I was recently considering moving to Belmont, but found out that Belmont has a high risk for flooding. With the climate change, I don’t want to take the risk.
While it does sit on the Catawba river, the only areas that are at risk for flooding are the spots right on the river, the rest of the area is quite hilly and at higher ground, so the town has very low risk for flooding. In addition, the waterway is controlled by Duke energy who controls the flow and river height with dams, so the rivers height has not changed at all in the last 60 years nor will it. Hope this helps
If you Google flood rating, you will see. In 1916, there was a huge flood almost the entire Belmont was affected. They say the 100 year flood can happen again.
@@SiriusGoddess555 I would say that would be true IF there hadnt been major changes to the area. In the 1970s a series of dams were installed for the Duke Energy power plants. Not only do these damns help maintain the power plants and produce energy, they also control the flow of water down the Catawba river. IN fact when rain is expected, the dams will be open a bit more to release excess water from Lake Norman to allow for the run off thereby controlling the flow and eliminating the risk of flooding ;)
Technically higher in Charlotte b/c it's the city so you have city and county taxes. Belmont is less.... but we are talking about a few dollars nothing major
@@livingincharlottenorthcarolina this is TJ from Dom's wedding. The TJ that sat in the Airport lounge with you and your husband for hours trying to get back to CLT lol
Traffic is horrible. Taxes are horrible. Crime is increasing. Apartments everywhere! Litter all over the place. Used to be a wonderful place- quality of life declining due to unchecked growth. Sad sad sad.

@user-qv3yo2ui7g hahaha well hey you!!! Sorry couldn't figure it out from your profile pic. O what a flight that was 🤦♀️
Too long and cloudy outside, not good.
I try to control the weather, but sadly not successful so far. NC has more sunny days than most of the US :)

Hmm I haven't noticed any of this here. It's still really pretty. Growth is always a good thing, but comes with growing pains for sure
lived here all my life.. growth is good for your pocketbook- but not our quality of life@@livingincharlottenorthcarolina
