So today, singing "Se" from Nuovo Cinema Paradiso is a strong feeling, (gives me) a strong emotion while i sing it. He recorded in Studio A with his Orchestra and we were in Studio B so in this first album we had this Morricone's track from both "C'era una volta in America" and "Malena" the title is "E più ti penso" which is also included in this Album; he came to say hi every now and then and from there the idea to perform together in Piazza del Popolo was born. BUT! During rehearsals we came in as this little, naive, 15y.o. so we're there among those 100 elements of orchestra the Maestro was conducting and it was our turn, the Maestro gives me the signal but i don't start ( i had to begin ) i look at him and say :"Oh, so you give me the signal?" I speak to him without the form of courtesy in front of the whole orchestra, and he said to me: "Don't ya worry kiddo, sing it, i'll handle this" therefore this is a beautiful memory, you see, when you are young you live certain things without being aware, you know? So, i bet we had been endearing to him ((on that occasion)). We can say we have this nice memory with Maestro Ennio Morricone. - Interviewer : Have a nice trip! For real Let's Rock!

0:06 TITLE CARD: Il Volo sings Morricone is a special disc (album).
- P: "Il Volo sings Morricone" means il Volo is singing a genre on itself (unique, one of a kind) Morricone was a genre in itself! A world of pearls, surprises, a discovery a ridiscovery, a study... I must say that in these 2 years forced to stay at home, and then in studio, time has been our best friend it made us discover Morricone's world.
0:34 : There's total support from Morricone's Family
- G: Of course we contacted the family as soon as we had this idea, we were looking for suggestions/advice on how to handle things but then we got total support so it was not to be taken for granted and we still thank Morricone's Family. We are honored to give voice to the most beautiful melodies of all, because if we think about it, composition-wise, "The ecstasy of gold" is one of the most-- it's an epic melody -- and poignant at the same time; i believe it's one of the most complete -- Like Piero said it goes beyond classical music, it's not ((just!?)) classic it's rock it's timeless, really. See, Metallica open their concerts with The Ecstasy Of Gold and we like to think that we will open concerts like this too, like Metallica! So we'll start with a Bang like they say, so we'll drop a bomb like, i can hint it will be so cool be back on tour. This is going to be lit to start every concert because we're getting back to you with a huge orchestra, it's gonna be an experience to live to the fullest!
1:42 World Tour begins in March.
- I: We can't wait to go back at it, like Piero said we have been home 2 years without the opportunity to vent our emotions, our voices but... it's so nice this sensation of sharing emotions from the stage with the audience, with people that paid in order to hear those melodies, to hear you sing, and seeing them excited(moved), this is an emotion that we missed for two years, so we can't wait -- We'll start this world tour from United States then we'll tour Italy, Europe, Japan and... Again we can't wait, i think it's the fullest, ultimate thing to do for an artist to perform on a stage on tour.
2:39 "I Colori dell'Amore" It's written by Andrea Morricone ["The colors of love"]
- P: Here we give credit to Andrea Morricone because the lyrics are written by him, he wanted to give us this as gift, this is why it's the song that closes the album, we decided to open with The Ecstasy of Gold so we can open the concerts, give space to the Morricone World and then we have I Colori Dell'Amore as cherry on top, it seals the relationship, the trust the support that there was with Maestro Andrea Morricone, great Conductor of Orchestra, Composer.
3:15 Earlier this year, on June 5 you (re)opened the concerts' season.
- P: For us, in Arena di Verona on June 5, it was a concert due (a must) with the support given by ministry of culture because we were just getting out of that period of restrictions and distancing, we still live this but in June it was stronger that moment and... We opened Concerts' season, it has been a breath of oxygen, we discovered that the audience is our oxygen and seeing those faces has been like doing our first concert. Hope is there (is not missing) we know it is an uphill journey, slow, complex, but we will return to that serenity.
4:04 So have you become "grownups"?
- G: Well, clearly starting from being gifted kids it's a huge challenge, because to consolidate success it is required much time and quality, i mean, that (quality) with time pays off especially after the choices we made, surely from Torpedine's management that made us what we are today thanks to the right choices, and with a music style and an artistic evolution that allowed us year after year, project after project, to reach a certain prestige repertoir wise, isn't it? Like the Tribute to the Three Tenors it has been a demonstration of growth, without doubts, or (again) for example this Morricone project that is quite distant from the many things we did in the past, because like Piero said this is it's own genre that it's not just classical music, so every year we try to surprise ourselves and others of course, so this demonstrates surely an artistic growth.
5:07 Does this Album represents a chance for young people to listen to Morricone?
- I : Well Yes, or maybe they (kinda) knew. How many times happens that ya listen to a melody but don't know who made it then you know it's from Morricone and go "noo!! ((really?))" Right? How many times can that happen? That has been our goal since the beginning, to spread this music among a younger audience, ya know maybe it is reknown that what's not trendy now it's not this, but it's history that repeats itself Vintage always comes back, and this music is... Sometimes we analyze the word "classic" classic means that it never dies, this music is classica, it's someting that will remain in our tradition and culture. and we will always put our effort in order to make it known (culture and traditions) to Italians and especially to the whole world, to the differents cultures.
6:11 A memory of Maestro Morricone...
- P: My first encounter with Morricone has been during my first time watching the movie "Nuovo Cinema Paradiso" i remember that moment, many years ago, i won't hide the fact that i cried, because i'm Sicilian - Ignazio too - it's hard to explain the strong emotion, pain, joy, i don't know how to interpret it (explain) but that movie ends with Philippe Noiret that gives an advice to Totò the child - whom is departing Sicily to go to Rome to reach his dream of becoming a director - and the advice that he gives him is ""Don't get caught by nostalgia (homesickness), don't ever come back to Sicily, that gives you nothing, and will never give you anything"" and this is anger, this is truth, i dunno how to explain it, hence that line, that vision, is always present in me when i leave Sicily to go in tour 5/6 months then nostalgia brings me back i can't help it but to return. So today, singing "Se" from Nuovo Cinema Paradiso is a strong feeling, (gives me) a strong emotion while i sing it. So i tie Morricone to the movie it's all connected.
- I : One memory it's for sure the moment when he conducted us in Rome in Piazza del Popolo [(The People's Square), there was a concert] that's a great memory for sure and one moment i remember was him being awarded with the Oscar to the Career(Academy Award) I think Italy as a whole has been so proud of that, and one of the tracks that i like most is "here's to you" because it tells a mean story, an awful truth of Sacco and Vanzetti and makes me so emotional.
