Thanks for showing the minimalist style of bullet journaling. The creator of the bullet journal method, Ryder Caroll, has described it as "mindfulness disguised as productivity" and I love that purpose.

This was very helpful. I’m struggling a lot with a horrific depressive episode. I’m going to track brushing my teeth and having a shower. It’s nothing for most people but most days I’m not doing it ❤️ I also think it will help my doctor understand where I’m at

I’ve been habit tracking for a couple years (I didn’t know there was a name for it!) and I find it comforting too. It does motivate me, and is more or less designed for accountability, but even when I don’t have a “good” week, it’s a great way to feel like I’m paying attention and I care about these areas of my life (sleep, exercise, drinking, intermittent fasting hours). I feel like this is nerdy and I love that about it. It’s like I’m an amateur scientist tracking important stuff. It is fun and makes me feel like my life is on track.

References to Dr Ramani are GREAT. Citations are GREAT. The more info you impart the better you have assisted. Pointing out these helpful hints is really Great. Thanks..

I did a similar thing with tracking my spending in a phone app (Hello Expense). Every time I spend money I note how much, what category, and any details. Just observing and noting with ZERO expectations or judgements did SO much to change my spending habits. (Making budgets in advance never did anything for me.)
I'm going to try tracking other things. Thanks for the idea, Kyle. And thank you for reminding us it's NOT a to do list with a built in "all or nothing failure mentality".

Bullet journalling has been great tbh. I just scribble and jot down whatever comes to mind. The collection system is great. The habit tracking makes me sad so I stopped LOL too many empty tables.
I used to be consumed by it and dropped it for years. Restarted after watching WeezyWaiter's interview with the creator of the BuJo system. He has ADHD like me and explained how he also uses it for actual journaling thoughts and feelings. I've started that as well and it's been so much easier to journal since I don't feel like I have to write beautiful prose. I just use bullets like "• felt sad, feelings hurt by John Doe".

I've heard the term and seen the dotted paper but never knew the why and how or that they were connected. My biggest problem right now is being motivated for any of it - I typically buy some sort of journal every year only to end up throwing it out unused if it's dated or shoving it in the back of a drawer. Thanks for explaining how simple this can be, and I agree that putting it on paper would be better - I've tried a few apps and even with reminders set, I typically ignore them if I'm in the middle of something, even if it's just internet shopping. Also, one of my issues is that I already spend far too much time on my phone. And most importantly, thank you for sharing yourself so openly and the ways that you work on your own mental health. Your videos are so helpful and I love watching and learning from them (especially the interviews with the amazing Dr Ramani!) 👏👏👏💜

Yeah I don't want paintings, amazing calligraphy, expensive crafting where I put appointments, habits, feelings because I don't want to keep that journal info around forever for others like loved ones, medical providers, even strangers eventually to see. So, it will eventually be trashed. Who can keep endless books of journaling? That would call for a clutter tracker, lol! I tried tracking lots of stuff for a month. At the end of the month, I was thinking yeah, so? Trackers aren't all that fulfilling. If you need to do it for a medical follow-up appointment or really feel the need to be aware of something for a change you want, sure do it. But like you say be choosey and only track a few things. I highly recommend reading/watching something funny everyday, laughter is so good for the health.

I can see why some people have multiple journals if each one only tracks a few things. I tend to track certain things when my focus is there, make my own spreadsheets for that, or print out a page to track if I gave my cat his medicine 2x a day. I grabbed small little notebooks when I had a baby and used a page a day to track diaper changes, feedings, sleep, and new foods introduced, teething, unusual stuff. Reaction to a new food? That kind of thing. My brain was mush and it was great for the doctor visits. for decades I used a pre-printed planner for work, to do list, and then the timed and dated calendar pages for what ACTUALLY got done. Even personal stuff, what I spent in a day and on what and where /how the money came from (check, debit card, credit card, cash) and what i ate when that mattered. When each day started, I already had stuff listed that needed to be done that day and appointments. Still have them. Would not have those if they were digital because digital stuff gets lost and never recovered. I tracked before there was an internet, so analog was how it worked

One great page or cover is fine. If it's a page bullet point it photocopy it and save time. It's great to have something that brings joy. You might be more inclined to return to it. You can create a collage of joyful pictures or comics. Anything you enjoy.

