I’ve been on a no buy for over a year, I’ve only replaced mascara. That includes body and hair care. I’ve got so many things that need to be used up and clutter gives me anxiety, as does buying things I don’t need. I have enough blush to last till I die I think! So I have a list of things I want to replace things with when I’m done. Simplifying my skin care too as it’s easy to end up with endless serums. Love this message!

I'm going to try the no buy that's a great idea! Especially for the planet and the wallet. For me another form of deinfluencing is honestly every influencer doing a Lilysilk haul a couple times a year makes it seem like a cult or a scam 😂

Thats so me. I wear sooo little make up but I have four blushes - two of them are rare beauty. So why buying more? Same with skincare. My skin loves a simple routine. I made a picture of ALL my skincare as a reminder when I wanna buy something new - do you really need that? Dont you have enough? 😂

💯 Yesss I could have written this post. I also restricted my clothes buying due to anxiety about deciding what to wear. Steve Jobs also went through this, and why he wore the same thing all the time. Spending less time making decisions on a daily basis has helped my anxiety tremendously.

I decluttered my make up and hair products to those I only ACTUALLY use and like, and keep the list of product brand/names/colors on my phone, so that when I go in places like Ulta or Sephora I can refer to it and get ONLY those items I KNOW I use and not get side tracked by 'shiny sparkly oh i saw so and so use this' things...... its helped me stay on track a LOT! I also only go in if I am out, or almost out of something and stick to my list!

i agree with dry shampoo so much!! it doesn’t work for finer hair at all, because it’s just ANOTHER product to build up in your hair after it’s already greasy

    • @MissZoei
      @MissZoei 10 місяців тому +1

I disagree on this one - I have extremely fine hair (just a lot of it), and dry hair shampoo works really well for me. I wash my hair once a week/week and a half, and one application of dry hair shampoo lets me extend for another half a week.

Hi, a cool idea for decluttering - take a picture of all the things you decluttered and keep them in your phone. Next time you feel like just buying whatever they can help to prevent from buying excessive things. I mostly have pics of skincare and old makeup I got rid of, I also have a pic of assortment of things I do use and love, my basics and staples. This gallery helps me to stop impulsive shopping . Hope someone finds this tip helpful :)

What a great video! I have not purchased any makeup for the past few years... trying to finish what I have and only buying what I truly need for skincare. Then I tried counting all the lipsticks/eyeshadows/blushes that I have and calculated how much the entire collection cost me. It was depressing! Wasted money! I could have re-decorated my living room including new furniture!
Save your money everyone! Thank you again for the great video! 💖💖💖💖

A breath of fresh air. I love your sensibility and wisdom. We are up to our eyeballs in consumerism. We can only wear/use so much products on a daily. If a skincare routine is working, or even your tanning routine, why do we change it 🤷‍♀️. How many mascaras can we even have, they dry up.

My FAVORITE trend, love that you shared this!! I saw an article recently saying that women make up 80% of consumer spending (this may just be in the US?) and it made me feel kind of manipulated and taken advantage of AND made me aware of the massive environmental impact women may have because of our consumption and spending!! So I’m trying to cut back my own consumption, definitely with beauty products ( like skincare, I don’t need a 7 step routine, and also with dry shampoo!)

I’m 68 and I was shocked to see all the products you young people use on your face. We basically used Ponds Cold Cream for everything; moisturizer and remove makeup, Revlon everything, Maybelline mascara or Cover Girl eye shadows. And all these makeup brushes and sponges, we used our fingers. I stopped trying different products too and I’m happier (so is my wallet), and my bathroom is not cluttered anymore with products I no longer use. I found a good neck cream, moisturizer and under eye cream I like. The end and amen.

2:09 "It might be someone's first time purchasing their first beauty product ever!" True. I never used makeup until I had chemotherapy and radiation. My eyebrows vanished and I learned how to redraw them. As a brunette, I'd never before had to do anything to my brows except pluck them. Since then I learned lots about how to apply makeup from UA-cam MUAs. Thank you to all of them.

I heard every word you said but also on the background I couldn't stop thinking "Gosh, you are so beautiful!". Thank you for this content, it is very refreshing to look at our collection and assess in a healthy way "Do I really need all that?". I'd be curious to try living without an eyeshadow primer, haven't given this one a try yet! :D What I noticed for myself as a redundant category - setting sprays. I have somewhat oily skin and I thought it's a must for me, but then I noticed (I don't pack too much when travelling) that my skin oils just as fast with or without and a simple powder touch-up fixes the issue during the day. I only keep a small bottle to wet sparkly eyeshadows if I want to use them as a liner, but won't be re-filling.

I found myself nodding along to everything except the dry shampoo. If I don't use that I literally have to wash my hair every day and I just can't be bothered. Also, when I use it too often I get a slightly itchy scalp, too, but I think that's just because there's too much build-up and not washing your scalp enough can do that even without the dry shampoo, at least if you have oily skin.

