      Hey, Derek. I've seen these Kentinger bluetooth mini amps all over Aliexpress, and wondering how well they might fare, but haven't seen any of these tested in your videos, or on the dyno. Are these any good? Really counting on the Big D Wiz, and the wisdom of Dick riculous before I make another dumb mistake, as a gullible consumer.

    I had one of these on my 750 Yamaha to power two 4" speakers and it worked out quite well! I could hear my music crystal clear at highway speeds. I don't care how much actual power it put out, it did work for what I needed and that's all that counts. I used a Sony AM/FM radio or my MP3 player to listen to and they both worked very well.

    @bigblockvista I'm actually amazed they can produce these and ship them to the US for $15. The only possible use I can think for this amp would be a VERY small custom boombox. It has a USB port and should be able to keep your iPod charged. I'll test this to verify it works.

    I have just found one of this "500 Watts" Kinter MA-150 Mini Amp for 50 cents at a garage sale. If it were written "500M" instead of "500W" on it, I would also have bought a nuclear power plant to power it. But now for 50 cents, at least I have a working red LED...

    @Netko350Z Thanks man, I appreciate the comment! Also, love the O/S Too Short reference. I should be working on finishing my old school install also. I just temporarily put in a JL Audio 15W3 D4 and it's got quite a bit more output than the O/S Kicker S10c, but the Kicker is much cleaner. The JL is not in an optimal size box, which would help big time. I had an early JL 12W3 once and it was prob my favorite sub...1.5cu/ft sealed and my buddies thought I had (2) 15's. Loud AND accurate!

  • @wal

    @CLNFREAK1 I think you're right...5 Watts is what it should say! Thanks for the comment!

  • @wal

    @normalicy Yeah, I plan on taking them all apart to show off the circuit boards in the final, results video. I agree, parts alone should be over $15. I'm doing these videos to help those who have no idea why one "500 watt" amp costs $15 while another costs $250 or more. 12V 0.5A FTW!

  • @wal
    @wal  13 років тому

    @StinkyCheese9999 The power wire attached to this amp is no larger than 16ga. I miss the days of mfg's rating amps based on 4ohm RMS output power. Back when a Punch 150 was 150 watts at 4 ohms (stereo). Nowadays a Punch 300 is 75x2 at 4ohms and 300 watts total at 2ohms (at 14.4v, not 12v also).

  • @wal

    @nclh77 Yes, and I've seen very inconsistent requirements for input on many of these amps. Most say "12v 2A" on the amp, but the box mentions 9-14v 4-5A in many cases. This is why I'm using a 13v battery with plenty of juice to keep even the 5A models happy.

    Reminds me of all the equalizer/booster units for car audio back in the '80s. They all claimed massive wattage (biggest claim I ever saw was 1000 watts per channel) in a unit about double the size of a pack of cigs. Sorry, Charlie. Not even close. My understanding is that they would run white noise through the unit and increase the power input with a step transformer until the unit burnt completely out. Then they would take the peak decibel output at the last moment before burnout and using some sort of math magic arrive at the "output". It was explained to me years ago but I don't remember at this point. It's impossible to get that much output from that little input in any usable form, period.
    Thanks, good review.

  • @wal
    @wal  13 років тому

    @SilvanTheuma Using this amp, you could make an iPod speaker dock, but it is weaker than most of the nice docks you can buy. I still like the Lepai LP-2020A+, but with any of these, you'll need either a small 12v battery or a 12v DC to AC adapter

  • @wal

    Which wires did you use to bridge the amp? Mine didn't include instructions other than Chinese

  • @wal
    @wal  12 років тому

    I get these questions all of the time from people who read the title but don't watch the video. These amps only do 5-10 watts per channel continuous, just proving you can't always believe what the manufacturer claims.

    Exactly what I'm attempting to prove here! Don't get caught up in the mfg's ratings, as many times they are inaccurate. I know some people who don't know better are searching eBay finding these amps and are wondering why they are so cheap...this is why I made the video. Thanks.

