Well done for putting this out Kurtis. Firestorm Games, Cardiff, South Wales is the venue for a L'Art de la Guerre competition ,Virtus 2015 ,on December 5th and 6th. All new players welcome !Despertaferres
You MIGHT want to have a look at a game by the name of Hoplon if you liked "L'Art de la Guerre." L'Art de la Guerre is basically a French Rip-off of Nicolas Protonotarios' "Hoplon" with a few minor changes taken from other games. And Hoplon, while not (yet) as slickly produced as L'Art de la Guerre, is actually a pretty good game that has been around a while (it just suffered from some severe malignment by the DBx crowd, due to Phil hating on it). It is also written in easily understood English (amazing that Greek and French, non-native English speakers can write clearer rules that a person actually FROM england. But Phil is a notorious Snob, who writes intentionally confusing prose/rules as a means of a pretentious establishment of superiority over those who do not understand his rules). Hoplon is basically what would happen if you re-inserted Morale and a few additional details from the older WRG ancients rules BACK into DBM. • It uses Units (which can be anywhere from 2 - 12 elements in size). • It uses the basic DBx element types (with a few additions). • It uses the "grading" from DBx (but ONLY, I, O, S), as the grading in Hoplon is ACTUALLY JUST "morale." • Troops are designated by the role they play ("Shock," or Melee troops, or "Missile" troops, or dual-role, with their dominant role listed first: Shock/Missile or Missile/Shock) • And it allows for anyone armed with a missile weapon of any type to use it as a missile weapon. • Then the game has a small handful of what are known as "Distinctives" (these are what make a particular troop "Distinct" from others of a similar type): Heavy (H), Vulnerable (V), Fast (F and Fx), and Untrained (U) or Professional (Pro1 or Pro2, depending upon if they are double armed and professional in both roles) • And lastly the game has a few special behaviors or characteristics, such as Roman Legionnaire behavior (for Maniple or Cohort Legions), the famed "Skythian Shot" (for Light Horse being able to shoot while evading), Lance Armed Cavalry (as opposed to "Knights," which are always Lance Armed), Spearmen capable of forming Shieldwalls, or gaining a charge bonus when attacking (The game has both Charge Phase and normal movement). • The game also includes variable grade generals, which allow for a command to be more maneuverable if it has a better general. A few of us are working on a fourth edition of Hoplon, which will allow for more flexible commands and units (allowing for use of "Battlelines" line in FoG, or to retain the separate "Commands"). And I am working on a fantasy version of the rules as well. It is a pity we do not have the resources to produce slick artwork, as these seem to go a long way toward selling rules.... Although, Hoplon is free, and we intend to keep it that way.
Matthew Bailey Thanks for that look at Hoplon. Is there a website dedicated to these rules? How about a support forum? The title rings a bell with me, yet I can't place it.
Robert Chisholm Oh, yes I did. Some people follow the WoS vlog, some don't. I posted this one separate as a "first look" type video. this one has adverts in it to, the other doesn't . I should re-name this one maybe.
+Phil Gardocki Hi Phil. ALl my reading suggests Asian were quite bigger. Keep in mind there were many breeds of elephants in existence as well back then. We had some awesome conversation - and funny - on this topic on the Tabletop Commanders PAINT & CHATS. Thanks for the comment my friend. Glad you enjoyed.Kurtus

Kurtus Brown Yes they ring a, back of the brain, bell with me too.
Nice one mate
Well presented.
fatboycsaba Thanks much. 😊
Did you upload the wrong video? Seems like you posted the same video twice.

Nah. Makes sense with posting it for your blog.
Seem an interesting set of rules, oh dear! more expense ahead.
I think Asian elephants are smaller than African. And the backs of the Asian elephants have a rounded back, while the African are more "sway backed"

The Ancient World used a now extinct breed of North African forest lephant that was smaller than the modern African elephant.