I've never been a big fan of face and cheek palettes because most of the time I can only use like one or two shades out of it. I haven't bought any pf them myself but since I am subscribed to Boxycharm by Ipsy sometimes I will get them in my box. I stopped getting dry shampoo because I couldn't find one that actually worked for my extremely oily hair. I think I might be cutting out lip scrubs and eyeshadow primers after I finish what I have. I don't feel like I need a lip scrub because I don't ever really get dry lips and as for eyeshadow primers I don't know if I am doing something wrong with them but when I wear them it makes my eyeshadow skip.

It took me awhile to stop listening to all of the hair influencers passing juedgement on how and when to wash your hair. I've come to realize that I need to do what's right for me and my life. It works better for me to wash my hair instead of adding these extra products intended to remove oil.

I recommend trying crystal deodorant. I didn't think it worked for me at first until I learned to do it right. Right after a shower after you dry off, ncluding your armpits, you run cold water over the crystal, put it on and repeat on the same armpit around 4 times or so, then do the same on the other. It is scent free and odorless and hopefully a lot healthier than deodorants because who knows if they can contribute to who knows what kind of health issues, especially to parts close to the pits. I've heard of using organic lemon too. Some say it works for days.

I usually keep my beauty routine pretty minimal, but i did stop using dry shampoo about a year ago after using it for about 10 years straight! My hair and scalp were in a really bad place a year ago with severe itchiness, redness/irritation, and hair breaking or falling out. I really had to simplify my hair and scalp care, including cutting out dry shampoo cold turkey, and my hair and scalp are so much happier and healthier now. On the other hand, i am running out of my beloved tinted nars eyeshadow primer, which is discontinued, and i just can't give it up! I have very discolored eyelids and that is the perfect eye base for me as it is thin but sticky enough to be comfortable and not crease my eyeshadow, and the tint really helps to color correct my discolored eyelids so that they match the color of the rest of my face. I'd buy the nars tinted eyeshadow primer 50 more times if it wasn't discontinued 🫠

Agree with every word!Came to this conclusion as well. Also not buying another red lipstick anymore. I have tones now. And it can also double up as blush and lip tint and light wash of colour on the corner of the eye.

I would LOVE to use my consealer as an eyelid primer, but since I got hooded oily lids, there is no way I can do that, even if I set it with powder before applying eyeshadow. So a good primer plus powder is an absolutely must if the eyeshadow is to stay put.

Yes! I’m constantly decluttering makeup and giving to family because I literally have so much that will not end up getting used. I’ve been definitely on a “project pan” lately. Anything I’m almost out of I’ve put into one makeup bag and I will use those products until they are DONE. Then add more as I go along.

For lip exfoliation I just brush them with a toothbrush… it’s my last step after each morning and evening brush.
Also, i have dark brown hair… I use dry shampoo I let it sit for a few and then i blow dry off… it’s perfect using the brush and blow dry no white and feels much better

Agree with the natural deodorant. Either it never works or only works for a short period before your body just says no.
Also eye palettes, I just buy the shades I use at Mac or use bronzer/blush

I managed to make it work. I found if I was going back and forth between natural and not it wasn’t working. Then I read your armpits actually need to detox that old deodorant gunk, not sure if thats true but after a bit of time it started working almost just as well. Before I’d be stinky in a few hours, now I can get through a day and feel confident.

I have also been using less and less dry shampoo. It makes my scalp itchy too! And the less I use, the less I need, if that makes sense. I find using a small bit when my hair is clean, keeps it cleaner longer. But I use very little. I used to go crazy w it, and daily!

I’m planning on doing a no buy/low buy next year so this was helpful to get some ideas about things to include!! I 100% agree about the lip exfoliant… bought a little thing pre-wedding and honestly it has not done anything more than light scrubbing with a washcloth would have. It’s so nice to have a less cluttered bathroom cabinet and simplified routine!

It happened to me during the transition between summer and fall, somehow something switched in me and I threw out many things that I would only keep because I bought them (but rarely used and ultimately expired🤷🏻‍♀️). Felt a little like shedding old skin, really refreshing. Also just like Lan said, most of us have probably by now gained a sense of what they need and want and THAT makes it so much easier to shop or not to!

OK hear me out on self tanner… my favorite is from the b.tan line at Walmart of all places. I get the shade “I want to be the darkest tan possible”, and it’s honestly not the darkest tan ever. It’s very olive based, and doesn’t leave any smell to me at all. It’s technically a 2 hour express and but I always leave it on overnight. The best part is it’s only $10, so not a big investment to try! I’ve seriously tried every self tanner for the winter months and this is my favorite. Also hot tip… get latex / vinyl gloves to apply your tan! Zero dorito hands and you use way less product because it doesn’t soak it up as you’re applying. But I do love the more mindful spending and hearing thoughts about what others aren’t buying… it’s nice to realize that you’re not alone in your thoughts.
