    Wow, great advices. I'm a Brasilian artist that was independent for a long time, until a major company in the US bought me and my studio. Just now I'm realizing the power of connections and building a personal brand. I was not expecting this video to be so insightful, thank you!

    What an incredible channel, Audrey. I'm working as a graphic designer in studios for around 17 years, and shortly made a transition into motion graphic and your channel is incredible. Your level is top and your didactic skills are Top5 on youtube right now. Thanks for all and all the luck!!

    Although I was looking for a video that talked about how we Music Professionals could set up our profiles and sections, some of these pointers are quite useful!

      You're so welcome! It might seem like a slow burn at first, but within your first month or two of posting thoughts and your work, searching for the right people you want to know more from, it'll be cake in no time :)

    I'm a webtoon creator and animator - everything you said was so useful. I've taken an interesting career path, doing anime conventions. I've never worked in a studio, which means I have no work experience despite having my degree. I've seen so many jobs I felt I could never apply to because I lack all the requirements (mostly art wise). So I'm making content for a portfolio and networking this year to land a job. If you have advice for artists who lack studio experience yet still have drive to work professionally how would you use LinkedIn as a tool to market yourself? But love this video, and will certainly use the tips!

      That's awesome! Those are definitely the steps in my mind that make sense to start with to get where you wanna go - meeting people (in person & online) and a great portfolio is the bulk of it for sure!
      To answer your question, I would say post as much work as you can, and essentially make yourself "top-of-mind" when people look for animators and what industry/job you're trying to break into. Even showing works in progress, asking for feedback is a good step to showing you can grow.

    Thank you for this video! Ive finally kicked myself into reaching out to artists i admire, connecting and leaving an intro mssg. But i have no idea what to say/what questions to ask after that😅 I dont want to seem like im asking for favors either, just no idea what to talk about after initial intro, wouldnt know what to 'pick their brain' about

    • @audreyhavey
      @audreyhavey  Рік тому

      That's a great question! Honestly, it's great to keep questions in the back of your mind when you're working on your own projects/clients/work. Jot them down or do your own research - but all artists work differently, so its easier to ask questions about process, the kind of tools they use, what they've found successful/unsuccessful in their career, industry "day in the life" routines, etc.
      Questions will come to you! :)

    What if I currently have nothing relevant to show on the work experience part, other then bs retail jobs? I am self-taught motion designer / illustrator, since most colleges in my country only teach print design crap.

    • @audreyhavey
      @audreyhavey  Рік тому

      Great question! I would say you should get yourself and your website/portfolio out there as much as possible.
      It’s not a bad thing to talk about what you’re learning at the moment, questions for other professionals in the industry, and show any bit of work in progress and work you’re proud of!
      I’m also self taught from the motion design side, and in my experience what matters most is showing that you’re taking the initiative to learn - not what small jobs you might’ve had in the past especially if they don’t relate. Work ethic and quality of work trumps all 🔥
