Ubisoft Wanted the Yasuke Controversy... | Assassin's Creed Shadows
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- Yasuke being in Assassin's Creed Shadows was fairly obviously motivated by modern day political beliefs.
However I believe that the executives at Ubisoft greenlit this decision knowing the controversy would get a massive number of eyeballs on the game while distracting paying customers who wouldn't notice all of the scummy monetisation practises.
How the hell is this game getting massive preorder numbers despite their being zero gameplay and multiple entries in a row being lazy, copy and pastes of Origins?
I want to see Ubisoft go bankrupt.
Why
Well, they're losing money as we speak..
I second that
This some real hater shit
They already losing money with their bad business practices. Give it time.
I swear to god consumers are getting dumber and dumber. Nobody seems to care when they're being blatantly milked or ripped off. They just keep throwing money at blatantly anti-consumer products and companies without even stopping to think for a moment. And there are so many examples out there.
Gamers get the industry they deserve. Sucks the rest of us have to suffer too.
The thing is this title has been long awaited, it’s not our fault Ubisoft are pieces of trash woke sissies wit pronouns dripping out they butt holes. The game has potential but Ubisoft are a bunch of morons worried bout a political agenda instead of making a great game. It could be worse tho, they coulda made Yasuke a Gay Non Binary Transgendered samurai 🤣🤣😭😭
Because they use their parent money, not theirs, which most likely the case.
When you force a dive in the price of your stock, it's usually to buy what people sell at a lower price than natural.
Disney is a great example.. people sell shares when it looks bleak.. when they panic.. then Iger's friends can buy those stocks for cheap.
Disney is dying, that's not some cunning corporate strategy. Their bread and butter income streams are dying, no one goes to the cinema, no one has the same reverance over animation and without the icon characters that define childhoods no one's interested in their endless merch mountain and decaying theme parks either.
Ubisoft has cancelled so many games, they need like 5 good making games. Their financials are trash.
That's the thing. They CAN'T produce good games as they are obligated by ESG/DEI initiatives to produce slop.
@KA-vs7nl true they also like to squeeze every dime out of their games. Ubisoft most likely to go bakrupt or have to sell Ips and fire a lot of people
What do you think this game is about? It's their effort to cope over their failure as game company. They can't even satisfy investor anymore given how much monetization put into the game to cope the loss while insult their fanbase by milking them over a product that are guaranteed would never be owned after purchase.
@@RejHiman yep ubisoft will be a dead company
Me after watching Shogun and now playing Ghost of Tsushima...why UBISOFT why its so easy to do good ,we all know why DEI,ESG,modern audience, sad reality we live in...eh its gonna be another AC they are all the same in the end.shame
Just like every far cry is the same
@@icepicjoey Even that Avatar game was a far cry reskin🤣
This game has Sweet Baby Inc written all over it. They went with Yasuke since Ghost of Tsushima and Rise of Ronin puts anything AC/Ubisoft to dust. The game costs 130$. Lets hope with this and Star Wars Outlaws run this company into the ground.
Don't forget Sekiro Shadows Die Twice and Nioh 1&2. We really don't need Ubislop's crap take on Feudal Japan. Their a decade late to the Feudal Japan game party.
Hoping this and Outlaws flop hard like Skull And Bones did.
I honestly doubt the claims of success for this game. it won't be the first time for AAA execs and the woke journos to lie about things like this.
I agree, it's from the school of pretend everything is going great right up until you fall off a cliff. Pretty standard corporate behavior honestly.
Agreed - seems more like the hightening of selfvalue before the companies selling for bigger price - I can believe that people can be stupid, But even stupid are rarely professionale poopeaters...
Heard Ubislop was using bots/AI to generate false hype for Star Wars Outlaws on social media. DOA...
Consumers are just consumers.
Take NIKE and their sweatshops for instance.. people don't care.
Historical fact . No one needs to like it no one need to agree with it . Yasuke was a servant and retainer to Japanese Daimyo Oda Nobunaga . Not a samurai . Retainer is the guy that cares the swords of his lord . Personally i doubt that Yasuke was even allowed to pull the sword out of the sheath
I agree they would probably call it treason and kill him

I doubt the rumors on pre orders being strong are real. Otherwise their stock would not have dived the way it did after the trailer dropped. This sounds like damage control to distract from the dismal reception it got similar to how Volition was pretending everything was fine with Saints Row 4.
Yeah we know. They think that view numbers are more important than paying customers so of course they wanted the controversy. Unfortunately views won't give you a paycheck.
