галкер All of this sums up my intense fear of flying, but hey, we HAVE to fly. It's gotta happen unless you live in the most exciting city in the world and will never have a need to check out any other places on earth. Three things that calm me are if I die in a plane crash then that was the way it was meant for me to die, I can't die without ever having (or attempting) traveled outside my country, and knowing how tough planes are (they are designed to take a POUNDING!!) and the MANY safety mechanisms and precautions taken before you even enter the plane. Another helpful thing for me is , paying attention to the flight attendants. They fly all day everyday and know when something's gone (or is going) terribly wrong lol
Oh, that’s side. In my case I had trust issues about this industry and Air Crash Investigation was the reason I was willing to get back on a plane because the people on it prioritise safety.
It’s turbulence that’s scary, especially when it’s more than just minor bumps but sustained rocking in three dimensions. The best/worst part are the sudden drops. Yes, the actual drop is minor and this is a trick of the brain, but still feels like riding a roller coaster blindfolded. And let’s not get into flying through storms or over mountains, where it really gets choppy. No, I don’t think there’s anything you can do about that. If you’re afraid of roller coasters then you’ll be afraid of flying, and that’s that. It can’t be helped. I speak from experience as one who has tried all of these solutions, from education and positive thinking to booze and Dramamine. None of them work for me. Oh, well.
I been playing flight simulator and that really helps me understand how planes fly. My biggest fear in my mind is that during take-off we would crash into another plane. I now know that can't happen because airplanes fly pre-determined departures and approaches at an airport to keep them in a single file line plus all planes have TCAS which alerts them to nearby air traffic.
I’ve been flying all my life because my parents both work on airplanes, I’ve never had big problems expect a bit of movement. My brother and I got so used to the feeling that we liked the adrenaline that comes with turbulence. But i’ve been thinking about death a lot these days and I’m so afraid of something bad happening, not only to me but every single person in the plane. If I live through a crash, i’d have to live with the fact that not everyone got out. Heck what if my family doesn’t get out. It’s a horrible feeling and I’m overthinking it. I have a flight later today and I’m freaking out internally. Last night I stress cleaning until very late and now I feel drained, tires and stressed.
flying is a lot of fun and I was video taping it when I flew from Chicago to San Diego in September. Maybe if you see my videos you wont feel afraid....or not. Its nothing to be afraid of we are all safe inside the plane away from the outside. And i trust the pilots and I think its that trust that makes me feel very secure. Plus I see southwest planes flying past my house and over my house and so when I flew southwest for the first time it was fun to be on the other side and I wasn't afraid because i knew that i see them all the time and they never crash. I have flown many times i just flew southwest for the first time in September.
Great advice , usally sitting in the front side of the plane or over the wing side makes less impact of the air terbulence, avoid sitting in the window seat , sit in the aisle seat .
Here's another perspective: I was listening to a radio show about aviation and they were discussing the future possibility of a "pilot-less" commercial airplane. Not auto-pilot, but true "no one in the cockpit", computer flying aircraft. The commentators both agreed "NO". NEVER"......when asked why, they said "I want someone flying the plane that has as much to lose as I do" (i:e: my life)!
kendall Evans I have mixed feelings about it. I agree with the statement, but I also know that humans make mistakes all the time based on emotional decision that a machine wouldn’t make...
sometimes you cant get rid of certain fears.. some people have a fear of flying but still fly.. some people have a fear of heights but cant get rid of the fear.. even if they fly or go high to "cure" it, sometimes you just cant.. there are some fears you can, but everyone is different.. fear doesnt have to stop you doing things though even if there is a risk..
I’m terrified of the air because of the heights mainly if it was low to the ground i wouldn’t care that much I don’t think but I just hate the thought it’s like having 0 control in anything that will and would happen and I hate that but I’m aware it irrational but when I think about planes and going in one my heart beats faster and I feel that adrenaline to run away but I can’t in a plane like bruh it’s so bad