  • @wal
    @wal  13 років тому

    @randomvideosn0where Yes, for background music, small bookshelf systems, etc. these amps will work fine. I just don't like to see something rated at "500 Watts", when it is actually 5 Watts. This is VERY misleading to potential buyers who may not know how to differentiate amplifiers...other than wattage specs.

    i just got one from ebay,, it arrived on May 29 2021... i am going to use it for my PC's audio 6 speakers and a sub woofer. i fell for the misinformation of 500w, and the price ( i am cheap). even thought i have a 2000w SONY AMP i whent with some thing like this because the real estate on my desk and around my PC build is very limited, so i said ( that small and 500w???????, WoW!!!!).... ill see how it turns out. i am not hoping for the best, but i am praying for something acceptable... great video

    Man what a POS that amp is! I just sold two of my old Proton D230's 2 weeks ago. The guy was putting together an old school system with a PPI amp running some 18's. Loving this channel! Brings back memories! As Too Short would say, "Ridin' around town with my Zeus and Zapco". Keep the vids coming!!

  • @sausagedog52
    @sausagedog52 11 років тому

    I bought some of these and bolted them to the back of some speakers i found on the side of the road and so now I occasionally use them as active speakers for my laptop. one of the amps had one dead channel right out of the box. i had to re-solder a few components just to get it to run. these amps are based around a single amplifier I.C. and all the rest is control circuits. and a big linear regulator to give 5V at the USB output.

  • @wal
    @wal  13 років тому

    @Netko350Z Yeah man, I got out of car audio back in the late 90's and didn't regain interest until 4-5yrs ago when I started finding some of the old school amps I always wanted back in the late 80's/early 90's. I like the JL Audio HD900/5 or XD700/5 for a small SQ system. These amps are tiny and pack BIG power (relatively speaking). Not sure where to put the sub in your 350z R, I wanted an Infiniti G37 spyder until I noticed the trunk when the hard top was down...

  • @ChrisDoesWhat
    @ChrisDoesWhat 9 років тому +1

    The Orion 2x25 in the back is a beast, had these amps in the 90's, but would it be nice if the little amp you are testing had the same output. The Orion has a 40 amp fuse if I remember correctly, that should be good for about 400 watts of output, but the pocket amp makes 500 watts, and it fits in your pocket, what a deal.

    • @ChrisDoesWhat
      @ChrisDoesWhat 9 років тому

      +Chris Redding Made it to the end, guess I have to stick with amps like Orion.

  • @wal

    According to the silk screening on the amp, it requires 0.5A of current at 12V = 6 watts! Time to load up some JL Audio W7's!!!

  • @wal

    Yes, but I'm not sure what kind of sub would actually work with this amp....maybe a 2" one?

    @bigdwiz: have you ever check what kind of op-amp Kinter MA-150 is using? i did checked a different china-amp(toshiba TA8210AHQ ), just with hearing and a multimeter(checking the amperes), in series with the dc power supply(14v). the sound had audible distortion at 500+milli-amps using a pair of 4ohm speakers. this amps sounds like ordinary PC speakers to me.

    I have a couple of Kinter amps that I was going to try and hook up to a friend's truck stereo as blue tooth. I'm glad I didn't charge him for them. I'm not much of a tech-head, but i also have a LePai amp that said it had F.M. I was going to use it to make a boom box for use at my job. It had no way of tuning, so I'm assuming that the F.M was a sending frequency for the blue tooth, and not a receiver. Am I off base or was I just doing something wrong?

  • @channelkerr
    @channelkerr 8 років тому

    As far as all these cheap ebay amps go, this Kinter amp is the best sounding one I've found (don't hate me). I've tried 3 others, incl a Lepai one and bare circuit one, and tested using the same speakers setup etc.

  • @wal
    @wal  12 років тому

    I don't think so...Orion 225 HCCA, US Amps 50HCA and Phoenix Gold MS-2125 IIRC. I have some Kicker ZR's, see my other videos.

    I would look at the Lepai LP-2020A+ and not get this particular Kinter amp. You can also check on Parts-Express as they have several other models from Dayton and Topping. You get what you pay for, but in my experience, the Lepai LP-2020A+ is the best bang for the buck

    You can also conclude the power watching the input plug....there you see 12V and 0.5A...and multiplying you have the consumption that is 6 watts.... power is half of that if you have a class ab amplifier, or a little bit more than 3 watts each channel ... if your amplifier circuit is class D, then you can have 6 plus 6 watts rms in the output.....you can realise without measure..just watching the power consumption, fuses and so on.

