Peak brightness is sticky for me in game mode. I’ve been running at Medium with no problem but I just tested High with both a power cycle and an HDR/SDR round trip. It stayed where set. I don’t have a second input to try switching that, but I did switch to the internal apps and then back. That’s using DP, Game Mode, HDR10+ Basic & Game HDR off. If yours is resetting it might be setting dependent somehow.
Mine does it as well. Only on game mode the peak brightness resets to off Everytime and HDR/SDR doesn't toggle the brightness I set so if it's at 50 it stays that way. I just use graphics picture mode with game mode off and everything saves as it should. Though you lose vrr and 240hz with no game mode but that is not a big deal to me.
@@TonyG86I get different brightness and other settings saved in HDR/SDR but only in Eco or Standard “game genres.” For example, right now I have 20 brightness for Eco SDR and 50 brightness for Eco HDR with Peak set to Medium. That sticks switching back and forth. The other genres (including Custom, annoyingly) share settings between HDR/SDR. That’s where you get a pinned 50 for both. Aside from whether they share between HDR/SDR, I think the genres are otherwise just labeled presets-ie Eco can be totally reconfigured and on mine that’s all seemingly remembered.
@@TonyG86 it does occur to me that if y’all aren’t using Eco or Standard it might be that. Going to SDR forces Peak Brightness off, and maybe that’s turning it off for HDR as well in the other genres since they don’t use separate settings for SDR and HDR. You might try setting up Eco or Standard like you like it and see if that sticks.

But I only use it connected to my PC via HDMI but graphics picture mode works well for me. I also think dsc is disabled with game mode off because 120hz becomes the highest refresh rate after that but I'm not sure.
Disney+ only streams 720p in browsers - Desktop streaming across the board gets completely shafted for streaming quality. With this particular monitor you also get built-in AI upscaling when using the smart apps

You definitely made me happy I ordered this, getting it next week. I was worried the matte coating would ruin the picture and some reviewers are very anti-matte so lots of people put out misinformation about it. But from your review and everything I’ve seen about this Samsung Anti Glare it seems like an advancement in what we’d traditionally view as something really denigrating the overall picture. Also couldn’t turn down the deal they offered with $300 rewards and EPP pricing! Half of the cost of the Alienware! ❤
Got mine yesterday and I am very happy with it, paired with 4070 ti super and 7800x3d is just great. Now I just have to get a 5090 when it comes out haha. I got mine from bestbuy so used that 300 gift card for a stream deck plus and mic arm such a huge upgrade to my setup with it all.

Thanks for addressing all the concerns about the matte coating and QDOLED purple tint! Just ordered the G80SD. Video streaming apps don't work well on Windows so I'm really excited about the Smart TV apps + TV processor used for upscaling. It's a bit of a shame there's no KVM or USB-C PD, that would have made it the perfect multipurpose monitor imo.
@@mpa324 Most monitors that have usb support power delivery as well. So you can use one usb c cable to display your laptop on your monitor while charging.

The cleaning part is actually huge, I was a day one purchase of the alienware qd oled and aside from the packing scuffing the panels a bit, setting it up I smudged it a bit and when I went to wipe it off it got more tiny hairline scuffs. I ended up returning that one and vowed to never buy a glossy QD OLED again. I've had no issues cleaning the glossy LG OLED TVs, but the G80SD being matte is actually great for ease of cleaning.
I was literally just talking to a fellow youtube buddy of mine about that tonight. It's so nice cleaning it and not worrying about it. I scratched my alienware and msi qd oled monitors with barely wiping them with brand new micro fiber cloths.

The problem with this "glossy" coating used on most QD-OLED monitors is that it is not a true glass coating like on an LG TV, but a very fragile plastic layer. I would only buy glossy if it's actual glass.
The anti glare is really nice, it makes it to where I can have my Halloween lights on with no issues. At the time, you also couldn't update the firmware on the msi which was a nice bonus on the samsung. I also really like having a remote and a smart interface. At the end of the day, all the 4k qd oleds so far have been fantastic.
Great video man. To add to the pixelated issue you experienced, I didn’t experience exactly that, my PS5 while plugged into this monitor produced screen artifacts that resembled what happens when your GPU is failing. It wasn’t constant and it mainly happened going from PS4 Games too PS5 Games. It also happened when you’d pull up a game map or menu. Almost like the screen couldn’t handle fast changes. I didn’t experience this on my Xbox Series X however, I wasn’t able to fully recreate those exact scenarios on there so I can’t say for sure. Loading Halo Infinite also caused very minor artifacting that wasn’t necessarily super noticeable. After troubleshooting it to hell and back via different cables, screens, etc I came to the conclusion I just got a defective unit and returned it. While it worked, this was probably the best looking gaming experience I’ve ever had and my first experience with OLED. I will be getting a replacement, it was too awesome to not try again. Again awesome video man, I hope you cleared up your issue you had with the monitor.
In my geo, I can get this for the same price as the Dell AW3225QF at the introductory price. I'm thinking this monitor provides more value since it could literally be a small tv somewhere else in the house when its run its course. Biggest thing I like about the alienware is for the burn in protection. Your comments on the matte finish makes it even harder to choose vs the glossy alienware.
It essentially is a 32 inch tv honestly. Alienwares warranty is definitely killer, however I had too much bad luck getting units that were damaged out of the box.
I have been testing it with my QD-OLED SB95C TV side by side for about a day now. I thought the reflection during the day was not too bad for the TV, but after seeing the monitor I doubt I can use the TV during the day ever again. I don't really realize how bad the reflection is before this. I mean I noticed it, but it didn't bother me too much. Now it just feels so terrible. Also I'm glad that Samsung kept their smart calibration on this monitor, fairly useful. Samsung seems to heavily saturate the colors, personally I need to calibrate it down.
In my country this monitor is ~15-20% cheaper than all the other 32" 4k 240 hz OLED. In this situation would you say this is the best choice? (i would like to use it with PC)
Hdr on the G6 oled works fine on amd gpu, msi 32 oled doesnt let me use brightness and contrast adjust it locks it after hdr is on, the g80 oled doesnt let me use 240hz unless freesynce is enabled. Little things like this at 1000$ price point is a no go for me. Ill stick to the g6 oled which works excellent
I tried the C2 glossy 42 inch glass OLED TV but the lights are too bright for me. I'm sensitive. I need matte, and it's a little big. Does this monitor still have a matte appearance? which gives a "painted on the screen" effect rather than dazzling?

