I realized that the Warden wasn't a ferocious and feared beast... but a pure, kind, caring, and gentle creature. I was shocked as well since the iron golem was not the only protector of the villagers. That song that helped calm the warden down was so emotional. This was an amazing video!

Alan crossed the barriers of a simple fun animation to a possible direct influence not only in the community of Minecraft players, but that could also affect Mojang's future creative decisions. I hope she brings that background to Warden!!

Fun detail I noticed about when learning about how noteblocks work in Minecraft: The flute sound is produced by placing a noteblock on top of clay or a honeycomb block. So it actually makes perfect sense why SC would be able to make a flute out of a candle with it being crafted from honeycomb.

In a video named something like 'Season 3 In REAL time', on Alan Becker's channel, when the warden episode arrived, there is an extra scene where TSC first sees the Warden and goes from the cave, to a *lava parkour area* (which he crossed twice, once to get to the city and get the items and 2nd to run away from the city direction), and THEN to the city.
This was most likely added so Alan could more align the stories together with King getting jumped by TSC and the Warden when he woke up (And for everyone else's story to line up with it aswell)

Honestly, after seeing the whole series (which was absolutely amazing btw.) I think this is still by far my favorite episode. With both the fight scene and a look into the wardens past, just a masterpiece.
I seriously love how Alan:
- Presents these stickfigures
- Is able to blend both common solutions against an opponent ("defeat em with friendship!" "defeat em with fight!")
- Gave a murderous and powerful beast a lovely backstory
- Animates fights and how SC swung around The Warden's body in the fight
- Shows not tells (highlights were the notes that literally painted a picture for what's happening)
- Has a good emphasis on relationships and doesn't just resort to always fighting
- Creating solutions to problems that seem nearly impossible
- Still has time to add comedy to it
- Dwells on multiple 'genres' like the horror in this vid
I think we can agree we all love his style

This backstory for the warden actually makes sense for its design. In ancient myth from real life golems we’re actually depicted be hulking monsters with a gaping hole as a face before in later art they were shown to have more human faces. Since the ancient cities are ancient it wouldn’t be out there for the warden to just be an older corrupted golem model.

I DEMAND THAT THIS FEATURE BE ADDED TO MINECRAFT!!!
I honestly enjoy the idea that the warden was designed as an ancient protector of a lost civilization, as it never made sense to me that the warden itself came from an alternate dimension. I personally believe the skulk was the only invasive species and the warden was infested during the invasive attack. The idea that the warden would be insanely powerful would make sense in this regard, as their existance served to protect their creators, and if there were truly more beings from this other dimension, why was the warden the only seemingly larger entity to cross through? It just doesnt make sense when you stop to think about it. The skulk had to have been the only invasive species, and must work as a hivemind in that regard.

Or a new boss
Me too!! genuinely the coolest idea!!
Who doesn't?
5:03
This is the best part.
Let me tell you a story.
About a protector. A guardian.
You see, there were once, long ago, underground cities made for mining. Villages that flourished from the material they collected.
In order to protect the villagers and their work, a golem was made. The villagers adored its creation. Never forgetting any of the work done by their golem. It helped in numerous ways aside from being a protecter.
It could not see, but it could hear. The laughter of children playing, the hustle and bustle of the village and the numerous conversations of villagers that it passed. The golem eventually was named by the village. They called it the 'Warden'.
Unfortunately the village began dying. A growth began overtaking the area and eventually villagers either died or left to find sanctuary. Nothing was left but an empty place, the growth, and the warden.
It could not hear the presence of the villagers no longer. No one was there. Silence began enveloping the atmosphere of the village. The warden began questioning itself. Wondering where the villagers disappeared to. Millennia passed and the warden grew hateful. The growth began growing on the warden and eventually the warden and the growth created a symbiotic relationship now giving the warden purpose to protect once again.
Many adventurers have tried to search for the warden. None have come back to tell the tale. Except one.
A bard. Legends have told that this bard carried a flute. And no weapon to defend himself. He claimed he could find the warden and come back to tell the tale. The bard, dressed in what seemed to be tattered and ancient clothing and began to set off for the search of the mighty warden.
Months passed. With no sign from the bard. Until a strange melody from what sounded to be a flute was heard. The bard had returned. Many were surprised. And wondered what happened. Others did not believe he even went to the underground village.
And so he began his story.
It was a long journey in his search for the warden. Though after months of searching he finally arrived at the underground city. He began walking forward looking for clues of the location of the warden.
But it had already found him. The bard began running away, with the warden closely in pursuit. The bard ran into a dead end and was now trapped between a wall and the warden slowly walking towards him.
In his last moment he pulled out his flute and played a melody his grandfather used to play before he was killed he closed his eyes preparing for the strike the warden would give him. But nothing. The warden, still as a rock, began remembering the village and people it once protected, the same melody played throughout the markets and land it once traversed was now being played to the warden after many millennia passed. It fell still, paralysed from its nostalgia and missed the villagers so. It could not attack anymore. Whoever played that melody was not an enemy. But a friend. The warden turned around and walked away. Knowing that the melody it heard was not of its friends it once knew. It knew they were gone. But for the one time it could be reminded of its glorious past. The warden decided to spare the bard and leave as a thanks for a memory it had lost long ago.
After that the bard left. Nothing proved the story to be true. Eventually villagers forgot about it and the bard left continuing its journey around the world. Some say the bard went back to the warden, others say the warden escaped in search for that melody.
All i know is that the warden is real and if you ever encounter it. The one thing that could keep you alive is a melody from its past.
This is not canon and completely fan made
I liked the approach this video gave of the warden and thought id just start typing and eventually ended up with all this.

You never fail to impress dude, nice work.
The backstory makes me feel something for this creature, it's represented as an unhinged monster with no remorse, so seeing a friendlier side to it makes it feel more like a misunderstood creature.
However, it stopping dead in it's tracks from a set of notes seems confusing at first but, keep in mind, the song likely made him remember that it wasn't given life to take other lives away.
It's body is almost identical to the Iron Golem expect some of proportions are larger. Let's take a second to wonder why it's called a "Warden"
It's definitely protecting something that YOU (The Player) walk into on your own. Maybe it's protecting a place it used to call home, Maybe it's not protecting anything and because it's blind it can't tell what is a monster and what isn't, MAYBE it's protecting YOU from the Shulk?

Can we appreciate the fact that the Warden was made compassionate, instead of hostile, and yet he fights like a feral animal; but with WAY more precision than a thing that size should have.
fighting like that has its uses
Since the enemy doesn't know if you had education in fighting or not, your attacks can be extremely unpredictable and can absolutely destroy you if you aren't careful

This is the perfect example of "show, don't tell." Even without words, Alan Becker has made something truly amazing, and he deserves way more credit for it.
Yo! I make hilariously funny bedwars moment videos if you have time to check one out! (Humor inspired by Alan)
I accept
Inded my friend, inded.

Need Mojang to see this since they are pushing back the deep dark for a second time. Go ahead and add the warden backstory elements to the game. Also having instruments instead of just note blocks would be epic.
Yes
I don't think that's how Mojang works
YES I WANT IT I WANT THEM TO PUT MAN MADE THINGS IN THE CAVES WHERE THE WARDEN LIVES but they might not do it because it might take long or they just dont want to
I just noticed all of the songs for this short use the same motif