Hey Kyle, how are you today? I recently discovered medcircle and I love it! I learned a lot from the interviews with Dr. Ramani and this video was a real eye-opener for me. I have done bullet journaling before but quit because I actually got depressed from mostly not being able to check that box. In every video you see they work toward goals and if you haven't met that goal, it is seen as a fail. You however showed me that it's not about meeting that goal but it's actually about tracking what you ARE doing and drawing conclusions out of that data. Looking at what you can change or do and not looking at what you would want to change or do ( or what people expect from you). Working with what you can instead of chasing things you will (probably) never be able to achieve. It's a totally different approach and one were I don't have to feel guilty or feel like what I did wasn't enough. Being more realistic in your abilities is so important. It doesn't mean I give up on my goals but it means I look how I can break up those goals in smaller steps and I try to be more realistic in how much time I need to finish these smaller steps. And of course remind myself that I don't HAVE to do/finish these tasks, but every task I was able to achieve is a bonus 😊 thank you soooooooo much for posting this video and thank you for the amazing work you do to help others deal with difficult situation and providing so much information about the psyche of mankind 😁 much love, Jolene 😘💖💗
Ps: please say thank you to Dr. Ramani from me for sharing her amazing insight in
-how the human brain works -the different possibilities of disorders
-how to deal with all these things
    And so much more!
    Much love, Jolene

So glad I stumbled upon this video. I started tracking assorted health things in a planner when I was pregnant and it helped me better communicate things with my doctor. Directing a bullet journal toward my mental health is new but, as I'm starting therapy, I needed something to continue that.

I do use it as a goal setter. At least, that’s how I’ve been using it. And that being said, I’ll look at my journal once a week. I love this idea of tracking what I’m actually doing! I also know it’s meant to replace all the other books that you have. Such as, your calendar, your journal, even a sketchpad. I find myself using 2 to 3 journals sometimes still for different things. I’m going to try this approach of using my bullet journal for everything

My Fitbit tracks my sleep (3 hrs) and exercise, I track hours worked (for future use up with my employer). I could track eating between meals (emotional eating), mood and Self Care (0). Medications are in my shaving kit, if I shave and brush my teeth I take pills. My problem is it would be too much effort to draw these tables every week. Would be easier to keep a spreadsheet.

Thanks for sharing this! I try to use Bipolar UK Mood Diary (sleep, meds and mood) with one graph for the whole month, printed on A4 sheets, so i can easily lay them out in line and better see the dynamics. There are difficulties in determining your mood, though, especially if you're bipolar or cyclothymic with "mixed states".

Oof, how would this track my hours-at-a-time insomnia?! BTW, thanks for offering a lot of forgiveness in your video. And Uniball Micro is the best, especially in purple! 😉

    • @recoveringsoul755
      @recoveringsoul755 3 роки тому

you could get a little notebook with at least 24 lines per page (for each hour of the day) and use a page for each day. Mark it in purple if you're awake? Maybe jot a note for if you ate or drank something that might cause insomnia, or a stressful event or emotional thing that might keep you awake, nightmare etc. Not sure what is going on for you. (Or you could get 12 lines per page and draw a line down the middle of the page to make two columns, for AM and PM. STart at 12am on the left column and start 12pm at noon on the right column. See what the dollar store has).
I used to get migraines so i'd track foods that were known to trigger migraines until I figured out which ones were MY triggers

When people have normal feelings and emotions and are stuck on processing those feelings and emotions, it becomes a mental health problem. It’s unfortunate. Medications are over prescribed in this country to ignore reality and not a strategy to working through them. Kyle, it’s nice that you are tracking habits to learn patterns on medications (Prozac which causes insomnia), how you feel! Yes, What if you have too much accumulated in your system? What if you were dehydrated? What if you didn’t eat enough fiber to bind and escort the toxins out of your body? Get off the prozac and stop being so hard on yourself!

Maybe it's right for those with anxiety disorder, hypochondria or OCD. But Kyle has a diagnosed depression for decades, and we actually see those "normal feelings and emotions" and all the videos due to Kyle's regular (mostly)) medication.
