- This is video showing an easy configuration setup for Vault-warden on Raspberry Pi. In my opinion this is the easiest way to get started self hosting.

They did it. The rewrote passwords in Rust
it was only a matter of time
Soon everything will be done in Rust
First release of Vaultwarden was Jul 13, 2018. Just fyi lol
Ah yes, port forwarding. Definitely safer for the average user.
im fine paying bitwarden $10 a year
Holy shit, you completely forgot to mention backups 🤦
That's on you, buddy.
@gatolibero8329 yeah but he is trying to give advice. Telling people to put all of their passwords on to a micro SD card and then not saying that you should do backups is awful advice
@ then don't take the advice and move on? about 34% of adults USE password managers. of that, even fewer are going to acknowledge the importance of hosting their own. i have a hunch if you're willing to configure your own password manager, you'll take backups into account, and if you don't, then it's a learning lesson. there is only so much catering you can do in quasi satirical UA-cam video. it's not by any means full blown technical video.
@@gatolibero8329 An online password manager removes the need for backups inherently, it's not going to be something a lot of first-timers think of. Backups are important and should probably be acknowledged. This kind of 'learning lesson' could cost a person a lot. Telling people 'that's on you buddy' and then full-on gas-masking your own farts when replying to others is terminally online behavior.
If you are hosting a service with user data DO NOT SELF HOST. All it takes is for a burglar or a house fire to create a data loss disaster
can you make a video about self-hosting with more details and specifics? not everything was understandable for me at least not on this part of the topic
like how to built a reverse proxy, so i can add devices from my local network to "proxy network" and it will be accessible from the web via https or proxy client?
Cloud is convenient but was such a bad way for the tech industry to go all because of cloud hype. We need to get rid of the cloud
Cloud is great for geo-location and geo-replication. But if you don't have the need to have at least one replica in each contintent/country, cloud is overkill. Managed cloud is generally overkill for individuals.
you lost me at self hosting this service over the internet. yeah, not sharing your IP is going to keep it safe, totally 🤦
Genuinely insane
what do you think about keepass and storing its database locally?
Yeah many password manager reviewers completely ignore it for some reason
Yeah self hosting is better for privacy of course, but as long as you have multiple factors setup for each of your logins, it shouldn't really matter where the passwords are stored and who can access them. Not a real guarantee that the passwords are as safe as at home, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Not at the moment at least
Is it possible to have Cloudflare tunnel? It may kind of defeat purpose or not
Cloudflare tunnel vs. VPN is basically the same when it comes to you accessing your own data securely. For the former, you don't have to open any ports but have to trust Cloudflare, or at least be willing to allow the possibility of letting the Cloudflare tunnel phone home. For the latter, you are completely responsible for everything and need an open port. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but either won't defeat the purpose of keeping your passwords private (as long as the Cloudflare tunnel is not running on the same server you host your passwords on, if you want to go the safer route).
Excellent video
For all the angry "you didn't provide no backup suggestions!" comments.
You can export an encrypted JSON version of your database - from within BitWarden - and upload it to a secure cloud drive or USB stick.
It's on YOU to actually backup your password data. There's no automation (yet).
So stop crying.
or just write your passwords in a (eventually encrypted) text file on your pc instead of doing all of this completely useless stuff
