Us in Denmark don't even know what DR wants anymore. The consensus is that after our victory in 2013 and the budget scandal with ESC 2014 DR got afraid of winning and therefore got bad on purpose, but now have forgotten how to be good. So yeah, it's frustrating to be a Danish Eurovision fan cause we know DR can do so much better and be that more ambitious than they are.
Anyways, I like our entry this year and I believe it will get improved come May since DMGP was on a technical level a mess this year, and Reiley has said in interviews they want to change things up he and his team. If they are successful in this endeavour, then I believe the whole package will get him through to the final, and that would make me so happy, especially on the behalf of the Faroese. From what I have seen they seem overjoyed to finally have the Danish representative be from their islands.

Reiley is great, and he ought to qualify, though there was another more original entry at Dansk Melodi Grand Prix (Søren Torpegaard Lund's "Lige her"). But you're absolutely right about DR, The National Broadcasting Company, the producer of DMGP. It's a big organisation, which generally produces tv on a high level, but DMGP is a complete mess. It lacks ambition, identity, and, increasingly, basic professionalism. I had an big op'ed in one of the largest Danish newspapers arguing that DR is unfit to organise the event, and that they should outsource it or comletely give it away - what happened? Nothing, DR didn't even care to respond. Quite symptomatic of an organisation whicht wants to maintain the privilege to host the event, but doesn't even care to do it properly. It's a complete disgrace. But it's not Reiley's fault, he's fine.

The thing I remember about this song was being jealous about how many coloured fits he could pull off in the music video.
I quite like this actually though!

Dane here: I completely agree with you that DR seems kind of indifferent to doing well in the context of Eurovision.
In recent years, I have become much more interested in the Norwegian melodi grand prix and actually also started to look a little more at the Swedish "Mello" (but mostly Norwegian).
That being said, I think Reiley will go to the finals.
However, I have heard several "older" people who actually like this song.
Thank you for a nice reaction video

yea its strange because the standard of national finals in the nordics is super high (although iceland are having a weak year this year), So its weird that they all have a super strong system and denmarks is just quite average

Yet another Dane here.. : My best bet is that in Denmark the ESC is not valued by pro musicians. And as a small nation (-6m), we don't have the semi quality to go beyond average.
Fortunately: Reiley and several other unknown and unpolished stars go for it and participate. If only our broadcasters would embrace their effort...
Great reaction - all the best :)

Like you're saying, this song will probably be a hit among the younger audience! And lets face it... we need those! Not that its a "kids" song. But its very much in the Gen Z generation and we gotta make room for those viewers as well.
Also the SMS and app voting was 100% public voting and Reiley was among the top 3 of both (we didnt get any specifics about any rankings). In the superfinal it was 50/50 public and jury, and he shared the 2nd place with Micky Skeel among the public, while being 1st with the jury. I do think it was fair, especially since the jury clearly had Eurovision and who could do the best in mind when they selected their votes. Nicklas Sonne was 1st with the public.

According to wikipedia, he's 25. I would have guessed he was younger honestly. He's pretty babyfaced. That said the minimum age to compete at Eurovision is 16 and he doesn't look young enough to pass for 15 if people were trying to claim he should have been going for the junior contest. Honestly IDK what people are on about with lying about his age. 25 is entirely believable.

They have said that they are going to change the staging to the better for the Eurovision finals. Fact is though that he is the first from the tiny Danish Faroe Island to represent Denmark at the Eurovision. I have noticed very much that "He looks very young", though he is actually 25, but has not been too keen on revealing his age because he has around 11 million very young follower on TikTok mainly from South Korea and Japan.
Btw, he is not using autotune, but an much older form of voice distortion also used by the Olsen Brothers who won the Eurovision back in 2000.

I don't think this is solely going for the teen and kids audience. Colorful and cute doesn't necessarily make it a song for kids. I think it will get votes from all age groups because it's a fun, inoffensive song
If anything teens might be the least likely group to vote for this. I know the teenage me would be way too immature to enjoy this because "ew, pink and hearts are for kids" but as an adult it's far from my favorite but I see its appeal.

Wait...you never did this? You're breaking my heart now Tom! Lol jk! This is actually one of the best songs they've sent in a while for me! It's a big grower. Bit repetitive but I think that's the point AND I relate to the lyrics. Give this some time and it grows, though I think the staging should significantly improve at Eurovision and with the semi final it's in, it MAY qualify. Reiley has millions of followers on TikTok especially from Asia, so I expect him to do decently at least, with the worldwide vote! From what i've heard, they turned up the backing vocals in the Danish national selection so we SHOULD be able to hear his voice on top of it you know at Eurovision? But if you think about where Denmark's come from with it's win with 'Fly on the Wings of Love', they actually used the vocoder effect before, so it's actually a HOMAGE to that!

