    Ordered some hunks for my stripped out TRX4 sport with 3d printed foams. They were on sale on amain for 21 a pair and the other good choices were out of stock.
    The hunks have a pretty unexciting pattern, which probably wasn't helping them sell, but its got nice big lugs that aren't going to fold and decent spacing between them so the square edges get some chances to bite. The pattern does make a lot of sense for a crawler where you really aren't trying to fling dirt. You good words toward them sealed the deal, excited to try them out!

    J concepts landmines are good . I like the tusk not sure about hunks . We'll get to see how they do now . Proline hyrax has been a great tire . Tusk and those wheels look awesome on Phoenix .

      I've been trying to get a set of Landmines for months, they always seem to be out of stock. I'm lucky I bought the Tusks when I did, they seem to have gone out of stock as well.

      Everything that's any good is about impossible to get anymore it seems like . I have found a few things but going on Google and put in what I'm looking for . I e bought a lot of stuff from different hobby shops when I can't find it . I like the ones you got tho . Look nice on the Phoenix also . 🤟

    Jconcepts always makes great tires. I've been using them since my racing days. I use Bounty Hunters on my TF2 and Scorpios have been one of my go to tires for years.

    Glad to see a side x side comparison of the two new tires. I have had success with my Landmines so it’s nice to see JC come out with some other good options.👍

    My “soft and supple Hunks” will be in my hands in a few days. Thanks for the video man! I ran scorpios years ago and was blown away myself.

    Great test. I'll go for the Tusk's on my Ecto as I think they'll cope better when it gets dirty and muddy. Just got to wait for someone to have stock in the UK

      So far my 2 favorites on my Ecto are the Hyrax and the Proline Trenchers, especially for rocks and concrete.

    From what you have indentified, i would go with the tusk's, looks like they have a better sidewall grip then the hunk's. thanks for the review !!

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  3 роки тому +1

      Definitely better sidewall grip with the Tusks. The Hunks also load up with mud more easily than the Tusks, when I would have thought the opposite would be true. The Tusks are I think the better tire, but Lil Yella does amazing on the Hunks, thankfully.

      Hey CC , just wanted to suggest the Jconcepts JCO3053-02 Ruptures. I've used these on the Element Ecto and the Axial 4ws Capra with excellent results. Thank you.....

    Thanks for doing this video I'm enjoying your channel. I have a set of tusks on backorder for my phoenix. Do you feel the included foams offer enough support for such a heavy truck?

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  2 роки тому

      I'm still running the included JConcepts medium foams in my Tusks, and at the worst they're a =tiny= bit soft. If the gorgeous Phoenix body wasn't so heavy, those foams would probably be absolutely perfect. The only time I notice the foams is on =really=steep sidehilling, there is soft sidewall roll that could be better controlled. But I don't know if it's enough to warrant buying a whole set of new foams.

    Getting a Gatekeeper with a lexan body and it’s still on stock wheels/tires so looking to swap them first. So it’ll be close to the Ecto, so will likely order a set of Hunk’s thanks to this video. What wheels did you run? Those look like the RC4WD steelies on my SCX24’s. Also, if I’m looking to add a bit of weight, as well as slow the Gatekeeper down (Bowhouse spur gear adapter w/TLR 87t spur and 15t pinion)

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  3 роки тому +1

      The wheels are the good ol' Injora steelies, usually around $33 for a set of four, and fairly heavy at over 100g each. The rig breakdown video for Lil Yella should be up today, so you can get a closer look at the running gear.

      If it makes you feel any better, it's long since been remedied. Heck, those tires and rims aren't even on the Ecto anymore-- the tires are on a TRX-4, and the rims are currently out of service.

    Loved this video!!!! Very helpful. I was also curious, which is a better crawler in your opinion, the Phoenix or the Ecto? I’m trying to decide which to get.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  2 роки тому

      That's a tough call. Out of the box, the Phoenix is certainly more capable, but is gonna cost you about double the cost of an Ecto just to get it going-- it needs three servos and brushless is pretty much a requirement (as it only fits 540 can motors and weighs over 7lbs.) The Ecto is... okay as an RTR, but comes to life with some simple mods. In my most recent upload, the Ecto went head-to-head with the Phoenix-- but my Ecto isn't exactly 100% Ecto anymore, as it has dig and servo-on-axle.
      So I guess both. But buy the Ecto first so you have something to drive while you build and equip the Phoenix. :)

    • @warrencaron164
      @warrencaron164 2 роки тому

      @@CrawlerCanyon thanks man! Appreciate your insights! I already have servos from earlier rc’s so I just need to buy a castle system for it.

    nice. i have the tusk on my ecto, love them. Which tires you prefer of the 2?

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  3 роки тому

      While I think the Hunks are great on the Ecto, I would say I prefer the Tusks overall. Like, if I were buying another set (whenever they come back in stock) it would be Tusks.

    It's been a year any comments as to how they are doing?

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Рік тому +1

      The Tusks still stand out as one of the best all-around Class 2 tires you can buy-- and the Class 1s, despite being 3.93" instead of 4.19", are excellent as well.
      The Hunk is a tire of more limited utility, in my experience. It works better on lighter rigs, but still suffers (again, IMO) from a lack of side bite.

    • @vicc6744
      @vicc6744 Рік тому

      @@CrawlerCanyon thanks I was looking at the hyrax but they are a bit out of my budget when you include dual stage foams. These tusks seem to preform well with the foams they come with. That’s a huge plus for me. Thanks for sharing your experience and insight
