There's a limited amount that can be practically simulated in a video game that needs to actually be playable. Basically every tank also has more effective armor than it would in real life because the game usually rounds down what would be partial penetrations into nonpens. Every vehicle is also way more reliable and robust. The average War Thunder player drives their tank in ways that would leave it broken in the first two minutes of a match, where's the realism there?

And bomb that hits UFP sees at least 140mm at the hull and >200mm at the turret, considering that bombs barely get to 100mms of penetration game thinks that its nonpen. The method isn't really junky, but extremely outdated.