Air Crash Investigation can be good depending on the trigger. In my case I have trust issues about airlines and the people who work there, so watching episodes of industry members prioritising passengers’ safety was the reason I was willing to get on a plane.
I definitely get uneasy flying but it isn’t bad enough to keep my from flying. Every once in a while I have to take a little Xanax if I’m feeling too anxious and it’s usually only bc I make such a big deal out of it. I’ve had terrible turbulence before, so bad people started screaming, and I had taken a Xanax before hand (thank god) and since I wasn’t freaking out it really put things into perspective for me. Either way, Xanax or not, we were never in any danger. So really it comes down to just relaxing and enjoying the flying for what it is. It’s not dangerous and usually you’re going somewhere fun.
Lucky you. They just outlawed all benzos in U.K. for flying phobia. The inhuman bastards. Now flights for me go from serene to terror. Why? Because doctors over prescribed them and now people like me can’t get rhem for occasional flights. Typical NHS sons of byrchss. I hate them
Having watched many Air crash doco's, I've noticed that many accidents have been caused by pilots over confidence in both their abilities and the aircraft eg ignoring warnings and not turning back early, thinking they can troubleshoot in the air.
It really is hard to control your mind when turbulence is REALLY BAD. I was in a flight from Singapore to Hong Kong and the turbulence was SO BAD. I was like "I'm going to be okay" as the plane shook like a roller coaster
I swore off flying for over 45 years and just recently went to the Cayman Islands with my whole family. Flew 4 flights and hit bad turbulence over Florida and had to divert around. I put on a brave face but I was terrified
I’m flying in two days. I’m 11. I’ve been on two aeroplanes, to somewhere, back too. On the way back there was turbulence, and I. Felt. Like. I. Was. About. To. Die. It was so scary. :/ I have to go on to flight to my holiday on Saturday, because I have to stop somewhere and then go in another aeroplane. I have a fear of heights very badly. But I really would like to get over my fear. :(
me too. I enjoyed flying all my life, then had a bad experience with 5 hours of heavy turbulence from Dubai to Bangkok in 2016. Ever since then I've been very uncomfortable when up in the air, even when I tell myself accidents are extremely rare. It's almost like a kind of motion sickness at this point. I just feel more comfortable on the ground.
@@killercd7682 You know, I'm as both of you as well. I flew all the time, in every country/airline (even the old USSR Aeroflot) from my mid-twenties to about 50. Now almost suddenly, it bothers me a lot more. Not sure why but everything about the flight has me anxious from take-off to landing. Sometimes I think I was just so naive I didn't know any better.
The same. I used to be a happy flyer all my life. But ever since that one miserable flight (small plane) that had really bad turbulence, I began to get months later motion sickness, anxiety and claustrophobia. Not knowing that it had such an effect on me, the last flight I was on, I started getting nauseous and uneasy as I was entering the plane. Everything about the plane makes me feel sick now, the sound, the plane smell. Can't believe that I was once upon a Time a happy Traveller.
@@AR-dk1sv Strange, isn't it? I still fly all the time, mostly work and find myself planning 2 hours of bar time prior to the flight, not a good way to live but I just need to calm my nerves.
🌱When flying feels chaotic for me, I turn to calming melodies. Sometimes, it's the little things that matter most. 🌿🎶 Leave a 🌿 if you're finding peace in music while flying!
The thing with me is I will have a massive freak out during takeoff and I’m crying and squeezing my moms hand and I try not to move at all for the first 20 minutes cuz I feel like if I do something bad will happen and then after that I will be fine and I LOVE landing but when we land I try to look out the window just so I know the plane isn’t going so fast that something bad will happen
I’m sorry but turbulence feels like I’m on a roller coaster that I didn’t sign up for. I don’t enjoy it. It’s the cost of seeing loved ones even thought my body revolts. That’s how much I love them.
Claustrophobia that's how I felt with my first flight experience last April. Had sweaty cold palms. I did the breathing, talk to my mother who's beside me to distract my anxious mind and let her massage my palms. And thank God never had it again with my return flight. Will be flying again this month and I hope and pray this will never happen again. I just want to enjoy my flight like others😔