The end of high placements for danish submission more less matches with when the danish broadcaster DR (hosts of the danish preselection) changed the submission process. Instead of having artist submitting songs/demos which then could be selected, developed and improved in collaboration with DR, the songs submitted today have to be submitted as a finished product and therefore also professionally produced. On one hand it gives the artists more creative freedom, but it also means only professionals can participate and potentially limit representation for amateurs and undiscovered talent.
If this is good or bad or if this is the reason why the danish Eurovision success is collapsing - that's anyone's guess.

  • @rekselreignsun7359

DR is on a mindset that anyone established in Denmark in their music career is unfit for DMGP as they want unknown artists to get their "Once In a Lifetime" shot at becoming more established, and so we get a treadmill of people being put together with songwriters that aren't as relevant anymore. Back in the glory days we had huge artists and writers that could do something, but they're old now, so we're making do with what we can get. Couple with the fact that DR flopped epicly with the funding for ESC 2014, so now they're scared what might happen. We never get any artists returning back to the contest to try again either. DR is literally just picking somebody up from the street... We also no longer have 10 songs after.. how many years? Now we're down to 8 after the pandemic... Whats up with that?
It should also be said that I am suspicious with the Voting App we could use. It hard crashed for everyone, so only 55% of the SMS voting went through, and lets be real, most of us dont use SMS Voting in Denmark I think... So all of the App Voters had to be Makeshifted on the spot after a long-winded paddling by the Hosts (Tina Müller carried the show) and suddenly SMS voters who voted for Søren, Eyjaa, or whatever, suddenly shifted away from those to Nicklas, Micky and Reiley. The fact Eyjaa wasn't even in the Superfinal despite being a clear favorite speaks volume. Compared to the difference in SMS Voters, The App Voters were all the same 3 acts. It was a horrible voting showcase that nobody understood, and I hope we will never see that again in the future... Did I mention that DMGP 2023 was the least watched show in the last 30 years?
As a Danish ESC fan, I can only be excited for MGP (Norway), UMK and Melodifestivalen...

So we have some time to comment on your fantastic selection of cardigans and your nice new logo! Since otherwise... Ok this was one of the two best options that Denmark had (the other one for me was Søren with "Lige her"). It's fresh and the most current Danish entry in years, and I enjoy the song. Reiley looks good and seems comfortable on stage. Voice is good, although the vocoder is quite much. Yeah it's still VERY safe stuff and lacks that kinda oomph that Danish entries always seem to lack. The performance also feels very low-energy to me; I think it's good that he has dancers and they look competent, but with their bland styling and tbh quite dull choreography they simply do not add enough to the performance. Denmark will probably qualify, they're lucky to be in semi 2.

oh lol actually ive only 2 of these cardigans and im so embarassed that i keep wearing the same thing, but my parents are being careful with heating, so my house is freezing. waiting for it to get warmer so i can start wearing t shirts again.
      thanks re logo
yea i think Lige her would have been an out of the box choice for them, hence why they didnt pick it.
yea this wouldnt QF from SF1

This is the first year I'm paying attention to the national selections, only because I'm bombarded with ranking videos. I would say most countries so far chose unwisely, Denmark is definitely one of them, Søren's Lige her is a top 10 song for me, I wonder how many good songs that were left out I missed in recent years

So look, I’m danish, and let me spill the tea. DR doesn’t want to win Eurovision because they got a lot of flag after they hosted in 2014. They went waaaay over budget with the venue they chose and it was a big thing. So that I think is their main motivation for sending mediocrity every year.
To me, it also feels like the people who are arranging DMGP don’t care about Eurovision. I get mad and sad every year when I hear the songs because this simply cannot be the best of the best that have entered the competition. Also, this year there wasn’t a single famous face in DMGP (Reiley is not famous in Denmark, he is more famous in Korea). It’s sad that we cannot attract even the lowest levels of celebrities to a contest with a history spanning back to 1957 (DMGP), creating songs that I have heard all throughout my childhood.
Personally, I got into Eurovision at the age of 10 when The Olsen Brothers won. It was such a big experience that all of Denmark was proud of and I just want that back.

Also< wonder if DR isnt pulling a RTE, and ensuring they cant POSSIBLY win again

No, right before Reiley went on stage , the danish viewers were told to delete the voting app and download it again. Me and my guests did that, but didn’t receive the code before the show was long over, so Reiley missed a lot of votes in my opinion.
