Good grief! What a way to wake up in the middle of the night. Leaving was the right thing, but I would tend to take pictures of both signs and ask at the State office giving permits for an interpretation. Sounds very confusing to me! Glad you are in a good spot and looking forward to a tour on the new Ebike!
Whether you have a permit or not, it was a good decision to move for your own safety. If there's any issues with camping, it's best to just move to a new area.

Van life has become so differenthen when I started watching it on UA-cam in 2013 I used to want to do it back then. I'm glad that I couldn't then. And now that I can do it. I wouldn't do it for the world. Because back then you could park anythere never get harassed. Cities were open season to park for Free! That has all changed now. You can't even go away from the cities. And have a free night's parking. It's amazing how much Van life has changed in 10 years. Back then cops couldn't even run you off because they hadn't thought of the word camping in town yet. All of you guys were winning arguments against the cops simply saying. That it is okay to park on the street here. And what does it matter if you sleep in the car or not that argument, and used to win back then? And some of you guys would even show papers to that effect. And the cops would have to leave you alone and go.
You seem to know a lot about vanlife for someone who has never actually lived it. I’ve been living this way for almost 4 years only got the knock one time. Out west you can always find public land to park on that is completely legal. It’s best not to assume things based on what you have only watched on the internet. go out in the real world and you’ll see this lifestyle is still very much doable

It is true that the cops treat Van life's different these days. I was pointing about 2 years ago. When you slept in your vehicle, they started calling it camping. but for some reason. The cops did not think of that and the Van lifer's used to argue. That if it was okay to park overnight, it did not matter if you slept or cooked in your Van. And a couple of the early channels Took the law to court and won

Matty .. I just came thru that area a day ago on my way home from Quartzite. Took the old Salome Rd. down to Gila Bend. I was amazed to see all the power plants and new stuff going in .. that area is going to be .. or already is a major power corridor. And I'm one who never get's permits but if they never get close enough to check, I'm safe .. LOL I can see why they don't want the likes of us camping where all this construction is happening. 🤠 Also, the Skadden Wash was virtually empty. Just me and a school bus about 1/2 mile away.
Police around Phoenix are getting weird with the state trust land. I was on it in Peoria last year and the sheriff and his accomplice came around and made sure everyone had permits. Nothing wrong with that except it's not really their place to enforce. Just seems like a money grab. I'm guessing your cop did see your permit eventually, which is why he left. Can't force you to buy what you already have.
Quartzsite 14 days stays must be 25 miles apart moving back forth , only two locations that meet this req, withinh qyartzsite , only if they dont count entrance of such locations , otherwise 14 day free stay one must move new loc every 14 days n must by 25 miles apart... so LTVA PASS OR MONTHLY IS NEED TO STAY IN QUARTZSITE CITY LIMITS , I USED STATE LANDS AS A 2ND WAY TO STAY 14 SHULLE LASTED 60 DAYS DOING THIS.
How odd! Getting out was the right move, but have you considered calling the Buckeye PD non-emergency line and asking what, exactly, they think you did wrong? Just so you know if you messed up, or can clarify that you were right and they were wrong. You had the permit, after all.
Whoever went by on the ATVs snitched you off to the cops. It’s the only way they knew you were there unless you’re visible from a vantage point that they could see from a distance you would think they would have something better to do.

Kinda weird? Stayed back and used a blow horn to wake you up or actually talk to you! And if you were close but not at the right area, they could have said something!! I've paid to park when I did OTR EXPEDITE, parking at a Truck Stop and was still woken up and had to show proof of paying, I had just put it in the wrong place (was to be taped to passenger window, and I put it on dash) Sure makes it hard to go back to sleep!! And to top it off, that was in Tucson AZ!! Yeah didn't stay another night, moved on!! Got myself empty moved to Chicago, and from then on just stopped at rest areas!!
It seems Buckeye has annexed a very large parcel of land south of Gila River, that used to be State Land for water rights. If you go south a couple of miles, there is BLM land and National Forrest land on the west side of the road.
Taking advantage of people doesn't know nothing even if you know something. They just making money from all the people who does things for fun and for living. Because they don't want you to have fun and enjoy life and continue your life for a living with their rules. Actually, they are the ones are evil and very inhumane . It's not about security . It's all about money and make you miserable.
That is weird, but I sort of get it in part. In these times we are living in, way too many do not give the police the recognition most deserve. A few bad apples and tons of media attention have overshadowed the majority of good cops. Therefore, many cops now are more stand-offish than they have been in the past. The likelihood of a nutjob firing on them has risen much in the last decade. I know you are not a nutjob, but they don't. However, they should have waited and talked to you once you came out of the van. A simple conversation would have made all clear. I know it wasn't too big a deal besides being rudely awakened, but maybe a call to BPD and talking to a supervisor might let them know how they could do better in the future?
I’m glad your safe. Standing up to the police in some places can be a death sentence. Better to be safe , than sorry. However, I would follow up with the authorities. You did have the proper permission and should want to have clarification as to where is the proper place to camp with your permit. Stay safe 💞

Did you finish watching the video? The sign said no motor vehicles allowed. Having a permit to state trust land didn't matter, it wasn't a place the permit lets you drive/park.

The cop realized that you had a permit, so he left! Otherwise, he would have stayed around to make sure that you left.
