  • Fun + easy way to make stencils for gel printing. These are great for organic and abstract shapes + embracing the imperfection that gel plate printing is known for. Plus, a handy tip for cleaning the old, dried up paint off your plate!
    WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
    Gel plate (www.deserres.c...)
    Brayer (www.deserres.c...)
*Acrylic paint (I use heavy body in the video but fluid also works. Just play & experiment!)
Paper to pull your prints with (copy paper works great, especially when practicing cos it's not too precious)
Scrap paper for cleaning your brayer
    Glue Gun
    Glue sticks
Parchment paper (or something else the glue will peel off of easily... like a silicon mat. Dollar store is great for these things)
Have fun + remember that "perfect" is overrated. Embrace the unknown, the faults, the mistakes... they'll take you to new places! 😊

I have made lots of doodle type glue stencils, but never thought to do faces, they're really fab! As a way of avoiding waste, you can use one length of tape and use it to pull up all the crusty bits on the edges and if you keep moving the tape, you end up with some awesome patterns on your tape, which you can use as a type of washi in journals etc. I love the fun style of your videos, thank you!

Here's way to clean your plate and not waste anything, but you also end up with a cool new print! : Roll a layer of paint (one or several colours) onto the surface of your plate, making sure you get all of the corners and that all of those crusts are well covered so that the paint can soak into them. Place your paper onto your plate, rub well and then flip your plate face down (paper side onto the table). Place one or 2 books to weigh it down and leave like that for at least a half hour (you can skip the flipping over part but I feel it allows the paint to soak into the paper better and I get a cleaner plate) .Then flip it over again and let it dry several hours, you can even leave it overnight.
When it's fully dry pull your new print.

Thanks, sweetness! I’ll give that a try cos I do love a nice weathered looking print. Do you find when you pull the crusty paint bits up it looks like an old, rustic wall? I love that look!

    • @katanyajason3316
      @katanyajason3316 Рік тому +1

@@amandadevuonoart It does look like an old wall, and I love that!! Often these clean up prints are my favourites.
I forgot to say, when you roll paint over and over the crusty bits (they tend to repel the paint somehow so you gotta insist a bit) , paint tends to run down the side of your gel plate. So try to wipe these off because they may prevent the print from coming off well.

You can take one piece of tape and clean all the edges. Save it on a piece of parchment and keep using it until you like it. You can then use it in an art journal as washi tape or collage as texture.

Hmm, not sure why it stuck to the parchment, @suzijorgensen6545 🤔 You could try a silicon mat (nothing seems to stick to that stuff!). At my dollar store, here in Canada, they sell silicon mats for resting your glue gun on (to catch those dastardly, lava hot, drips). The dried glue comes off like a dream! Here’s a link to some on Amazon (it’s the Canadian Amazon but I’m sure you can find them in other currencies too) a.co/d/ht8eUBY

@@amandadevuonoart I will do Amanda……………also which recipe I use. I kind of got it pretty much sussed. I am just researching which preservative to use. Also if I can swap out the gelatine (animal product) for something plant based……………..like Agar Agar or Guar gum which are both plant based thickeners. I have the glycerine, distilled water and moulds already to hand. So I will sort out those other two elements and give it a go 👍
Keep up the great work on your channel. You have a very infectious (in a good way), pleasing style of presenting. Allied with a really good sense of humour (always a good thing). So if you can stick at it and put out the content. You should do really well 👍
