- I am sharing my Maxpedition Tool Kit. This is NOT a car repair kit nor is it a survival kit. It is a small kit with limited space mostly comprising of micro tools. It is not for the minimalist. This kit is only for mending things and making minor repairs. This configuration is not for everyone, nor is it designed for big repairs. It is designed for perhaps working on a fishing reel, crossbow, scope rings, swivels, sling, portable gas stove, tent, tarp, canopy, backpack, luggage, coats, boots, snowshoes, computer case, tripod, headlamp, holster, rifle rest, sled, harness, bike rack, locks, goggles, assembling gear, etc... It is not something I would carry in a backpack. It is obviously too big, bulky and heavy. It rides best in a truck or boat. It is EDC from the sense of vehicle carry only. A smaller kit can be customized for a snowmobile, ATV, motorcycle, boat or aircraft. There are a million and one tools out there and I’m sure the kit you build will be the right one for you. Yes, I agree, I should know them in my head, but unfortunately I’m not perfect and I still use a calculator and sticky notes from time to time. The issue is when people get stressed in an evacuation situation they sometimes tend to forget simple things like leaving a note behind, turning off the gas or grabbing their medication. This is why pilots with 30 years of experience still use check lists. If someone is hungry, stressed and exhausted, the problem is compounded even more. Enjoy the fall:)

Outstanding ! Excellent video and kudos for the itemized information. My take is that you need to carry whatever will allow you to get multiple UNEXPECTED repairs done. Given the number of items I would image that additions are all replacements. Even so, I would consider some electrical tape, graphite lubricant, small sized multimeter or circuit test pen, wire, military grade parachute rubber bands, wire tooth brush, plastic bags and several types of resin based glues with a drying clap.

You've built a great kit and I got a number of great ideas from your video. I'd like to suggest a Leatherman Wave, Charge (AL, ALX or TTi) to replace the following to save you weight. Scissors, eyeglass screwdriver, driver bits, saw, file and more. I carry a Leatherman Charge TTi and a Led Lenser M3R flashlight (220 lumen rechargeable AAA or Alkaline AAA ) to reduce weight and expand my sight field. Absolutely superior to the Streamlight flashlight.

Good job on the kit. It is obviously an EDC tool kit, not a survival kit. I agree with a previous post that you can eliminate about 30% of your tools with a Leatherman wave multi-tool and bit-kit. A leatherman has a lifetime warranty as well.
Just like to start off by saying I LOVE your videos, I've given ALL of them a look and they have helped with my b.o.b. and e.d.c. as well. One thing that I've noticed in most every e.d.c. video on youtube is everyone carries the "write in the rain" notebook, but nobody addresses the fact that it can be your lifeline. I for one use a few pages in the back to write very important info for myself in case of emergencies, writing things like your medical info blood type, allergies, etc. could save your life if hurt and unable to communicate, contact info for first responders (basic of course) is vital. also I have in mine local plants and edibles with drawings of them, locations in my area i know of, trap designs, bugout plans and maps,paracord braid designs, known animal locations and the propper way to skin and process the meat of said animal, complete breakdowns of my firearms and locations of parts, etc. anything that can help you in a crisis when under stress works and is an invaluable tool to have stored, only takes up a few pages in the back and takes no more room for possible life saving information. Hope this advice helps you guys and once again thanks for the awesome videos!

Just a little tip on that zebra F701, you can use a space pen refill in it and you have a nice space pen for about $16. Only mod to the pen is taking out the plastic sleeve in the tip of the pen.

Hi Dreamhawke, they can be a bit difficult to acquire. I’ve only seen them on Survival Resources for $16.95. You can find a cheaper substitute at ACE or True Value hardware stores. These are plastic oil pens (Super Tube) and not as nice as the stainless steel Micro Drop Pinpoint Oiler, but will basically do the same thing. I prefer the micro oil pen over Rem Wipes, because I can place a precise drop of oil exactly where I want it. Moreover, it is refillable and will probably last a lifetime.

Actually, I have done a lot of precision work. Theres not even a pair of cutters, needle nose or strippers in your kit. You clearly enjoy collecting widgits.

A tool you really should add is a Knipex. It will be the most versatile tool in your kit.
They're made in Germany and are rather expensive but once you own one you're hooked.
I suggest the Knipex 7-Inch Pliers Wrench its a awesome tool.

Hello IIIottoIII, I am very familiar with Knipex. They are premium cutters. I have a pair of Knipex bolt cutters as part of my 72-hour tool kit. They will go through 8 gauge commercial grade fence, the top guard and concertina wire too. The con is they are heavy and like you said, expensive. Nothing in their line is cheap, but like with most things, you get what you pay for. I will do a review of my 72-hour tool kit one day. Thanks.

It *WILL* fit in a cargo pocket if it is a well built cargo, or better yet BDU pant. I used to carry 2 liter bottle of soda in my BDU pants all the time, so I think that will fit without a problem.

Hi djrn2005, the fixed blades that I showed in the video were the Bark River Pocket Bravo for about $123 and Bark River Personal Survival Knife (PSK) for about $130. Both are tough little fixed blades for someone looking for a compact knife. Another good option is the Bark River Emergency Preparedness Knife (EPK) for about $83. The EPK is the smallest of the three. All can be obtained online by searching the web for Bark River distributors. Enjoy.

