  • the tragedy of root, john or harold is obvious to most viewers. however, it is easy to forget about sameen's inner struggles and label her as the badass of the group. i made this to put my conscience to peace and duly express how much i love her. she is a revolutionary female character, in much the same way root is. cannot thank the writers enough for creating her and then comitting to her character continuity until the end. there will never be one like her.

You did an excellent job capturing the complexity of Sameen Shaw. This made me wish there was a season 6 so we could've delved into the after-effects of the simulations. Those did turn the volume up when it came to her feelings.

oh, thank you for these words!! so much. it matters a lot to me because i did worry i'd done a lousy job.
i do agree, her experience with simulations heightened her perception of emotions. i think it was so because samaritan analyzed her feelings and built situations around them. it must have made her look at exactly what she sensed all these years in true color. all the things she'd hidden away in her conscious back to the surface. a beautiful arc indeed.

@@carolperry7695 i don't see it that way-the stakes tend to get higher as a story progresses, and for that you need a more terrifying opposing party. besides, even if i were to agree, it doesn't cancel out the fact that the show is phenomenal in every other aspect.

This is a really interesting retrospective that moves through layers that Shaw was working to repair albeit in kinda a slam-bang bumper car method. She actually is human beneath all that basement rage, and it's discovered by the least likely human Shaw thought would be able to suss her out, a 10 year old child. When Shaw realizes that this child has broken through her death wish body armor and truly understands that she still has a beating piece of humanity left in that shell she thought was dead, by telling Shaw. She did give some hints that she did have some bit of humanity left in her by observing her brief moments of unrestrained JOY she would share w/The only one she would let her guard down to (Bear) the dog.

Thank you very for this amazing and deep video. It represents the beauty of Sameen Shaw character. If you look to the story from outside, Sameen was a rough tough careless sociopath. But a deep internal looking to the story, she is not. The Russian kid saving, the heroic sacrifice to save Root and the others in the elevator, and killing herself over 7000 in the simulations to protect Root and the Machine (and many other occasions), what you call it? lack of feelings? what a SOCIOPATH she was? she was full of silent feelings, but in her way.
"When you find that person who connect you to the world, you become someone different. Someone better.
When that person is taken from you, what do you become then?"~POI
I recently finished all the 5 seasons. I felt empty at the end with nothing can fill the show's gap.
I hope Sarah Shahi will consider more complicated fascinated roles in her career such as Sameen in the future.
Many thanks for this video, looking forward for more.

i feel you about the emptiness. that's largely why i'm making these videos-it's a way to mourn a brilliant, one-of-a-kind show that was cancelled a bit too soon, though on an incredibly impactful, well-crafted note.
i thank you in return for spending your time to watch and comment! means the world.
also i appreciate your looking forward. more videos will come once my real life obligations dissipate a little. i want to do good by the fandom, and that tends to take time.

I liked the show enough to watch, which is rare for me. Into the 2nd season I saw "Relevance". I Loved her and would not miss the show. Many shows forget the importance of casting. The reason the original Star Trek was great was mainly casting. The show was well casted, and well written. Before and when it aired there were lots shoot'em up shows. (Sorry, most say cops and robbers shows.) I didn't watch any of them. This was one that I got into. All the characters, even villains were great. I also "thought she might be a robot".

Shaw does have a good relationship with Bear. For people who had traumatic childhoods, dogs/pets feel safer as companions than human beings. Less likely to betray you, and they don't try to have sex with you.