Yeah I knew it. I don't care as much if Yasuke is depicted in the game as one of the playable protagonists as I care about Ubisoft's motives behind that decision. They're just using Yasuke to check diversity boxes and as a shield from any and all form of criticism. That is the only reason they not only decided to change things up in this installment of this over decade and half old franchise and use an actual person from history as one of the protagonists but also out of all the dozens if not hundreds of well known Japanese samurai they went with the one in a million foreigner oddity that was Yasuke. The monetization is the real problem here, though.
Yasuke was the best Samurai ever. He was also the best rapper ever, going under the name of Yasuk-Diddy. He made a fortune from his own-branded Yasuke trainers, later re-branded to YaNike.
They went with an era where samurai was a generic term that basically just meant "warrior that serves a feudal lord" on purpose because Yasuke does fit this definition for Samurai easily.
So they get to shoehorn a POC samurai and keep the real historians off their back as well.
And now we're all talking about this game. Honestly, deviously smart move on the part of the Ubisoft marketing team.
It wasn't a generic term, it has always been largely an inherited class. But in this time period there was still a degree of social mobility, one COULD be raised to samurai class through one's merits, unlike the more rigid class system of later centuries.
@@TanukiDigital find me a detailed, contemporary definition for samurai. From the 16th century, of course.
@@jeanbethencourt1506 Everytime I put a link in a youtube comment I get deleted so go find it yourself.
@@TanukiDigital according to historian Thomas Lockley “You don’t have to possess any particular killing skills to be a samurai..anybody who took up weapons on behalf of a lord could technically call themself a samurai, or could be called a samurai".
Not sure why people try to apply the meaning of Samurai from the later time periods to the Sengoku era but it happens way too often.
@@jeanbethencourt1506 I wonder if he's conflating the term "bushi" with "samurai". Bushi was a bit of a generalized term referring to combatants / warriors, whereas samurai were quite specifically those employed by the nobility, since the classical era, which formed into a family inherited class status. Samurai were synonymous with Bushi, but not necessarily the other way around.
Thats my read on it too. I can't imagine a writer featuring such an ambiguous protagonist; unless they were aiming to create controversy.
For me, the series hit a crescendo with ACIII: Revolution & Liberation. Then Black Flag & Syndicate bookend the first half, and simulatenously set you up on the road to the marvelous Odyssey; which is the end.
It seems obvious to me now that a regime change was the reason why Odyssey was never finalised. We got a bit of it with Korfu.
For a workplace they're far too political. I think everybody can see it.
Honestly I don't think it matters at all, people get mad, people get sad. If the game is good it doesn't matter what our opinion is.
We pre order because we know the gameplay is going to be the exact same as origins, odyssey, Valhalla, and mirage. We aren’t dumb enough to think there’s something new we know exactly what we getting so there’s that
Pre-order numbers are high? But where is the data?
Buying ultimate edition you wont get a full game. There'll be dlc expansions like in Valhalla Ragnarok where you need to pay extra not to mention other perks and skins for extra money. And yeah skins aren't only cosmetic stuff. They'll be superior to normal skins with more interesting perks and look. And even for pre-order you unlock some extra quest. Valhalla had some extra small quests where you need to buy for ubisoft coins.
If you have a PS5 try Rise of the Ronin if you want your Samurai fix or Ghost of Thushima if you got steam.
And assuming they are not making those sells number just to apease the investor and stop the fall of the stocks. i think wont be dificult for then to buy a number of copies themselves in the pre order to say to investor and the press look the game is doin well. of course that just a theory with no evidence
It's more like they made massive losses with Skull and Bones and are now overpricing their upcoming games to overcompensate...
Yup, apparently Ubisoft know its brainwashed audience all too well.
All the normies ALWAYS buy AC just like COD and the sports games - I knew that it would do well even if it’s generic as it comes
You have no idea how people play these Assassins Creed games. My brothers deceased friend has finished ALL of the Assassins Creed games and he platinum'd all of them as well. He does not take that many breaks playing these and he loved them, although he did take breaks in Valhalla, saying it was "not as good". Still did not stop him from Platting it too.
Hee Hee, Thank You for Another Great One, "Beloved Embodied Immortal".
Ubisoft demands players to pay monthly on ps plus to continue playing their games 🤷 They deserve to be forgotten ☝️
Yea they are just saving face with that tweet, because the general populous are not gamers.. look at the ratio 40k down in Japan, and outlaw is gettin hit hard too.
Yasuke wasn't legendary whether he was a samurai or not he surrendered.
Check out the videos on Yasuke the Metatron did. Very informative. The Shoganate has also done some good work on the topic.

