The OAVs are so much better than the 2015 series, except for the characterization of Etoille/Ester. I first watched them back in the 1990s. And I hate it that in the new version, Silvermask is basically just a cape twirling villain. Here, he is 3 dimensional and sympathetic.
It's interesting to see the character design differences (particularly with Darun's eyes) from just episode 1 to episode 2. It's subtle enough that it doesn't seem like a totally different anime but also a little strange.
Truth be told, I would liked to seen the reunion between Hilmes and Bahman in the new Legend of Arslan anime. Their reunion is the manga, but not in the new Legend of Arslan anime, I wonder why they didn't animate it.
I feel like this episode is a downgrade from the previous one; the animation is noticeably janky, and the storytelling is rather disjointed and off-paced.

荒川弘先生の作品は大好きだけど、アルスラーン戦記はやっぱり神村幸子さんのキャラデザ個人的に激ツボ。特にアルスラーンとダリューンのキャラデザ秀逸すぎる。TV版申し訳ないけどキャラデザ解釈が受け入れられなくて視聴できなかった…残念。