When I was younger I loved flying, and still do today and want to become a pilot as a pass my school exams over time but I had a period around year 6 (grade 7) where I watched Air Crash investigations regularly and then soon later I was in a jet where there was a minor problem I'm not sure what it was but the pilot got a caution warning and this would usually not be too much of worry but because I was watching Air Crash Investigation in the year often I was quite scared. This gave me a minor worry in all flights especially when winter came and a few icing problems came up including one close call to a disaster which I was not on. This was a few years ago and I've over come this fear I ever had and never watched Air Crash investigation and gone back to my younger self and yearning to become a pilot. While you may find the program interesting and cool as I did, if you are ever put into a situation of any problem on a plane you will over react and worry horribly, trust me.
Thats right net geo air crash investigation program made me fear of flying and still im unable to get of this fear before i was lover of fly but now its hard to control your negative fearfull thoughts during flying.
I have to say that is the stupidiest phobia to have, and I still have it for all these years. And I have this and bothers me a lot that I can’t overcome it. But this guy, has given me a lot of hope!
People need to realise that there's a huge difference between having a fear of flying and having a phobia. A phobia is an *irrational* fear and no amount of rational advice is going to help to overcome it. You can give me all sorts of advice but it's useless because I wouldn't even attempt to set foot on the plane. I gave up with air travel back in 1984 and I know for certain that I am incurable. Ask me if I have a phobia concerning flying and you will get a resounding "Yes!" from me. Ask me why and I honestly couldn't tell you......I just have it.
I would actually say that plane crash victims get the respect they deserve while victims of other crashes get too little respect. Imagine if everyone committed to driving more safely every time there was a fatal car crash.
Am I the only one that’s not afraid of dying in a flight, but I’m terrified of planes? I’m not afraid of dying. I know where I’m going. I’m just scared of the fear and anxiety that’s going to hit me when I’m on a plane surrounded by people trapped in a place very high in the air and I can’t get out if I want.
I'm not afraid of the dying or the actual crash if it ever happened. I am afraid of the feeling of going down before the crash. I loathe rollercoasters too. That horrible feeling of falling - the worst.
One more thing may made people nervous is that the pilots do not see the whole exteria of the plane, a passenger may see quickly if a smoke or little fire from the engine or some physical damage happening. The pilot may know something is wrong but may not as quickly. Kid of strange that modern day airplane provide no means for pilots to see outside of an plane.
The last thing he said was the most powerful. "People want to fly with confidence." I prayed to have confidence for my recent flight (November 28, 2018) because I've always struggled with the take off but not the turbulence or landing. I flew for 4 1/2 hours anxiety free!! I'm not a frequent flyer but I finally flew with confidence.
I am an uneasy flier and I have found the smaller the plane the worst the fear gets. Lately, I have started reminding myself of all the more likely things which can happen to me on the ground which can't really happen in the air; Getting killed by a wild animal, hit by a car or bus, shot or stabbed, falling down stairs, hit by falling objects to name a few things. Airplanes, for western standard airlines anyway, provided incredibly controlled spaces where there are hundreds of parts and systems working to keep me safe. That plus the highly skilled pilots.
This may sound stupid but in my mind if you are in a car and it breaks down you just stop and help arrives.. if you are on a ship and the engines stop you just float.. but if thst happens in a plane you just drop.. theres nothing under you holding you up
Doesn't matter how many planes I get on or how many of these videos I watch.. "Landing" is still the greatest feeling of relief in the world.
Tell me about it!
Same here during my first ever flight experience. Landing will give u that relief feeling of safety.
😂
It is!!
that my fav. part of the entire procedure.
The same feeling.
So true.. thanks man. I want to fly again I just hate going through all the anticipatory anxiety.. and the I just wonder if it's worth it. :/
The fear does not vanish... you just dont have another option but to b in that flight. I have been in a 9 hours flight, crying, totally panicking and getting crazy, I couldnt do anything to calm in any minute. Fear just vanished when the plane landed.