Your right I don’t care about the controversy and I pre ordered just like I did for rise of ronin and ghost of Tsushima and Wo Long because it’s my money 😁
They been doing this for years now you guys talking about now
Ubislop originally had a Japanese monk to be the protagonist and he looked awesome and obviously fit the role but instead they switched to a DEI box tick. I don't care what anyone says this is disrespectful and kinda racist by removing an actual Japanese man for a black man
If this was reversed and a Japanese person was replacing a black person in Africa people would lose their shit but obviously here it's OK because its a double standard that and western developers hate Japanese culture because they don't bend the knee
Japan should ban ubisoft for disrespect to their culture.
Trust and believe the people who are buying the newest AC games are in fact normies (the same who buys CoD and Fifa), every one i know who was a fan of old AC games has completely abandoned this series.
lmao yasookay. people, the u is silent. yaske....yasuke was a real person. sold to nobunaga oda who made him a kosho. NOT a samurai. closest western equivalent of a kosho would be like a page or almost akin to a squire. he accompanied him and held his weapons.

Notice that all characters or stories that are set in non African cultures that get "diversified" for the sake of "representation" are ONLY nearly always black? Anytime you turn on the BBC and watch some drama about the British Aristocracy they start swapping them out for blacks. They turned Achilles, and Zeus black. Heck, they even had a black Viking queen, who was based off of a real life Norse Chieftan. You play god of War and see a random Norse god turned black. Lord of the Rings show...Black dwarfs, elves, hobbits and even the human Queen is turned black. I though this was all about "diversity?" Are asians not "diverse" enough for them? Let me know when they have a Latino Dr. Who, or a an Asian Merlin, just like how they made them black. I guarantee you won't, and I guarantee if that DID happen, you would not hear the end of it from blacks complaining about their "representation."
And The Witcher? Cleopatra? All of this is not a "just" or a "only" kind of "case", it's about a well thought "strategy" forced into every culture by pop culture means😒.
@@Hellion73EXACTLY others are getting the notion of bigotry and apparently think it’s a political insert this is for sure not the case by most means except that Ubisoft wanted to get a rise out of people anything as far as not liking the game really does not apply since that’s emotion when people do not research hard enough they literally don’t know yasukes quoted history and make big claims that he wasn’t this or that it’s sad!
First off African Asians are not excluded from your claims that the darkskin wasn’t there and as far as the Viking the trans Saharan slave trade led to the Vikings encountering African slaves and taking the back then integrate Vikings learned many things and of course very very few Vikings were darkskin

I think you’re giving Ubisoft more credit than they deserve with them knowing this would happen. Usually these decisions are made years in advance and most likely when it was green lit, the whole DEI thing was not getting the same type of backlash that it is now. If anything, for them they thought it was probably going to be the norm. 36+ months later, the societal philosophy is not quite the same but they already when into development so it’d be too late to change. Development costs money to plan and if they wanted to change it last min it’d cost way too much. Source: I work in development
Yep and the general populous are not gamers, they’ll tune in but doesn’t mean they’ll buy or play on.
Yasuke wasn't a Samurai, he was a pet. An oddity, an exhibit... a token novelty in the court of a Daimyo. You know, when I say it like that, I can start to understand why he was chosen...
Where are you getting these pre-order numbers from? Color me suspicious.
"The Chronicles of Nobunaga" (信長公記, Nobunaga Kōki), a historical document written by Ota Gyuichi in the late 16th century. This text mentions Yasuke as a retainer of Oda Nobunaga and suggests that he was indeed recognized as a samurai.
Where is your source?
Worst choice for an assassin in this setting, a guy who sticks out like a sore thumb...
hes not a assassin the woman is
Are you sure about that?
The official trailer sure seems like it's hinting at the samurai and ninja working together as assassins.

Ninja/Naoe:...that serve the light".

the like and dislike ratio on the trailer speaks volume and the drop on their stocks alone. the only reason that the pre-order numbers are healthy is most likely attributed to the shills that like it which you can find basically on the official twitter response saying they are hyped for it which is basically your typical AC community fanatics. We've seen this bs before AC Origins when the game was pumped out on a yearly basis and each year the same shills would claim the next AC will be different but then when it came out we get the buyer's remorse, nothing was learned till even they had enough and so Ubisoft did the Origin game promising they'll stop the bs but here we are again.
Even if the game had a Japanese male character people will still hate it for being overpriced, and no gameplay in the trailer
People could just buy the base game, who really cares about the overpriced addons?
People will still buy it if Ubisoft didn't do what they fuking did.
Their business and marketing if the game is utterly stupid
I would not tuch that game with that trash one bit
Gaming industry is now doing the "all press is good press", contrary to what the loud voices on either said want you to believe, if someone is able to form their own opinion on something then even bad press is just free advertising. Hell before i saw the trailer i heard about it through the drama.
