Jeff Parker in the house! His new live album is great.
I have no words to express how beautiful Makaya's music is. He is a true treasure for these times.
No question one of the finest Jazz artists on this big ole blue rock right now
Makaya wandered into my practice room, or vice versa (can’t remember which), while we were both studying music at UMass. I wasn’t a jazz kid but we talked music and jammed a bit. Gracious dude and amazing musician.
Almost by accident I discovered Makaya. I was working on a website dedicated to Blue Note, and while working on this I was listening to a Spotify playlist from this same label, where Makaya appeared with the album "DECIPHERING THE MESSAGE". Man, only a few musicians have surprised me as much as Makaya did when I first heard it.

De’Sean is the smoothest mf i have ever seen play an instrument. Dripping in golden silk that man lives in the eternal
In These Times - probably my favorite album for 2022 🥂
One of the best parts about living in Chicago is that Makaya plays tons of shows here (almost always with Junius Paul). I've been to tons of his shows, and I got to tell you, it's always, always, ALWAYS fire! The energy is always INSANE!
that's awesome ya i was just thinking of nate smith and marcus gilmore - makaya is right there! oh i have to make room in my heart for another drummer. like that's any effort! Man i never heard Makaya before now. what a band too!
honest question: I'm not a deep jazz head but i keep my ear out - there's a thing tho right? Where fantastic drummers are becoming the band leads? The band names? i've seen that a little. maybe bc i focus on drummers but ya
@@clumsiii A lot of drummers are definitely getting their flowers nowadays. Chris Dave, JD Beck, Makaya Mccraven, etc. I think we're just in an era where jazz-heads really appreciate the pocket, and when it comes to the pocket, drums are king.
@@superbide nice! thanks for the leads - rabbithole: GO
i may not be a jazz head but i love music especially drums and percussion - and international. and vocal harmonies from around the world and and and
I saw Makaya and the band he assembled for the release show of this record at Green Mill! And WOW. What a performance! I got almost stoned off the music, it was so fantastic. That hadn't happened to me since I was in high school.
🎧 🎶 😊👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I wish music like this would be more popular these days...
the good stuff of humanity. thank you!

What an amazing performance by all…keep coming back.
Anton Newcombe played Runnin' by Makaya McCraven & Gil Scot Heron on his radio show last year and now I'm here.
That bass is so nice
Saw him in Cologne, Germany a month ago in a relatively small venue. Everyone standing, vibing, it was such a great electrifying show
Which venue was it?
Amazing🤗
solid!
sublime..Alice Coletrane spirits ...thank you all
This is the shit. Makaya over and over and over.
I didn't know him until I saw him last month in Amsterdam - the concert was unbelievable. Been listening to In These Times ever since
He has tons of great releases; also check out his collaborators, the musicians that plays on them ~
Junius Paul so smooth
Wow wow wooooooow 🤯🤯🤯
Yeah Makaya! 413 represent.
I'm amazed that music like this can be composed.
Not sure I can like this enough. Wow.
great band and great sound as usual, thank you KEXP
I assume I'm an old and outdated man, but not since Chris Dave and the Drumhedz have I enjoyed such a marvel. Exceptionally good music and musicians. This is my best end of the year selfie, 5 hours away from the start of 2023 in Argentina. Thank you very much KEXP
Wow
This is some beautiful stuff
Ended up missing tha 2022 version...damn, was trying to buy all that vinyl!!
That second track is out of this world. Amazing!
This is excellent! Played a couple gigs with his Dad and I remember him as a youngster.
Hope these guys get to play in Philly area. This is so friggin good.
Love it. Class expression without overstating - they do it well!
This Just poped up on my page, what a treat. YT knows me so well.
I went and saw him that night at Nectar, he was fantastic, along w/ Theon Cross' opening set
The performances, the sound engineering, all of it is just phenomonal! Thank you KEXP!
That's magical.
Soooo good, I love this...
Those swelling sustained chords Parker is playing around 24:00 are wonderful...
lizard brain sees a drummer in the thumbnail and I click
incredible
Absolutely fantastic! Bravo 👏
What an awesome performance. Can't wait to dig in Makaya's album.
And... we're back to the golden days of drumming
Trying not to play this on an endless loop. Just don't wanna leave the groove. Fabulous stuff fellas. Can't wait to see it leave.
amazing!
This is phenomenal.
Really solid, sweet playing all around. Sonically, I don't think I have ever heard the bass tones coming from the electronic wind instrument - fantastic!
Great band nice music
Thanks for the message 🙏
This performance has altered my brain chemistry in the best way possible. Time to be hyper fixated on this for weeks 😂
I had exactly the same reaction but I used some jazz cabbage to enhance .
Fucking insane levels of musicianship!
Fantastic Band !!!! Happy new year KEXP !!! amazing work, once again beautiful music ...
This is incredible.
Holy shit this was amazing!!!
This is amazing.
All time performance
Big music!!!
A gift to take us out to celestial beat spheres. THANK YOU

Esta bien bueno esto. Montros🔥🔥🔥🔥✌🏽🇩🇴
Fantastique ! Un groove extraordinaire. Cette formation est excellente. Percussions et sax et guitare stupéfiants 👍
A música mais linda do universo! Vocês tocam muito, mesmo! 💖
I had to miss the show for this tour , KEXP production team is probably the second best thing in leu of that. Thanks for this, surprised to see them on here, but glad it happened as it surpassed my expectations. Interesting to see how the arrangements from the album were pulled off live, and with Mr. Parker nonetheless!
🎶 ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ 🎶
music is not mine. you, guys, really high
respect
Thanks! :D Tinja&Markku
👍🏿👍🏿
Probably the most creative drummer I've ever had the pleasure of seeing live.
@The Breakfast Menu - No disrespect. But thinking that you may need to get out a tad more then. Just sayin.’
Come back to Minneapolis!
FOCK NICE!
Just saw him in Toronto - electric performance

enfin de l’intelligence , remarquable!

Jeff Parker brought some Funkadelic feel, or, Eddie Hazel @10:43

🎶🎶🎼🎼👌👌✨✨💎💎💎💎💎💎🌤🌤🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
a musical outburst that stretches its space time
It's awesome! я просто охуел в хорошем смысле. You guys are music gods!
This guy definitely ran with Thaddeus Finks
Yussef Dayes drums?
whats first song name ?
My guitar solos sound exactly the same, except, those dissonant odd time notes I hit aren't done on purpose.
Haha I feel this way every time I listen to Jeff Parker/Tortoise. "I can play like that!"... I can't play like that.
controlled violence
I don't think I've seen an EWI since Brecker.
Maybe I need to get out more...
Sembrano gli Arsenale di Maltese
Very Ralph MacDonald….tasteful!
Fantastic drumming. Way looser arrangements than the album. Great fun!
lol i have never heard this band before, I came here to say that the drummer is the clear star. little did i know it's his band. clearly the best musician. deserves a better band. Disclaimer: This opinion is only based on a viewing of this video.
The drum sounds far away :/
Jeez, drum mix is too damn loud!
The engineer didn't make a mistake, it's the aesthetic. It may not be for everybody, but some people like it like that. You find an extra-loud drum in boom bap and lofi hip hop as well.
I like it this way.
Well,it is the drummer's band after all.
This drummer knows what's best for us lol
Damn 🤑🤑🤑🤑