Hi Joe Smith, you are correct. I did convert my Maxpedition Fatty into a range bag. It is a basic set up consisting of the usual suspects. It contains an HK tool, Swiss Army knife, Pocket Gunsmith tool, one miniature allen wrench for adjusting laser sights, chamber safety flag, Choke wrench, Cabela’s boresighter, duct tape, telescoping magnet, Q-tips, Swarovski lens cleaners, hex wrench, small hank of 550 cord, extra staples for my staple gun, oil pen, Microstream flashlight, Nikon Lens Pen, red and black Sharpie marker for scoring targets, ear plugs, batteries (AAA and CR123), Loctite, 6 inch plastic ruler, whistle, small magnifier, Micro SD cards, small hemostats for changing SD cards in my Bino’s, patches and part of an Otis cleaning kit. I’m sure I have a few other knickknacks, but that’s the bulk of it. Enjoy.

The pivoting t-handled driver is simply called the T-driver. It costs $14.95. The other one that looks like a blue clip-on pen is called the Miniature Screwdriver Set. This one comes with 5 different screwdrivers and cost $16.95. The larger blue tool is actually a file set. It’s called the Large Needle File Set and comes with 6 files and costs $14.95. The grappling hook shown in the video is the Micro Grappling Hook by Maratac. Caution: this thing is not designed for any type of climbing. It is only designed to retrieve small items or to start a rope lead or hang food from a tree. Also, please use caution around any electrical wires. This thing has a tendency to grab onto almost anything. This can be both good and bad. I have used it to retrieve decoys, ducks and geese, as well as to lower items from my tree stand. Happy Trails!
that's a grate portable tool kit.........i wouldn't call it an EDC i would class this as a tool kit for the car or for when you have to go somewhere to fix something and you don't need or want to carry a tool box.

Hi, I have a detailed write up of the items listed within the description section. Like most people, I also have full size tools for tackling large repairs, but for small items, gear and equipment this kit can be very handy. If I had to do it over again, I would include more tools for working on firearms, watches, replacing watch batteries or bands, repairing eyeglasses, smartphones
and other electronics. I’m also thinking of adding a small soldering tool to the kit to make it more complete. Perhaps a MagTorch Micro Flame Pro, Dremel Versatip or Bernzomatic Micro Torch. Respectfully

Hi lillriko, Survival Resources carries the T-handle screwdriver as well as the stainless steel Sharpie. Some office supply stores like Staples also carry the stainless steel Sharpie.
If I'm not mistaken I believe the pocket in the name refers to pack pockets more so than pants, at least as far as I understand it.

Hi johnenapier, if you are referring to the small stainless steel vial, it can be obtained from Survival Resources. I use it to store assorted sewing needles. It is called the Stainless Screw Top Vial and cost about $5.50. It measures 3 ¼ inches in length and the diameter is about 3/8 of an inch. See my write-up in the description section. Thanks.

Great kit, but do all the MICRO tools come in handy often? Just curious as compared to a few normal sized tools? Just me personally I rarely would ever need micro tools on a weekly basis. Nice video!

if you haven't replaced the ratchet yet. look at the Chapman mfg midget ratchet. I've heard good things about them. They're inexpensive(somewhere between $5 and $10) and made in the US

I am surprised that you don't have a tactical ink pen in that kit to break glass, and for self defense. That is one item everyone needs in case of emergency when going to or leaving home on short trips.

Just put up a quick video on my channel for a how to on the Zebra F-701 to space pen conversion. Turns out that it's actually about $13.50 to make the thing. Way cheaper than any of the metal space pens.
buddy you have taken EDC to the nith degree its a great effort but my advice to you is what ever survival situation you are in hide under a tarp when ever you pull something out cause the way the world is today some punk will knock you out and swipe that $600 bag.

would I ever be caught underneath a tarp with it. My survival system is entirely
different and much more comprehensive and will address criminal activity quite

Right now the EDC Beefy Pocket Organizer is $32.99 (and if you buy 2 you get a BOGO deal!) ! What I simply cannot fathom is how everybody on YT seems to have a perpetual erection (lasting more than four hours apparently!) over Malcolm's (Hidden Woodsmen) Survival kit pouch at TWICE THE PRICE! THe only difference I see is Malcolm's use of orange fabric to line the inside with. THAT'S IT though! What am I missing here?

I’ve seen them at a few online stores. Survival Resources carries them. If you know how to tie a Clinch knot, Palomar knot and a Uni-Knot, you should be good for fishing. They are super easy. I don’t use the fishing cards but I do reference the Pro-Knots cards from time to time. They are also good for drawing a straight line and taking small measurements. Enjoy.

It's a nice edc but, in my opinion it's unimportant to have that many pens in your edc, i only have one pen in my edc, but it's cool, what ever float's your boat

The larger folding saw that you have in your kit - where did you get that from?
Also, is it like a hacksaw and can cut through metal or just for cutting wood/plastic?

Those little tiny saws can for found at Survival Resources, Going Gear and County Comm. You can also find them on Amazon. There are inexpensive and come in handy for cutting bone, wood or plastic. Caution, the blade does not lock in place. Thanks.
