A wetlands restoration project is underway to help protect South Louisiana’s primary westward hurricane evacuation route. The LaBranche East Marsh Creation Project is building 1400 acres of wetlands around the Bonnet Carre Spillway in St. James Parish. In this segment, LPB’s Karen LeBlanc takes us on an airboat ride for an up-close look at the project’s progress and its potential to reduce storm surges in the region.
