This is literally the best version of this song I've heard. The raw, real vocals like at 1:59, plus the beautiful belts like the lines at 2:43 oh my gosh. Also the diva "true" at 4:30 is AMAZING HA. Then, to wrap it all up, the speech at the end is SO powerful - seriously the most powerful I've seen. Haley, you are amazing!
PS - I love the "Argentina" pronunciation in the middle - it leads into the descamisados humming so beautifully and makes the audience feel connected to the fact that this took place in a desperate Argentina.

I made my cover when I was 7 years old of Don't Cry For me Argentina. Hope I get to do the play when I am older. Love Yours

Is she trying to replicate Elena Roger's (natural) accent from the revival recording(s)? It's kind of annoying. I was as equally bothered by Bob Gunton's (faux) accent as 'Juan Perón' in the American Premiere Recording. If it's not your natural accent, don't do it, unless the part calls for it. In this show, everyone is presumably speaking Argentine Spanish despite being told almost completely in English. Therefore, we suspend disbelief that the characters are speaking to each other in their native tongue. So, they wouldn't have 'Spanish accents,' only regional Argentine dialects, but that's neither here nor there.

I was not attempting to replicate it, as I completely agree with your point about it not being my natural accent. The only part I intentionally added an accent to was the "argentina" near the middle/end of the song, at the request of the spanish speaking and latinx students in our production. I think you could also make the argument that it drives home the idea that she's really connecting (and perhaps manipulating) her people during this song, and it all comes together before they start humming. I absolutely agree with your point though, and I would never do anything to make a caricature out of argentinian culture (or any culture, for that matter). I appreciate your feedback!

You make a very good point here. After Eva met Peron, she started a radio program called "Toward a Better Future" that pretty much exalted Peron and Peronism. Anyway, when she spoke, Eva used the vernacular to reach out to the working poor. Needless to say, this endeared her further to them, while at the same time she was ridiculed by the upper class for sounding like a hick. Not that she cared. haha
Anyhoo! Thank you for your gracious response. I always try to be constructive with my feedback 'cause, otherwise, what would be the point than to just be a prick? But I also wouldn't post unless I had something to say. That was really my only complaint about the production. Other than that, it was very impressive. I posted about that on one of the other videos, so I'll end this before it gets too long. :-P