I fly for business reasons and have been on over 300 flights. I still tend to get a little nervous but I can distract myself. Here are a couple ways I decrease my anxiety. I hope this helps. : )
- We are all more likely to die in a car accident than a plane accident.
I figure the pilot would not allow
drink service if there were any concerns.
- Sometimes I listen to music, and this can calm me down,
- If you are a talkative person, sometimes talking to your neighbor on a flight helps. When I am
nervous, talking to my neighbor does not always help me but I know some people say it makes
a difference.
- Crossword puzzles. I carry a couple of crossword puzzle I cut out of the newspapers. I find trying
to solve a puzzle helps me.
- I remind myself the wings moving is not a concern, the wings are designed to move.
- We humans do not not move up and down in vertical space much. So, the vertical sensation
that occurs in turbulence is 'uncomfortable' but it does not mean anything concerning is
happening.
- Each time I finish a flight and walk off, I tell myself I accomplished the flight and I am proud. I sorta laugh at myself for making a big deal of the flight. And replay the scary
moments- realizing they were not that scary. I was just working myself up.
- I know people who will not buy their favorite candy for 3 weeks before the flight. Then, while
in the terminal, they buy their favorite candy bar. Then on the flight they get to eat it.
They reward themselves for staying brave and finally having their favorite candy is a big
treat!
Thank you for this. Very helpful.🙏🏾
I'm not afraid of flying, I'm afraid of crashing.

