- So Nicolas Mueller gets warned for trying too hard to get to the ball, but at the same time it's a NO LET? What more effort can he show? The ball is surely not a winner.
What would be your decision here?
[Nicolas Mueller - Auguste Dussourd. European Championships 2023 semi-final]
No Let was far too harsh but neither was it a Stroke imo. The ball was still too far away from him and he still had another step to reach it. The correct decision should have been Let imo.
Firstly, an opponent should not expect a direct route to the ball. Secondly, the opponent must be in a position to not only play the ball, but arguably be able to play a winner had he not been hindered, to be awarded a stroke. The opponent was lucky to be awarded a let, as the ref may have taken the view that he didn't make sufficient effort to get to the ball.
I look at it as, if Dussourd were not there, then Mueller would've made the shot. Dussourd needs to clear the line to the ball. He actually moved back into Mueller's path. Should have been a stroke.
Please be careful. I have no idea why he is saying it 🤩
The rules used to state that your opponent should be allowed a clear and unobstructed path to the ball. Not sure if thats still the case or if the interpretation from the ref's is to reduce the amount of lets given. Sometimes its just a let!!!
I say no let cause the ball already went past and he shouldve gone round the back to have a chance to get to it
Let ball, Mueller playing the man, but also Dussourd is backing up to get in the way and pretending to be dumb.
2 dumbs make a let.
I think dassourd was backing up think he'd hit it a bit deeper than he actually had. I could definitely be wrong though

I concur@@cookesam6
Stroke all day long. The direct path to the ball was blocked. The ball bounced back to the service box. Nicolas would have played this easily without the opponent being on the way.
Yes let. I would only add a conduct warning if it seemed the match was going to descend into rugby. If this was just an isolated incident then its a pretty normal bump into the other player.
Just isolated incident in terms of pushing throughout the match:)
Let
That's why it'll never make it to the Olympics, too messy and silly refereeing like this. It was a traffic issue, play a let, ball was still bouncing and he was attempting to play it.
It cant make to olympics because it is out of their budget.
Obviously, no let
@@modetas You don't play the sport though do you.
age like milk
yes let for me. ball second-bounced midcourt while orange-shirt. if blue-shirt hit it deeper than would be different story.
No let. Dudes not even close to getting that ball
Stroke ball was coming directly in to his path couldn’t play a clear shot
No let and Warning 👍, too aggressive
Well, if not "agressive", ref will give no let because of no effort given
Would have been Let, but he put his arm around his opponent and carried him to the ball. No Let
I would have given him a conduct warning. There was no need to run into the outher player like that. He ran into him on purpose.
What was he supposed to do?
no let. looks like a winner to me
So squash has had consistently terrible officiating. Good to know!
Yep, that never changed.
Squash as much as I love it has this problem. Too much subjective refereeing. Tennis got rid of linesmen which eliminates issues…much too Ostapenko’s dislike…;-)