When using this with my elgato hd60x I haven't been able to make it look better than my 1440p lg monitor! Looks amazing on pc, xbox series x + elgato hd60x not so much!
hey again. would you recommend this monitor? I want an oled for gaming.. from what ive seen, the ASUS is the best of the 32 inch 4k oleds, however.. in the UK, the samsung is by far the cheapest.. with discounts I could get it for £745 with a free SSD. The alienware is £940, the MSI/Gigabyte/ASUS/LG are all £1299, so its a crazy difference. But the lack of a RTINGS review for this monitor worries me, and a lot of internet doomsayers saying samsung is terrible.. matte is terrible... etc
In the EU, or at least Sweden, the G8 is about €1500 with the pre-order discount, while the MSI is at almost €1700, so this was an easy choice for me. Only the Dell is cheaper here at about €1300. Only issue with the Samsung is that deliveries start in mid July. Curious if you could test if the G8 plays well with Nvidia G-sync, as it doesn't list it as officially supported. Usually it works just as well.

Yes, you can adjust peak brightness with hdr without game mode. And I agree, the g8 ultrawide oled had peak brightness in sdr when it first launched, then samsung removed it.
i saw that too.. but i think its the frame rate , G80SD got 240Hz but i dont know which monitor is over the left side and how much frame rate it got, its safe to guess that it might be higher , so no worries
Mine is working exactly like this. Leave it on, let it run on standby then it will turn off the screen after 50s. Then when you turn on your PC, it will turn on when your PC is on.
On my “old” g8 ultrawide, if you turn the monitor off manually, it won’t turn on automatically the next time you turn on your pc. You have to use the remote. If you let the monitor turn off automatically (when you turn off your pc), the it will also turn on automatically, the next time you turn on your pc.
What’s even the point of picking an OLED when a matte coating mutes and dulls the rich colors and deep blacks that OLEDs are famous for? You might as well choose an LCD, save some money, and avoid burn-in concerns. OLED gaming displays should definitely be glossy.
I bought and returned it yesterday. I was coming from the alienware ultrawide and even though that has a lower resolution than the samsung, it looked better because the matte coating really does make it look not as good. It kinda just dulls everything
I had G8 UW before this one and the coating is rlly making blacks worse for me than G8 UW. Specially if you have a lamp behind you even dimmed it makes blacks awful on G8 32. Not in the middle portion but at the edges of monitor blacks look almost like a IPS. G8 UW looks much better if you ask me. The good thing about 32 G8 if you like HDR it’s much better than G8 UW. It’s huge difference. I would return it but here in Sweden it’s so much cheaper than the rest ones so I will keep it anyway. So for the optimal picture you need pitch black room. So they could gonna with glossy anyway. Some ppl don’t notice this but we are all different 😂

One of the benefits of the smart apps is you can get 4k HDR. A lot of streaming video apps won't support more than 1080p in a browser.

I watched the whole video and I'm still not sure why you prefer the samsung over the msi. You were singing the praises of the msi in your other video.

It's really subtle, like you have to be looking for the grain to see it.

I noticed Samsung has aggressive heat pipe cooling which is suppose to have 4x better than graphene which MSI and Asus use. There's a tear down video.

Samsung certainly has its quirks, i haven't had any real issues with the monitor and the anti glare is great honestly. I like this unit a lot.

It's brighter, has better image quality since it's 4k and I prefer the aspect ratio. I think its worth it.

That's disappointing, I currently have the g8 OLED UW and preordered this. I might just cancel it, I really don't want to risk it with a bad coating.
I would still give it a shot, I'm coming from a semi glossy qd oled and I still think this monitor looks just as good.
I had G8 UW before this one and the coating is rlly making blacks worse for me than G8 UW. Specially if you have a lamp behind you even dimmed it makes blacks awful on G8 32. Not in the middle portion but at the edges of monitor blacks look almost like a IPS. G8 UW looks much better if you ask me. The good thing about 32 G8 if you like HDR it’s much better than G8 UW. It’s huge difference. I would return it but here in Sweden it’s so much cheaper than the rest ones so I will keep it anyway. So for the optimal picture you need pitch black room. So they could gonna with glossy anyway. Some ppl don’t notice this but we are all different 😂
@@PvtRinzlerI have an IPS monitor next to the Samsung and blacks definitely don't look like IPS, not even close.