I think most will agree with me that one of the worst bits is when the plane is levelling and it feels like your dropping, and does anyone else get that feeling like your on a roller coaster and it’s slowly going up and up and it feels like you should drop but you don’t ( in short it’s just unnerving )

Hawkerben 115 this weirdly made me feel worse about things I didn’t know I cared about 😂
My airport is SNA (Orange County, CA.).
Hawkerben 115 YES!!
Oh hell nah i would have a full blown panic attack
I learned from Air Crash Investigation the following:
1- The show covers about 40 incidents happened during the last 50 years.
This made me feel better than all the other negative commenrs
yeah, but when it happens, its usually fatal
@@birdhovno incorrect. Your chances of surviving a plane crash are 90% and up. Most plane “crashes” aren’t even fatal, you just only hear about the fatal ones because it’s newsworthy and click bait.
I’m just afraid of the take off. It’s so rough and forceful

This guy is a genius! He knows how to calm people down. God bless him.
As someone that used to have a fear of flying, here is a list of things more likely to happen than dying in a plane crash:
Becoming President of the United States, dying from a meteorite strike, winning an oscar, winning an olympic gold medal, drowning in your bathtub, dating a millionaire, writing a NY times bestseller, dying in a tornado, meeting someone who speaks cherokee, living to 100, dying from a lightning strike, dying from scalding hot water, dying from food poisoning, dying from falling off a ladder (lol) and dying from falling out of your own bed (lol).
Happy flying!
Where'd you get this from? lol
Well thanks but now i’m gonna start sleeping on the floor
Laurel - lol
There is no rational reason to be afraid of flying, but only one person has ever been hit by a meteor, and she lived.
Thank you!
Here’s another good piece of advice. Flying is a regular thing, you’re just not used to it. Thousands of flights every day, just like car rides and train rides and every other form of transportation. Pilots and flight attendants are highly trained professionals. Planes may be scary but at the end of the day you will be fine.
Different when you live in Australia bro we gotta cross the massive ocean for 15+ hours to get to Europe or America
Hahaha true@@triocha24
I think the best way to overcome your air travel fear is to believe in the pilot of your plane.. and believe that he knows how to handle the situation.. all air crew members are well knowledgeable about the situation onborad so relax have your seat belt on and enjoy the ride and trust the air pilots know their job well. And also keep in mind that air turbulence are common for planes to come across. Please just follow the instructions of the cabin crew members and pilot for a safe journey... Hope this tip will help a little to at least. Do keep me posted.
thank you this really helped :) i am flying from new england to California tomorrow so im freakin out a bit
SophieBeDerping Did you survive, because im really scared 😥
If you don't look around and see those folks, your probably one of them
Nervously sitting in my seat and then a high-pitched, female voice comes over the PA system, "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking......"
I'm already tugging at the lever to open the door!
Watching this on a plane just before takeoff
did u survive?
Reply if your still alive
oh god
Damn..
This isn’t good..
So, did you end up flying?
Omg I do the 10 minutes thing too, and I try to use a distraction for each set of 10 minutes: read a magazine, eat a chocolate, go to the restroom, talk to someone, play a game,... it's so hard to concentrate tho, even if for ten minutes straight, even if mundane tasks
I can completely relate with you
I can totally relate.
Thank you for posting. 54 and going overseas in two weeks. Always struggled with this. This piece helps a lot! I will rewatch.
It’s a positive step in the right direction.
im watching thise becouse i was watching air crash investiugation and i fly tomorow

So... are you guys still alive?
Naj Jelen I always used to watch it and they wouldn’t get out of my recommendations so I just created a new google account😂
I love that series. I watched it like a few hours before the flight. My parents were not happy about the fact that I was watching that before flying lol.

Thanks flying tomorrow
Michael Food and Travel Guru Just got back from vacation, four flights total. Just try to keep yourself distracted, and sleep if you can. Safe travels.

"Airplane crashes get alot of airtime" did he just make a pun? 🤣

Even his name is comforting, Mr.Allright 🤣
Best way is to seat back and let someone take control of the plane. Pilots know what to do and get trained for it. Just let go your fear and enjoy being on a different environment. It works 👌
I will try ty x
you know, i think air crash investigations should be stopped,
because a lot of people watch that, and it is just very bad, because there are so many episodes, it looks like it happends quitte often, and a lot of people, they develop or make a fear even worse,
and that's why air crash investigations should be stopped!
Agree
that's me I watch so many air crash investigation when I go on a plane I always think we are gonna crash
yea coz after watching one ep i wanna to watch another one but i know im going to get more scared
+Galaxy Supernova (EXO) yeah I'm already scared of flying
Thanx for your comment..
No need to be scared, have a few drinks before and you will be fine.
It's so reassuring how calm and handsome he is.
This is so helpful. You have no idea. Thank you so much!
People scared of flying go "I love driving!"
Driving actually is more risky!
Leumens Not the four wheels for me. Because we’re on the ground and not in the air!
Perhaps being on the ground is much more of a secure and comforting feeling than being in a metal tube 30,000 + feet in the air.
@@julienalexander6113 that’s not true
The aircraft is never in danger during turbulence? OMG! Nice
Nope.
Just like driving on a bumpy road in a car or truck.
@@yolsclassics6347 Only in Extreme turbulance will it be unsafe. Even in severe turbulance the plane will most likely be fine.
Plane crashes may be uncommon, but there is a chance I could be the one...
+NetherHaileyGaming your more likely to crash on the way to the airport in a car or bus than crash in a plane
Бернардо Галкер
No matter how carefully you try to co troll those things, you’re still more likely to die from those than in a plane crash.
When my plane crashes over the sea and I get drowned alive I will remember this
Like Dave Allen said: “I’m not afraid of flying. I’m afraid of getting up to 35,000 feet and then not flying.”
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
It's not possible for a plane to suddenly not be able to fly unless if the wings have fallen off
@@maulanwong3841 This is a valid point!