  • @nclh77

    You actually have a fairly good idea what this amp can do just by looking at the power input rating of 12 volts at 0.5 amps which would equal 6 watts of DC power being supplied to the amp which is pretty close to what the RMS rating of each channel was at 4 ohms.

    What do u think of the Nitro brand they have out now that states 300W 4-Channel, motorcycle amp ? I've read Amazon reviews on these and was quite impressed with the 5 star ratings for people that use them to power their head units for their vehicles. They're $45 and note that they're at .08% TDH which isn't bad. Most cheap amps I had that sounded pretty good IMO ran at .1% which is pretty high distortion. Like VR3 and Jensen. They worked for me, but I needed a 4-channel for separate T&B for front and rear. The amp I run now is too big for my trunk space and looking for a cheaper space saver for this reason. Thanks for your reviews. Quite helpful.

    It is possible 500W amp in this size, if inside will be D+ class amp BUT the price will be a looooot of higher and of course, the power voltage will be about 50-60V (if you want maintain the size,inside cannot be upstep switching supply)

  • @wal

    @abusiveben You said it best, Ben! I must say, just on size alone, the Rockford PBR300x1 is an amazing engineering feat...only SLIGHTLY larger than this Kinter, but MANY times more powerful! It costs about 10x more, but again, you get what you pay for! If Rockford had a 2ch version, I'd prob throw it in the mix, just to show the difference. Maybe I can pick up one of those SounDigital 250.2D's...After I get my editing computer replaced of course!

    It bears out that you'd only get 6 watts. I noticed during the initial camera pan of the unit that the voltage input said 12 volts and .5 amp.... well... mathematically, that's 6 watts. Now your test was done using a much larger current source, but it follows that the company, Kinter, knows that their amp can only put out 6 watts.

    • @wal
      @wal  10 років тому

      And that would be 6 watts assuming 100% efficiency. I think they intended it to say 12V 5A, but either way, 500W is a pipe dream

    Thanks for the video. I´m in the quest of building a home made 2.1 speaker system. But i havent been able to find a good amp. I have thought about placing a Soundigital 400.4 to get it going but i don´t know if car amps are any good for home audio. Could you advise me on some good amp at a good price? Thanks

      +Flavio Gomes I've been testing the small amp boards using the TPA3118 and 3116 based chips and they perform well for simple 2.1 setups. Test videos coming soon...

    You're right about that figures man, on spot. And, guys, you know how much more than 2x5W can you expect from a handful of amp. I wanted to ask you though, and that matters more to me - how do you find the sound when you don't push it redline? I mean, is it horrid, not-that-bad, fair, enjoyable, or actually-not-bad-at-all? ;) Thanks.

    @SuperBrandango No... That's how you wire a speaker in parallel... It is as I said... I mono signal split into two and then reverse the polarity of one... (Swap + with -) and then the + from each channel goes into the woofer.

    @DUBDUECE05 Amen...too bad not everyone knows or does research before buying. Maybe they'll find this in their google search before they waste their money (or at least realize the limitations).

    my car has only one speaker. how would i combine both channels to one speaker? can it be done? I don't know anything about speakers or amps. Sorry if this is a silly question.

    • @wal
      @wal  11 років тому

      You will need to look for an amp that's "bridgeable". This will allow you to combine both channels into one. This amp is not bridgeable.

      +Lea Lamont no power, no ground, no remote or dead amp. Use multimeter to check voltage at amplifier, should be around 12-13 volts

    I used to run my JL's off a Proton D275. Boston's for mids and highs. It's funny how I got out of car stereo and into home audio. But someday want to do a SQ system. I roll my eyes at these crappy installs that are nothing more than "noise". I bought a 350z Roadster a few years ago and often thought about a SQ system but I hardly even drive it.

    I second the pyle plmrmp1a amp test. I know a lot of people use them to make cooler radios. I keep telling them it is crap but I would like to see the actual test.
