Hi, from my experience sometimes these drives need " audio scd -r rw". drive jusr check that yes cd r is in, but because it is not äudio formatted" then just abort copy or record procedure. Check if you can get those cd-r audio and try with them. Cheers

Thanks for confirming - yes these consumer models all need the dedicated music cdr or cdrw to work. I think the laser is shot on this one now as not reading anything. Well at least I have 3 CD playback which could still be useful for recording to minidiscs in LP2 mode :)

Hi, every laser pick up have unique values of reading current and write current. This values is programed in EEPROM on CD recorder main board. Swaping laser pick up or main board is not allowed without correct calibration and re-programming laser values in EEPROM (with special diagnostics PC tool from Philips)
Recording, or copy disc to Maxell CD-RW is lottery. Many Philips CD recorders have problem working correctly with this disc.
Try recording to Maxell CD-R XL-II 80min disc, Verbatim Music disc, or MediaRange CD-R Audio disc.
Copy disc with 2x speed is "fast" dubbing of disc. Try copy in 1x speed mode (listening mode) - select this with "REC TYPE" button.
Recording from AUX - in this mode recorder waiting to incoming signal from RCA Analog / Digital/ optical input. When signal is present and VU meters kicking, then recording will start.
Enjoy your Philips CDR802. I have same machine CDR802 and CDR820.
