He had an English phrase book and would go up to people with a crappy German accent and ask "Wo is the place for me to my bottom to empty into?" regardless of their answer, he would say hmmm, flip through he phrase book and say something else. I thought it was funny. My favorite were his French Lessons cassette he would listen to. "French traveling abroad. Lesson 1. I hate you. I hate your food. I hate your country. I hate your face. Je deteste vu. Je deteste etat. Je deteste..."
One just has to appreciate the love for detail and the accuracy on historical facts... A household lacking a decent chunk of suet literally translated to "not having something edible at one's disposal AT ALL" in post-feudal Germany.
If I could say something to the Monty-Python crew, I think that I would tell them that in my opinion, no ensemble before them, no people since, nobody now and I don't think that there ever will be, a completely unique collection of comedic genius like them. You blokes sadly really have no idea what revolutionary and enormously talented humorists you all have been. No worries Connie, I'm not forgetting you. ❤️❤️❤️.

What a lost it would have been...) But you are absolutly rigth with your statement, they are the best example for me, that 6 individuals, who we propably never would hearded of as more than Sidekicks (except John Cleese..), took the rigth decision, to join each other for better, nope, for best.
Those aren't supposed to be NY-ish accents, they are supposed to be Yiddish accents, and are a joke on the fact that the title cards say it's filmed in Beirut with a Jewish director and producer. But they are (presumably intentionally) butchered.
It's too bad they cut this. It's beautifully shot and lit with handsome production design/costuming and genuinely funny to boot. I think even Jones regretted cutting it.
One of the best things about Python is that, though it can be funny on its face to just about anybody, the more you know about the things they're referencing, the more hilarious it is.

terry jones and eric idle were the best in drag grahm was really good too though john cleese is my least favorite in drag , but he is still good too though espesially as ann elk. terry gilliam ive hardly ever seen in drag but dressed uop as everything else . i saw him in drag once in monty python luive mostly. in his older age.

you never seen this because it was a deleted scene from Montyu Python's The Meaning Of Life. The scene has been added on the Special Edition DVD. At the main screen you can select "theatrical" or "extended" and any Deleted scene that is on the DVD will play at the appropriate place in the movie uf you select extended.
When theater director Joseph Papp created Shakespeare In the Park in NYC, many of his actors spoke with thick NY accents. It made news, and many people attended performances just to laugh at the actors. The Python's would have heard of it and turned into this skit.
My oh my, so VERY many details of brilliance in this bit! The interior scene that is decidedly "drawn" from Vermeer paintings? Genius level comedic AND aesthetic brilliance on top of ALL of the other details aplenty! How much I miss this level of inspired entertainment in these bland, derivative and completely fungible "weak as water" days of infotainment in a failing world!
I absolutely LOVE how Python humor can be both highly intellectual, and incredibly silly at the same time. I doubt that half the population gets most of the jokes in this skit. The history of the Protestant Reformation isn’t going to make the “10 most interesting things to discuss” list of very many people.

I think it was written by Jones, but apparently it wasn't popular amongst certain tall members of Monty Python with a Cambridge education.

@@autumnicleaf I think you're all reading too much into this. Spoons are just absurdly funny in the context, being such a mundane object, so that's probably why the Pythons went for it, rather than some actual historical references.
Terry Jones is such an underrated member of the Pythons.
