I really appreciate your intuition and instincts of interpreting the 2 Pink Floyd songs I've watched you react to. Many people much older and more experienced than you don't grasp the concepts as quickly as you do. I believe that Comfortably Numb was inspired by the experience that Roger Waters of the band had before a concert, when he became very ill and was doubled over backstage in pain, with hepatitis, I think. They called in on on-call doctor, who injected him with a strong muscle relaxant and analgesic to allow him to go onstage, but he felt very zoned out and could barely feel or control his hands, reminding him of how he felt as a child when he had a high fever. In the second verse, he then generalizes that story to a more global concept, of how all of the strong dreams and passions that we may hold for our future lives when we're young are gradually forgotten, as we settle for 'good-enough', rather than the 'exceptional' lives we'd hoped for. Being just comfortably numb, and falling short of our potential. Keep it up! I also would strongly recommend watching the Pulse Concert live version of this, for one of the best guitar solos of all time, and an amazing visual experience (don't look away).
You are correct about the story line concerning the lyrics. It happened before the Philadelphia show during the " IN THE FLESH TOUR ( ANIMALS ALBUM ) back in '77. I saw Floyd in Cleveland June 25th 1977 (same tour )
2nd video of yours I've watched and you are so intuitive, especially for your age. Floyd isn't music, it's an experience, a journey. Welcome aboard. I've been on the Floyd train for 50 years and it never gets old.
You're getting it, man - just keep listening and thinking. Most songs on this album are more specific to the concept, but this one is simply universal.
This came out when I was a senior in highschool. Bought the double album, smoked a joint, and listened from being to end. I have never been the same! 😃
The Wall is a concept album and tells an entire story from the beginning to the end. My favorite band with my favorite guitarist playing my favorite song. I’ve seen them live twice. Once in 1988 and once in 1995 for the Pulse tour (VIP floor seats). Best experience of my life.
For viewers new to this song, the conversation at the beginning is between a doctor and his rock star patient. The doctor gives him an injection so that he's able to perform at his next show.
@@MDreeezy The Wall is a concept album (double album), and this song tells a specific story, it's like reading one chapter in a book. You need to hear the whole thing to really understand what's going on.
@@MDreeezy No, you are right, it is definitely deeper. This is the final block being placed in The Wall. Pink Floyd is a very very deep rabbit hole and you are near the beginning of your journey, PF are known for their long intro’s lyrics that make you think and astonishingly skilful musical talents. The feelings you experience while listening is exactly what they wanted you to feel, each track leaves you in exactly the right place to carry on to the next track. Studio versions are equally as good as live versions the only difference is live versions develop over time as the musicians add a bit here and there while studio versions remain exactly the same as the day they were laid down.
This is amazing, when this album was first released in 1979 it sold out in hours of hitting the stores. Your reaction, so many years later is exactly what it's done for lots of people, the first time.

Based on a true story. Roger Waters was suffering from stomach cramps before a concert. It was recommended that a doctor administer a shot of a muscle relaxer. It was so powerful that he could barely move. He went on to perform, but just barely.
This is a fabulous track. However, You owe it to Yourself to check out (and react to...) the PULSE LIVE CONCERT version of this masterpiece, my friend!💕
When you say "I got it, I got it" at 7:09, realize that there are many thousands of others who at some point in their lives had that same Eureka moment when listening to Comfortably Numb. When the words "The child is grown, the dream is gone" penetrate, it's like a knife going in, and the feeling is only reinforced by the long and haunting outro. Most reactors don't seem to pick up on the significance of these lyrics at all, the fact that you did at age 20 is pretty amazing. If you revisit these lyrics in twenty years, or forty years, you will find them infinitely more meaningful.
No one should ever comment on The Wall, guessing meaning, until they watch the entire movie. All songs will make complete sense in the context of the the movie. An amazingly powerful, rocking movie.
I went back in-time reminds me of my Junior/Senior years in high school (1979/1980) at a friends house party…, what is that aroma in the air?!? Good memory of just chillin’ just hanging out (pre-internet days.)
