Hi Ed, I thinking you’re doing all the right steps. There are a couple of things that you could try to make it work but since you have Apple motion, I would suggest trying to save the animation in motion and it should automatically be available in Final Cut Pro.
Command S should prompt the save dialogue window.

Had same issues but I just fixed it now. I've uploaded the fix. Just delete the folders you copied into the motion templates folder earlier, download and unzip the file from the link below and paste the folders inside the Neat Pack into their respective folders in the motion templates folder. Hope this helps.
