Following on from their keynote lecture, on 19 May Charmaine Chua was interviewed by Jacob Bolton and Miriam Matthiessen at Maritime Frictions, an event curated by Sonic Acts and FieldARTS. Engaging in a dynamic and enriching discussion, the conversation maneuvers through troubled waters of the so-called ‘logistics revolution’, drawing attention to accounts of social rebellion and unrest in ports and along the supply chain, and diving deep into Chua’s expansive research practice.
Drawing together artistic and critical practices, Maritime Frictions included field presentations from Harpo ’t Hart and Frank Bloem (Embassy of the North Sea), a listening walk with Lance Laoyan, talks by Fred Carter and Charmaine Chua, a performance lecture by Liquid Time (Jacob Bolton and Miriam Matthiessen), a screening of Michaela Büsse’s ‘Building with Nature’ (2022), a sound performance from Velma Spell, ending with Nessim‘s DJ set for the after party.
