Whenever they play games, I notice that there's always good results when Eddy's giving direction and Brett executes them. Eddy's really creative while Brett's a good interpreter of what he wants done. I was guffawing at the jaws bit 🤣🤣

Some times when I've busked, people have given me money while I'm still setting up, before I even start tuning.
A friend of mine and I used to busk in college. We played WF Bach Viola duos, some Renaissance dance music, and anything we could find which was written for two violas or could be arranged for two violas. It was quite lucrative. Hamming it up always brought in more money, and acknowledging people whether they were putting money in the case, or just making eye contact as they walked by also seemed to be good practice. A little nod of the head, or a "thank you" when money goes in the case always seems appreciated, and will sometimes earn repeat contributions. We made enough money in one week of busking in the evening to pay for our books for the whole semester. In addition to that, it was a heck of a lot of fun! On our last day out we put up a sign which said, "No contributions please. This is our departing thank you concert." We had lots of people who stopped, listened and watched, then thanked us roundly before they left. I went on to a career with a major historically informed English chamber orchestra, but I kept a little place in my heart for those busking days.
If you can find a safe place to try it, then do it! It's fun.
By far the biggest hurdle is getting out there. As a sort of experiment as well as mercenary reasons I busked 3 early evenings a week, so 6 hours a week, outside a Whole Foods. It's tricky saying "thank you" when you've got trumpet stuffed on your face, but I found I could always nod, show my thanks in my playing some little way, etc. And often as not I wasn't blowing a note and would just say "thank you" verbally.
The standards in busking are so low, that even I got tons and tons of thanks, like I was doing some kind of a public service or something. People absolutely adore an instrument that takes "work" like a trumpet or anything in the string family. Yet another guy with a scratchy voice and a guitar ehhhh, not so much.
Lately buskers have become super-rare so the "field" is wide open. I swear I seem to be the only one in my city of over a million. I think there are actually 1-2 more but that's how thin we're spread these days and I'm taking the next couple of months off so ... the field's wide open.

Such a great story, thanks for sharing! I busked briefly with some friends for a few weekends and it was a blast, and SUCH hard work. Nothing but respect for street performers I always tip them when I can.

It always becomes obvious at videos where they interact with strangers. Here at second half it seems that Eddy is more stressed and embarrased than Brett, who does not care and almost looks like he enjoys that, lol.
Like in their Insta stories when they announce something, it's usually Eddy talking, I wonder why :P

@@kris_pang not explicitly I guess but in some way definitely. Look at how Eddy feels about/performs his tasks (and Brett's) vs how Brett performs his tasks. They're both doing embarrassing dares but Brett is taking to it with more ease and Eddy is cringing himself in half.

This is so funny! Yes, getting tipped for warming up is a thing. Also getting tips because people just missed you, in other words, you're just setting up and they don't have the time to stay around, or you're just packing things up because you've just stopped playing. Legend has it there's a saxophone player in NYC who never actually plays, just continually sets up and breaks down ... and makes good money doing it.