It was funny watching you freak out at the break in the repetition of when I was a child, I had a fever. Suddenly it was fleeting glimpse and it grabbed you. You need more Pink Floyd in your life.
Hi, it's good to see young people react to PF. i'm 68 and been a floydy for 50 yrs. i flew from Australia to UK to see the PULSE concert, as others have said you need to see the comfortably numb PULSE version, this studio version is good, but the PULSE version takes it to another level. also don't make the mistake of pausing PF other people won't take to kindly to it . 😀
the demo was origionall called the doctor, it`s a drug overdose he`s experiencing and his mind wonders back to his childhood, he was ill once and this feels the same, the pin prick is the doctor shooting adrenalin into his system to bring him round for the show, as the character is pink, a rock star who builds an emotional wall around himself. all the pain in his life all those things are bricks in the wall, listen to the full album and there was a film adaptation by the same name this is 1979-80 long before covid.
Now I would like to see your reaction to their song "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" parts 1-9 on the Wish You Were Here album, it's about their original lead man Syd Barrett who succumbed to mental illness and could not continue with the band, it's heartfelt from every member, the song in all it's parts is in my opinion the best piece of arranged music in the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries
Not sure what this song is about but it’s dope . Thanks for the reaction good analysis I think . And you did it right only way to listen to it with headphones. Musics nectar to the ears
I'm enjoying your reactions to Pink Floyd, I would like to suggest that you check out their entire 1994 Pulse concert, experience the visuals with the music, I hope you continue to see how far the Pink Floyd rabbit hole goes, it's a journey I'm sure you will be glad to have taken, looking forward to seeing more my Friend, God Bless.
As many others have said, you are very thoughtful and insightful for a young man. You are doing a great job! And also to expand on what others have said, the wall is a concept album. It is a story from beginning to end. Each song is like one chapter in a book, so just as it would be confusing to open a book and start reading in the middle, the same can be said for the wall. It will make more sense to listen beginning to end or to watch the movie. It is basically the story of the life of a boy named "Pink" who slowly goes crazy as each small trauma of his life is a brick in the wall that he builds that separates him from the world and leads him to withdraw into his own mind even as he becomes a rock star, disconnecting him from those around him and numbing him to his own feelings. It's a trip!
It's about a doctor giving an injection to someone totally out of spoons to carry on and get on stage. It's him ending up comfortably numb enough to go on but being spaced out and lost in intrusive memories.
Well done. You're one of the few reactors to fully appreciate (or at least express it) the impact of those lines, The child is grown The dream is gone It's one of those pivotal and existential points in anyone's life, when you fully realize how unforgiving the world can be. It makes numbness a very understandable escape.
Very insightful reaction! Pink Floyd albums are concept albums ..if you listen from beginning to the end you'll see the whole story! Keep up the great work!
I'll always remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard this for the first time 44 years back. And I echo all of the advice about the version from the Pulse video from '94 ---it's got to be experienced.
Some may suggest the live versions. I've been listening to Floyd for almost 50 yrs...AND I PREFER their recorded versions by far. Now that you have headphones you will hear nuances that are missed in the lives. WHEN SOMEONE is comfortably numb they are INDEED detached...just existing. Happy with being complacent. There is an element of drugs and for the BEST reference to the concepts of this PHENOMENAL double album I strongly suggest the MOVIE. edit: you have FANTASTIC insight and YES! You got it! Please seriously consider watching the Pink Floyd movie (with your headphones on ) The album is played in its entirety during that film. GREAT REACTION and pause away! at least you speak with some sense and ACTUALLY say something
Great reaction. Pink Floyd's 'Mother' from the same album is a song about how a parent can over protect a child. A must listen. You must listen to the whole album from beginning to end and watch the movie. It's semi-autobiographical of the bassist/lyricist Roger Waters life. Keep digging young man, you're very intelligent btw.
Not sure if you could tell listening, however this song has 2 different singers. Roger Waters sings the verses; David Gilmour sings the chorus, and he also performs the 2 guitar solos. Which are considered some of the greatest solos in Rock history.