The sad thing is, air crash investigation made me have a fear of flying
Oh, that’s side. In my case I had trust issues about this industry and Air Crash Investigation was the reason I was willing to get back on a plane because the people on it prioritise safety.
Starts at 2:43
It’s turbulence that’s scary, especially when it’s more than just minor bumps but sustained rocking in three dimensions. Oh, well.

Air crashes get an awful lot of airtime, haha! But the captain inspires great confidence, has a soothing voice.
Don't worry as long as the wings don't fall off then you're ok
I'm guessing things turned out alright? :)
flying is a lot of fun and I was video taping it when I flew from Chicago to San Diego in September.

I am very envious of you, I wish I could be delighted in it because it is a great thing! no doubt about it.
Now I know that all of my travel is really safe and there isn't the slightest of problems ever thank you great video 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🍀🍀🍀🛫✈️🛬💒💺💯🔛🔝🏡
Great advice , usally sitting in the front side of the plane or over the wing side makes less impact of the air terbulence, avoid sitting in the window seat , sit in the aisle seat .
Well now I feel allright about flying 🙄🤣
Here's another perspective: I was listening to a radio show about aviation and they were discussing the future possibility of a "pilot-less" commercial airplane. Not auto-pilot, but true "no one in the cockpit", computer flying aircraft. The commentators both agreed "NO". NEVER"......when asked why, they said "I want someone flying the plane that has as much to lose as I do" (i:e: my life)!
kendall Evans I have mixed feelings about it. I agree with the statement, but I also know that humans make mistakes all the time based on emotional decision that a machine wouldn’t make...
@@AS-xi6lp Good point!

sometimes you cant get rid of certain fears.. some people have a fear of flying but still fly.. some people have a fear of heights but cant get rid of the fear.. even if they fly or go high to "cure" it, sometimes you just cant.. there are some fears you can, but everyone is different.. fear doesnt have to stop you doing things though even if there is a risk..
He sure has a good last name for a person who reassures people with fear of flights.
Thankyou sir , I no longer puke while THINKING of my flight

I hate them
@@RaferJeffersonIII you should still be able to get some even if you have to explain you phobia extends passed aviation
@@Jwingmann they said it’s no longer prescribed for phobias
Having watched many Air crash doco's, I've noticed that many accidents have been caused by pilots over confidence in both their abilities and the aircraft eg ignoring warnings and not turning back early, thinking they can troubleshoot in the air.
It really is hard to control your mind when turbulence is REALLY BAD. I was in a flight from Singapore to Hong Kong and the turbulence was SO BAD. I was like "I'm going to be okay" as the plane shook like a roller coaster
My biggest fear in flying is technical failure not turbulence and that has been the cause of most of these crashes.
It’s extremely rare

i used to enjoy flying, now i'm just anxious and want to get on land as soon as possible

