Many years ago, I had a 309 & loved it. But I needed a portable keyboard. The 309 was sold to a “proper” pianist who loved the action. So that shows how good CVP ‘s were even then. I’ve heard 709 & 809 side by side & the latest model is clearly A SERIOUS upgrade! My guilty pleasure would be a white 809. So, if you do come across one, for goodness sake do (not) let me know!! UPDATE My white 809 is being delivered tomorrow. Yay!!!
Despite owning a Yamaha C-5 Conservatory Series 6'7" grand and a CVP-600 (mini grand) both in Polished Ebony, I just wish that Yamaha would make a reasonably priced upgrade kit, up to $2-3K for us loyal Yamaha Customers who have higher models of CVP series :) that will enable the keeping of the nice looking and sounding mini grand body & speaker system, to replace the little dated internal arranger sound module, or even with the updated keyboard that can get slide out and replaced ?! :) Since 88 keys piano is pretty much standard in width, such an available upgrade kit for a good higher end CVP (or even if available for add-on to my acoustic grand), will make us loyal Yamaha customers' instruments "Somewhat Ageless" like the acoustic grand :) Just like in the Guitar World and Electronic Drums world, that one can replace the guitar pickups, or the Drum Brain Module with a newer or different ones, while keeping the existing good guitar body or higher end drum pads and cymbals, will make a lot of sense for the owners and the environment too, right ?! :) Otherwise, it's kind of hard to justify spending another $15K+ on a newer CVP-809GP that we all know will greatly depreciate as soon as another newer model comes out because it's an electronic keyboard that won't last as long as an acoustic piano ?! :( So for that, I just have to make-do for now till Yamaha hears this idea :), to use a smaller Yamaha PSR, Korg PA, Roland BK or EA series arrangers ?! Meanwhile, I do envy all of you who have a newer CVP-809GP, especially in Polished White one like I had in a Yamaha baby grand before, which doesn't show dust like the Polished Ebony do. But you can also envy my C-5 too :) LOOOL :)
Dear friend I need your help. I have a cvp 709 gp. I made a midi record and now I can not change the voice (instrument). I can remember that it was possible and I have done this before but now I can not... Could you please tell me how to do it again. Thank you so much!
Actually, it is a major upgrade. If you could hear, play and examine the 809 and 709 side by side, you'd see what I mean. I did just that and my white 809 is being delivered tomorrow. The 709 is a great instrument but the 809 is a big step up.
@@RichardHannam Many thanks. I agree. They reallly are different. I'm hoping to get mine at some point. It was ordered 6 months ago, but the supply chain issues. Hopefully Yahama won't come out with a brand new version of this after we've gotten the 809GP. Congrats!
@@MrDcrules A shame you've had to wait so long. I've only waited 6 weeks. And of course they'll bring out a new model. However, there was 4 years between the 700 and 800 series. Each model is based on the latest arranger workstations. So,the 800s are based on Genos/SX900, 700s on Tyros 5 and so on. So if there's a major workstation release a new CVP will follow shortly after. But, as in the past, that doesn't necessarily mean it will be significantly better. Hope that helps.
@@RichardHannam Many thanks. That's very helpful to know. The 809GP really feels like an acoustic piano. The responsiveness of the keys is why i want to get it. I also think the newer speakers make it project even better. Take care. Don
Try the 709 & 809 (and other CVPs) together and you'll hear & feel a difference as well as notice some other subtle changes. If not, buy something considerably cheaper!

@@MetaView7 Cheers £9.5 grand is a lot but, heck, you only live once - I think!

i have a 509
Is there any real difference to the 709 and 809 models? I got the 709 a year ago and Yamaha just released this new one.
bigger (9-inch) touch screen, a bit more sounds, binaural sound sampling, more "modern design" ... but 12500 dollars for PE finition

It is basically the same if there are any upgrades, I bet you can hardly notice it. It is just a model number...

All very good-BUT what are the name of the styles and sounds. Pretty well useless without it.
Can you hear a £2,500 difference?

No difference
Agree
if you can't hear any difference, then you're definitely looking for the wrong instrument.