Though, might be just me but how many controversies that are engineered or not before people realize many industries are hedging their bets on the free advertising that all forms of social media, which would include this said video also talking about it. Hell you can even look up the Indian Elections on the BBC on how they are also realizing the sheer power of influencers, not for actually swaying public opinion but acting as a free billboard and if you are pushing an agenda then you get paid.
"The game is going to suck."
-I don't think you can possible imagine how low bar the "normies" have. Their bar is not on the ground...its below the ground. And yes, they are impulsive buyers, just throw fancy visuals at them and they all jump on it like a fish on colorful lure. To them, this might be a very cool game because they don't follow the plot, they don't pay attention to the world, they don't pay attention to the game mechanics either. In fact, they are pretty much NPC as it is possible to be NPC and yet classify as human.
Ubisoft know their audience well. It has trained/brainwash them well over the years. Its because normies we cant have good games. You can vote with your wallet sure but...normies outnumbering us.
The culprit is in the top ten of shareholders for this company and nearly every other traded game/creative/tech/entertainment company. AI-addicted monetization parasite investors. You’ll find a VanG with this one, a BRock for others - but most have both. They have collectively bought their way to the top 5 in most cases. Whatever they touch shifts to this sub model predatory pricing AI-addled husk of their former selves.
Whomever is still buying Ubislop, I don't think they can be reached. They must have lost all higher-thinking skills, or they were raised with the American education system since 2000, which is interchangeable.
I'm just sad to hear, the numbers are still that high...
They lost the Japanese audience so you know. Great job, Ubi$oft.
I wanted a samurai AC game sooooo bad back in the day (when Ubisoft didn't suck).
This toothless, pathetic, risk averse company never ever dared to make a Japan AC game, but now that ANOTHER company made a BETTER AC game with Ghosts of Tsushima, only then they make a game in this setting.
But now they completely and absolutely suck so goddamn hard. Garbage company
Shareholders have seen stock tank
I genuinely don't think anybody is pre ordering...Either Ubisoft is just faking numbers or it could be people are subscribing to the Ubisoft plus rather than pre ordering...And that's what they are calling as pre orders
Yea of course it's a success lol. I'm surprised anyone thought this would flop. It's AC and takes place in Japan. The last one sold insane numbers and this ones probably more sought after.
I think if the game is fun people will play it. Controversy aside that's a tiny minority of people on Twitter. Most are detached from all that. They see AC they buy. In Japan? Even cooler, especially with Shogun show being a smashing hit.
Assassin's Creed the Madden of action games
The game is set in feudal Japan... Why not make Hattori Hanzō the protagonist?
▪︎ Hattori Hanzō is already mentioned in other A.C. media (also a member of the "Japanese Brotherhood of Assassins"), in ''Assassin's Creed: Memories''.
▪︎ He was a famous samurai & ninja, of the Sengoku era, who served the 'Tokugawa clan' as a general.
He was credited with saving the life of Tokugawa Ieyasu and then helping him to become the ruler of united Japan.
Fools willfully buying propaganda is why the game industry will never be what it used to be ever again.
Yeah we know yasuke existed but the reason they did this is for box checking I swear DEI is ruining games also why buy the game knowing ubisoft said you don't actually own it
I've already said it and I'll say it again to people. Who cares? It's a video game. It's assassin's creed. Everyone is whining about it cause they're focusing on the politics of it. It's a video game! As long as gameplay is good, I don't give a shit who's in the game. Give me good quality gaming and I'm good. I think it's gonna be good.
At the end of the day I don't give a fuck about a black protagonist, the biggest issue i have with the game is the always online and the "projects" system. And of course the $190 price tag.
I'll wait for ghost of tsushima 2 for a new medieval japan game.
"How the hell is this game getting massive preorder numbers despite their being zero gameplay and multiple entries in a row being lazy, copy and pastes of Origins?"
Easy, a copy pasted Origins with a Japan reskin is still appealing. Same thing happens to sports games and CoD.
I don't get how vagalha made them so much money, is their worst game, I played them all except mirage. I do play them all at once(dont play other games in between sessions) I always play a game all at once...
Let's ignore the shadow in the room and focus on the god damn huge prices, 40$ seasonpass when we don't know what dlc are they making, in valhalla dawn of ragnarok wasn't part of season pass, odyssey i think has 2 season passes.
Most people never learn about modern gaming pre-orders; expect mass refunds when the game reviewed. Buying pre-orders encourage those corporations to exploit the players.
Damn I didn’t even think they would use DEI as a distraction for the overpriced ticket. They’ll get a ton of wokies to dump their money into this no question 😂