These are very good tips for anxiety in general, not just flying 👍
I am going to Japan in a few days so hopefully this will help at least a little
flying from england to borneo tomorrow
The thing with me is I will have a massive freak out during takeoff and I’m crying and squeezing my moms hand and I try not to move at all for the first 20 minutes cuz I feel like if I do something bad will happen and then after that I will be fine and I LOVE landing but when we land I try to look out the window just so I know the plane isn’t going so fast that something bad will happen
I’m sorry but turbulence feels like I’m on a roller coaster that I didn’t sign up for. I don’t enjoy it. It’s the cost of seeing loved ones even thought my body revolts. That’s how much I love them.
there have any medication to feel relax during flight,,, I'm so scared ,,,
Claustrophobia that's how I felt with my first flight experience last April. Had sweaty cold palms. I did the breathing, talk to my mother who's beside me to distract my anxious mind and let her massage my palms. And thank God never had it again with my return flight. Will be flying again this month and I hope and pray this will never happen again. I just want to enjoy my flight like others😔
I love going up but hate coming down lol and I have a massive turbulence anxiety it's the lack of control he talks about ...
I don't need help ie an R. to recognise my fear. When mim afraid I bloody know it
When I was younger I loved flying, and still do today and want to become a pilot as a pass my school exams over time but I had a period around year 6 (grade 7) where I watched Air Crash investigations regularly and then soon later I was in a jet where there was a minor problem I'm not sure what it was but the pilot got a caution warning and this would usually not be too much of worry but because I was watching Air Crash Investigation in the year often I was quite scared. This gave me a minor worry in all flights especially when winter came and a few icing problems came up including one close call to a disaster which I was not on. This was a few years ago and I've over come this fear I ever had and never watched Air Crash investigation and gone back to my younger self and yearning to become a pilot. While you may find the program interesting and cool as I did, if you are ever put into a situation of any problem on a plane you will over react and worry horribly, trust me.
thanks for this, good luck becoming a pilot :)
Who else felt relieved when he started talking but then ne said occasionally crashes do happen and then you felt like crying 😭😬😭😬😭😬😭😬😭😬
If this man was my pilot I would never be scared of flying again
Could be be any more calming? He's the Brian Busby of the air (he is my local chief meterologist and talks me right thru my tornado phobias hehheh)
Thats right net geo air crash investigation program made me fear of flying and still im unable to get of this fear before i was lover of fly but now its hard to control your negative fearfull thoughts during flying.
What are the 4 Rs? I only caught Recognizing, React, Regulate and ? And I don't know how to do them from this clip.
I have travel anxiety.
I have a flight after 5hours.
Limited amount of adrenaline say that to people with anxiety disorders
I would actually say that plane crash victims get the respect they deserve while victims of other crashes get too little respect. Imagine if everyone committed to driving more safely every time there was a fatal car crash.
How do I get information about the course he's offering I have a fear of flying
Thank you thank you so much cause I'm trying to get away from the fear of flying. And this video really help a lot. Thanks to the pilot
Exactly
You are awesome captain 👍 thanks
I'm not afraid of the dying or the actual crash if it ever happened. I am afraid of the feeling of going down before the crash. I loathe rollercoasters too. That horrible feeling of falling - the worst.
One more thing may made people nervous is that the pilots do not see the whole exteria of the plane, a passenger may see quickly if a smoke or little fire from the engine or some physical damage happening. The pilot may know something is wrong but may not as quickly. Kid of strange that modern day airplane provide no means for pilots to see outside of an plane.
This helped loads I need this guy as my pilot XD
The last thing he said was the most powerful. "People want to fly with confidence." I prayed to have confidence for my recent flight (November 28, 2018) because I've always struggled with the take off but not the turbulence or landing. I flew for 4 1/2 hours anxiety free!! I'm not a frequent flyer but I finally flew with confidence.
R Dy that’s really great !! A positive mind is the key to overcome your anxiety :)
What is the name of the course, it is never mentioned?
nevermind i googled it- by British Airways, Flying with Confidence
I am an uneasy flier and I have found the smaller the plane the worst the fear gets. Lately, I have started reminding myself of all the more likely things which can happen to me on the ground which can't really happen in the air; Getting killed by a wild animal, hit by a car or bus, shot or stabbed, falling down stairs, hit by falling objects to name a few things. Airplanes, for western standard airlines anyway, provided incredibly controlled spaces where there are hundreds of parts and systems working to keep me safe. That plus the highly skilled pilots.
His last night name is perfect
This may sound stupid but in my mind if you are in a car and it breaks down you just stop and help arrives.. if you are on a ship and the engines stop you just float.. but if thst happens in a plane you just drop.. theres nothing under you holding you up
I'm going on a plane next year and I know that I'm going to be crying and shaking the whole time. (the plane ride is only 2 hours btw😂)
Over to Ireland it’s 30-45 minutes but it feels like 4 hours
Drink alot lol
How was it?
I used to be afraid of flying just before flying to Vietnam last week. I can personally say that turbulence is quite nice. I actually helped my sleep