It has been said below, the the pulse live version is a must! Dave Gilmore's guitar solo is legendary and the light show is first contact stuff. How many rabbit holes can you handle at once?: Try Led Zeppelin - Since I've Been Loving You (Live at Madison Square Garden 1973). You will meet Jimmy Page the other best guitarist in the world ever
Roger Waters wrote this song about a time when he was ill before a show and couldn't go on, a doctor was summoned and he gave Roger a shot of something that got him through the show
Great reaction man. You do get it. I'd love to see you do The Great Gig In The Sky from their Dark Side of the Moon album. But anything by them you haven't listened to yet will be great. Much love.
Brother, you really need to react to the live PULSE concert version of “Comfortably Numb”. This version is great - that version is spectacular. PULSE has been called, arguably, the greatest concert performance ever recorded. You need to experience it. Every song is incredible. “The Wall” is a double album that tells the story of Pink, a fictional boy who wants to grow up and become a rock star. Over the course of the two discs he does achieve this goal, but pays a high price. Pink isolates himself to focus on achieving his goal. He sets aside everyone who really cared for him, and finds himself surrounded by sycophants and yes-men, people who are only using him to get rich. The song begins one night before a concert. Pink, hating the life he feels trapped in, has turned to self-medication to escape his pain-drugs. He’s too stoned to play, so the promoter, caring only about having to give the crowd refunds, which he hates, calls in a local doctor. The song actually begins with a short montage of a groupie wondering if Pink is feeling okay, along with the sound of the promoter knocking on his door, and telling him “Time to go-o!” Your version apparently skipped that intro. The lyrics begin with the doctor, who has no idea what Pink might have taken, trying to assess Pink’s condition (“Hello! Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me…”) The soothing chorus is Pink, replying to him as best he can (“Your lips move, but I can’t hear what you’re saying”). So the doctor concocts an all-purpose “pick-me-up” shot, injects Pink (“Just a little pin-prick”), and Pinks is sent out on stage. The first guitar solo, soaring and beautiful, is while Pink is still stoned. But the second one is after Pink has been forced by the shot to sober up, and you can hear David Gilmour showing us Pink’s rage, loneliness, depression, misery, and self-hate. ‘The Wall’ is now complete, and Pink is trapped by it. A version of this actually happened to the band’s former bassist and main songwriter, Roger Waters. While touring with the band in 1977, he became ill before a concert in Philadelphia. A doctor was called in, but unlike Pink, the doctor was able to correctly diagnose him as suffering from hepatitis. The shot he gave Waters left him confused on stage, with hands that felt numb. Waters does not recall the incident fondly.
When you say you got it half way through, what you got was the meaning behind ' Another Brick in the Wall prt 2 ' and to a lesser degree ' Mother ' ,both are from the same album, enjoy your experience, the entire album is deep and will leave you postulating about life, the universe and everything else. You should really watch the 'Pulse ' version, the entire concert will blow your mind.
When this came out I would listen to this front to back with headphones LOUD. The Movie is a MUST watch for you now if you want the entire story. (You won't need drugs but it won't hurt) 😎 Happy belated 4/20+
I’m 50 years old now when I was in high school I would smoke half a joint put in the cassette side A and lay in bed and go to sleep for the night the next night I would do the same thing turn the cassette over and listen to side B one of the best album ever made those were good days
Before you see the movie "The wall" Please listen to the album first from start to finish. The movie can get very confusing and is better when you are familiar with the songs and story line.
🚨 Warning: Listening to Pink Floyd "out of order" is like reading 3 chapters of a Book or walking in to the Middle of a Movie, then being asked to give a full Report. 🤗 Just do The Wall Album dude! 🥰🐰

Must watch the movie "The Wall" so you'll understand their music better. I wish all 20 yr olds had your insight. Great job brother.
(You won't need drugs but it won't hurt) 😎
Happy belated 4/20+

The Covid vaccine comparison is actually so smart I never would’ve caught that
Before you see the movie "The wall" Please listen to the album first from start to finish.

Eventually, privately probably, you need to listen to the whole album from start to finish, preferably with a little background info. It’s a breathtaking experience.❤
