Engineering is a diverse profession that branches out into every industry that makes our world go round. For a high school student wanting to get into engineering, the choices can be rather daunting. While there is certainly the ability to change your mind later, picking the right degree from the get-go is always better. From electrical to civil engineering, every branch has subsets of technology that you can focus on.
The key is finding which degree path you want so that when it comes time to find a job, you can find something that you want to do with your life. Let’s take a look at the various choices you have for engineering education.

While interesting, an arc reactor defies logic and all fundamentals of engineering. Good luck though

Overall good video, but the content on chemical engineering is misleading. Chemical engineering is much more focused on upscaling and fine tuning large scale chemical processes than developing new chemicals. Development is more likely to be a chemist. The courses are more focused on thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and chemical kinetics.
100% true. What is described in the video really is more what a chemist would do. While a chemical engineer is really the up scaling of the chemical process

Agreed. I work as a R&D chemical engineer like the video described, but its a bit more a niche field.
See in school they only told us about chemical Engineering and they made it sound super boring just over watching screens in a plant. Like your Homer Simon but I was always interested in the other paths of engineering. Im glad I found this video.

Dear Future Engineers,
This video is somewhat misleading. It pigeonholes specific degrees to specific industries. Once you have earned your ABET accredited engineering degree, you'll find there are many different industries where your knowledge is wanted/needed. I have a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, yet I work in the aerospace industry.
Wished this video was created 2 years back. There are a lot more different kinds of engineering, if anyone is actually looking for different kinds of engineering this video only focuses on the more common ones, do your own research. But great video overall 👍. Keep it up, let's go for 50k Subs.

@@spyrobandicoot3810 You mean the different kinds of Engineering? There are many different kinds of engineering (the ones in the video are more common which grants you the ability to enter a range of different career path), There are so much more but they're a little more specific, if you pick those, that means you've a pretty good idea on what you want to do as your future career. An example would be Renewable Energy Engineering, if you go for that you'll most likely enter a field of innovating or even creating new and sustainable ways of generating power (this is just a general description of it, search it up if you're interested).
so if you want to go into something that deals with the environment and they don’t offer the major of environmental engineering should you just choose civil engineering to major in?
@@zenaigonzalez435 Well, to be honest, I don't know much, not an expert, but civil engineering could branch out/ relate to environmental engineering a little bit, as you could do something related to building waterways or infrastructures like dams and etc. Although they branch out later on as one focuses on infrastructure while Environmental Engineering is more specific in terms of the chemical and biological. That's all I know. :D
The median pay is low. Key is to get your engineering degree then transition to sales.

I was surprised to learn that engineering students have to work FAR HARDER and for longer hours than students studying for other degrees . They REALLY have to work at it , just saying . My brother is at university and knows engineering students there . Its no easy degree .
Where’d you get your info on the median salary? Electrical engineers median salary is more than mechanical and civil engineering.
The salaries are all misleading in the sense that they are all median salaries.
The highest paid engineers today are software engineers, electrical engineers and biotechnical engineers. But these facts are not based on the median salaries.
There are a lot of people working in software and electronics and thus the median go down in comparison to Mechanical and Civil engineers

chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, industrial & in some cases economic this can fall under industrial.
I have a question for anyone with experience in both mechanical and electrical engineering. I have interest in bits of both fields and am curious, would the study of mechanical engineering allow for a more intuitive understanding of electrical engineering? Like is there enough cross-over between the two fields to merit major study in both? My hope is that diving into mechanical engineering first would give me a well-rounded base for which to begin furthering my understanding of the electrical side of things. Is this a faulty assumption? Or is it worth it to know both?
Also, would working with robotics inherently utilize a mixture of knowledge from both fields? Because that is also something I find interesting and it would be a bonus to know I'd automatically be potent in the field having studied the other fields.

Trust me, doing mechanical engineering doesn’t help at all for electrical engineering. I did a first year intro course into electrical engineering and ever since then, I haven’t touched any of the concepts since(I study mechanical engineering). I suggest you do mechatronic engineering. It’s basically an amalgamation of the two fields

Better to choose mechatronics for masters rather than as a major.
Civil isn't the oldest engineering but MECHANICAL ENGINEERING.
I was planning on majoring in chemical engineering, but im doubting if it’s still valid and demanded for the future, and which one is better ChemE or ChemE technology ?
Chemical engineering is very in-demand, nearly every product today requires some sort of chemical engineer/chemist to make it. That said, chemistry is it's own beast, so definitely ensure you enjoy and like it before you invest time in it. Chemical engineering and chemical engineering technology are very similar, but generally technology degrees are less math and a little bit more focused on application. In the field, the normal ChemE degree is probably more valuable if you can get it, but there's plent of jobs available for a tech degree too.

It depends on how much work you’re willing to put in studying. Engineering isn’t really about being smart, it’s about willingness and ability to learn
@@ConcerningReality thank you. A friend of mine that is graduated as one said the same. Do you think working 30 to 40 hours a week is possible while in school or no?
@@AndrewJPlays It's possible, but you might want to plan on a lighter course load. I worked 25 hours a week while doing a civil engineering degree and survived. That can all be made more stressful though if you have scholarships that are GPA dependent, so something to consider.

Eh, you don’t need to know that early. Just get a mechanical degree and decide when it comes time to find jobs. I went civil engineering and now work in a completely different engineering industry. ✌️
