I have had a brand new GPSMAP 1243 xsv for a year professionally installed. I have been on the phone with the installer and Garmin several times. This video was a clearer explanation than I have gotten from either company. Thanks

Excellent video Alex, I just bought a Garmin GPSMAP 743xsv. I am going to have it professionally flush mounted. I noticed that there is an SD card in one of the slots. I am not sure what's on the card. Should I leave it in or take it out. I did install a blank card into the second slot, what should I do?

Glad to hear they are helpful! Yes you can, as soon as you update the unit, you no longer need that card in the unit if only using for the update 👍
I have two 106sv’s and they are linked together by a Ethernet cable. Will it update both units or do I need to use the card in each unit separately and unplug the Ethernet cable?
You will want to use the card in each unit to update them both separately

Hey Alex, great video...Im not sure why but when I extract the file from desktop and click on the file folder it opens a folder labeled Garmin and if I open that I get a long list of DAT files....lmk if you have any suggestions! Thank You!
That folder that says Garmin is what needs to move to the SD card, then pop the SD card into your chartplotter and it should prompt for an update
@@AlexTimm Hi Alex, awesome video. I had the .dat files similar to what David described and I moved the Garmin folder to my SD card. When I put the SD card in my ECHOMAP it does not prompt for an update. Instead, I get the options of Manage User Data, Copy Built-in Map, or Create ActiveCaptain Memory Card. Any idea what I might be doing wrong? Thank you.
@@brianberres4288 If the chartplotter is prompting for those options, it isn't seeing the update at all. What chartplotter are you using and which update link / file did you try to use?
@@AlexTimm I have a ECHOMAP Ultra 106sv and it's currently on version 14.10. I downloaded "echoMAP with SD Card software version 2022.0622.0". Thanks for any advice.
I ended up deleting the file on the SD card and going through the process again and the software update worked. I guess I'll chalk it up to user error somewhere in the process :). Thanks again for the video.

Good video. I just received my LVS 34 did my update it restarted when ask but my gls 10 new box still not found. I'm using 10 marine grade wiring.
Did you have the GLS10 plugged in when you did the update?
@@AlexTimm yes I did it show the 2.58 updates on the unit. I put my old gls 10 box back on and it's working now. I try the new black box again not working.
@@jones1394 Check the fuse to it, then I'd try re doing the update and see if it works after a second attempt. If that still doesn't work you likely have a defective black box (not common, but it happens)

hey Alex the Copy to Card part of the step did not come up when I unzipped any ideas why? thanks
They recently updated & changed that step. Once you get the update downloaded and the folder extracted you should see a folder called "Garmin". Just copy and paste that folder directly to the SD card and you are good to go from there. I'll put on my list to make an updated video! Thanks for the note!

Yes, as long as it is the ECHOMAP Plus 44cv and not the discontinued ECHOMAP CHIRP 44cv
If I have two similar Garmin units (GPSmap 942) connected, will I need to do this on both, or will plugging the SD card into just one then update both units?
You need to do it on both, but can use the same card once one is finished just take it out and pop in the other

I had the same issue. In the update from the Garmin website it just says to unzip the file then drag it onto the sd card. Then you unplug it from the pc and into the graph. But my batteries to power my units on won’t be here til Wednesday to see if it worked or not.

does the lakemaster chip work in a garmin livescope unit?
It does not, you need to get the Garmin specific maps. They have some BlueChart maps and Navionics maps now. Both are good, I think they are transitioning over eventually to all Navionics (since they own them)
Can I use an SD card bigger than 32gb?
Mixed results from people depending on the brand card and formatting, but I've had it work but no need really from my experience, haven't really had much data to put on the card to need the bigger size
