I usually don’t comment, but I just want to let you know that I really enjoy your videos each Monday. I’ve been quilting for years but I think it’s really important to keep learning new techniques and to improve my sewing as much as possible. Thanks for taking the time to do a video each week and sharing your knowledge.

From your new scrap bag I see strip blocks, scrappy nine patch, or send it to me 😂

Thanks for your advice, including Karen Brown's video. I love that our UA-cam quilters share info and reference each other.

Thank you for adding the part about replacing a wrong block part. Much easier if the quilt is still in blocks. If the quilt is already quilted, much more complicated. Jordan Fabrics recently put out a video on fixing an error or patching a quilt AFTER quilting is completed. Very thorough.

Cut 5 inch squares and sew together quickly for a project linus quilt. These cute kiddy prints need to be big enough for a kiddo to enjoy.

There was lots of good information here. I hardly ever use steam anymore. Instead, I use a mister bottle with water and a dry iron. I have a second mister bottle that I fill with a 50/50 mixture of Mary Ellen's Best Press and water, but I don't use it too often. I recently got the Acorn pen, and it really works like a dream. And last, Deb Tucker's Tucker Trimmer is fantastic. One of my current projects is a quilt that's all HST's and Hourglass blocks, and it makes it so much easier. (The pattern is from Fallon of Sew Be It Quilts called "Scrap Explosion" - a great scrap buster.)

I thought starch was a waste of time, until I tried it on a quilt. Starched all the fabric, it was a game changer. Tracy on the Sewing Channel using a spray paint attachment because she has arthritis. I have very little strength in my hands, and it helps. I thought of an ISPY quilt for the Linus Project. Thank you for your vlogs every Monday. I look forward to learning something new.

In regards to the donated fabric...sell it by the pound as remnants.

Having a sharp blade on my rotary cutter also helps with accurate cutting so that I know that the job will get done on the first cut. ‘Sawing’ with a dull blade is just asking for trouble! Love your channel!

Re. the scraps. I enjoy shopping for scrap bags. It many times opens my eyes to other colors that I might not buy yardage for. Bundle the scraps however you like (I appreciate when I can get a bundle of solids since I don't typically stash solids) and put them up for sale in your shop. You might do a video on that process because some of us might want to do the same (sell online, gift to crafter friends, etc.)

The very best way to make your rulers non-slip (in my opinion) is to get out your glue gun and a non-stick sheet and put a small drop of glue near the edge of the wrong side of your ruler, then, on a hard surface, put the ruler down firmly to “mash” the ruler flat to flatten the glue drop. Wait for it to cool and repeat on every corner and as many times down the side as you think you need. If you don’t like it, the glue is easily removed. I did this on every single one of my rulers (except the Quilter’s Select ones) and it works like a charm! NOTE: I would not recommend using this method on the Quilter’s Select rulers because they already have a non slip application on them.

I love my Tucker Trimmer 1 for all of the reasons you gave! Saving up for the Trimmer 3 because of using larger blocks more than anything. Thanks for a great video Maureen!

Thank you for your advice. I am quite an inexperienced quilter and I've had trouble with accuracy, now I know what to work on. 👍from Somerset UK

Hi Maureen thank you for another very informative video. For your scraps have a look at Terry Rowlands channel and her color wash quilt scrap challenge. She makes a beautiful quilt out of lots of scraps . I'm doing a few blocks at a time but I need a lot more scraps to finish it.

For your bag of scraps: first, sort by color. Then make color combinations you like (pink/purple, blue/green, etc.). You may want to add a neutral background, depending on the pattern you choose. After watching one of your earlier episodes, I bought an XL Stripology ruler to cut units of many different scraps at one time. With my scraps, I'm making your Alternate Block pattern as a Leader-Ender project.
I really enjoy your videos and this one was particularly insightful. Thanks!

Deb Tucker shipping is super fast. When I can't find a ruler or technique sheet locally, I order from her directly.

I used to use steam all the time but when I purchased my new Oliso (which I love!) I decided not to put water in it. I use a spray alternative now and have great luck. I just have to say that there are no better rulers than Deb Tucker's. Nice videos, thanks!

Thanks for this! I have begun to starch and it really does make a difference. I've noticed lately that where I have my light positioned when I cut has been creating a slight shadow making it more difficult to see the edge of the fabric under the ruler. I love Creative Grids rulers but for me the Alex Anderson ones are so nonslip that I have a hard time moving them. I'd love to know if there is a trick to this as so many love her rulers. When I press with steam (after starching) I try to press parallel to the selvage edge. Less distortion that way. And thanks for the Tucker Trimmer idea! I had no idea it would do this!

Cheers Maureen. I've just been making square in a square blocks - I used Deb Tucker's special ruler (large one that comes in two halves) - game changer! I've never been that accurate doing those blocks! I'm lucky here in that the Creative Grids UK does some and so does Quilt Direct if anyone in the UK wants to have a look. They are expensive, but I've gradually built up my collection of the rulers. Unfortunately neither companies do the technique sheets, but luckily she now does them in PDF form. Husband went to Utah and the shops that he popped into for me didn't do the rulers either. He's a good man - came home with loads of thread!
