Don’t want to mention it, but Erling Haaland was born in Leeds so technically had English as a second nationality (as he chose to represent Norway) so he shouldn’t have been released
It's strange that he never seemed to be on England's radar but I don't think he has citizenship in England
@@doctorninetytwo3300 he was born here, so he has access to a British passport and therefor citizenship.
@@Alacarte614 you don't get citizenship by default in all cases! There is a page to check it on the government website for a reason! That said I'd imagine he could have applied for it fairly easily
He’s said many times. He was born in Leeds but his family history is Scandinavian. He himself said he doesn’t feel English or think he is either. He wanted to play for Norway growing up. I can imagine that’s why he was never on the FA’s radar. He wasn’t eligible, nor would he ever be. Because he chose Norway.
I was born in Japan. But my mother and father are Welsh. If I was a professional player, I’d play for wales. Because I’m Welsh, just being born somewhere don’t make you that nationality.
He chose, thats a key word. When you chose to represent one country, you should lose your status in the other.
I think it would be interesting to see what would happen in every league can only use from the nation the league is in

Would be intresting if every league in Europe was to only use players in there own country
I feel like the balkan countries would dominate the european competitions, maybe portugal and belgium as well.

Worldwide transfer embargo saves are my favourite. It’s the only way to really create parity, at least at a macro level. City will always win the Prem, but they might be prone to drop a Champions League or two to Dinamo Zagreb
Think a few players slipped through the net… like Matheus Nunes 4:58 & Halaland being released.. but great video concept might be interesting to see how other countries fair like this?
I love watching these videos as a Tranmere fan. No matter what the scenario presented is, we just sit mid table in L2 forever 😂

Surprised Haaland was released, considering he was born in Leeds and lived there till he was 3. Surely he should also be exempt
Born in England automatically gives you citizenship?
He is in the game, he's listed as born in Leeds and eligible for England national team. That's why I don't understand why he was removed when players like Reyna were allowed to transfer in.

You didn't mention it Tom, but Scotland was climbing the UEFA league rankings. Up to 7th and then overtook Portugal into 6th so Scotland did benefit somewhat
Yeah Rangers won a Europa league then later on Hearts did as well and hibs got to a final. I can only presume Scotland were getting bigger transfer fees from their home grown players and were able to buy good foreigners that would have otherwise went to England.
should do this again but with every league, only english players in england, spanish players in spain, dutch players in the netherlands etc.

I wonder if lower league teams are downgrading their facilities because there's now so many quality players being produced in general, so better players are more likely to be available for cheap or even on a free when they fail to make it in the top flight

If you're doing it for the whole of the British Isles then you should also be putting a focus into Ireland, Scotland and Wales instead of only focusing on England like you do for the majority of your videos

I think the biggest issue is that all the other big leagues probably weren't selected as playable and so the English leagues had a bit of a leg up.
Halaand was born in Leeds so using the Reyna logic he should stayed at Manchester City
Why did Haaland leave Manchester City?
Good question. Its the same case as with Gio Reyna. Haaland is born in Leeds and therefore should be able to play in the Prem

When I was going through players I was removing them via their first nationality rather than combing through all the secondary nationalities.
@@TomFM english is his first nationality as his country of birth, its actually common knowledge he was born in england anyway, main point being is having him still playing in england could of had far different results be it for man city, little things like that though you really should know, same in germany england lost a couple of players due to changing allegiance like haaland did

Peterboroughs consistency in finishing in league 1 in every video of this type is painful.
That was really interesting as an incomplete experience. Yeah that remind me the debate in the late 20th century when they put in place the rules we all know about foreign players in the EU. The result you got is the same as defender of the nation's youth players. That's the same as rugby in France with the professionalization , they discussed the impact on the national team. Then why i said incomplete? because the FM game has 1 flaw : TV rights. The amount of finances the league brings don't change much but with those rules i'm pretty sure the revenue will plummet as we can all see that on "inferior championship". The quality of the squads bring more revenue and more revenue brings more good squad etc... You see my point. In your simulation the english clubs had the same amount of money as they used to and that's the flaw of the experiment. As a french that's easy to see how much the "ligue 1" generates with squads without great stars and the impact of the quatari era on the tv revenue with big names coming.
I do love how Plymouth go from the Championship all the way down to the national leagues and back up to League 1. Essentially only dropping 1 division in this whole 50 seasons

Haaland was born whilst his dad was playing for Leeds, and he was born and raised here but chose to represent his dad's country instead

Since Gio Reyna can play for english clubs due to place of birth, Haaland should be able to do the same. He was born i Leeds.

Is there a database where it has done this for all leagues? i.e. Italian clubs can only use Italians, French clubs using only the French and so on?

Haaland was born and raised in England for more than 3 years. Alfe was playing for Leeds when he was born and went on to play for Man City. Haaland should have stayed at Man City.

It's a complete fallacy that excluding foreigners benefit the national team. It's classic protectionism leading to complacency with English players. Yes you have more English players but they perform languidly content to win domestic titles and not being challenged to be excellent performers, just mediocre village quality players.

Bringing back the 3 foreigners rule wouldn't bother me at all, it would make football interesting again. Man City would actually have to use their academy for a start.
