We even built our own little wood boxes with wire mesh to screen the dirt! Well, becoming diamond rich wasn't our calling that day. We found nothing and eventually made our way off to a corner of the park where there was some shade. Low and behold we came upon a couple of guys who had dug a hole down about 6 feet deep, and one of them had just found a whopper! A few people were gathering, including my friends and I, and we got to hold it and photograph it. The next day we stopped by the newspaper office to pick up the news story about it, which I still have around here somewhere! This was almost 40 years ago, and I still remember the name of the finder, Blankenship, that he was from Louisiana and was a regular at the park. And 9 carats stuck in my mind. Wonderful video guys. You have a natural way of interviewing people. You seem genuinely interested, and you are very respectful and polite. The camerawork is excellent, and the editing is flawless. Less (or lower volume) music to let viewers hear the sounds being made-swishing of the water as it swirls through the trays, etc. This video earned your channel a new subscriber. Great job. Can't wait to see what else you do!
51 years ago my family stopped there randomly on vacation and my mother found a three-quarter carat diamond that she had made into a pinky ring that’s never left her hand since.

I’m so glad to finally hear other people refer to it as rock hounding. I’ve been doing it since I was a young kid snd always called it that. People always had other terms for it or didn’t understand it (idk how). But that’s about the end of my mini rant.

There used to be a “diamond” mine in Herkimer, NY - later found out the place doesn’t have diamonds but rather double-terminated quartz crystals known as “Herkimer diamonds”. Very beautiful nonetheless. This place is the real deal! Wish I could get there for a weekend. Looks like fun.
We went once, stayed just a couple of hours, because we were just traveling through and didn’t stay the night. it was hot, dusty and dirty, but a fun experience, and I can see how people who do find something, could get hooked and keep coming back. I think for the most part, most people don’t find much, or if they do, they find very little, both in size and amount, after probably spending much more time there, regularly looking, or very few and far between someone is lucky and finds something spectacular, but I got the impression that even though the dirt is suppose to be turned over regularly, it seemed to me that it needed to be really tilled and turned over much deeper, as some other people have suggested. I guess you could dig deep and keep at it, if you spent enough time, but it seemed more like something you’d want to plan on doing when the weather was cooler, and staying at least a day, with a cooler full of water ice water, wet wipes, and whatever the regulars suggested. I’d also stay the night, and enjoy a nice shower and bed after a day out there, opposed to what we did, which was spending a few hours and then back in the road to finish our trip home. I think we ended up stopping after all, just from being so tired and dirty, not wanting to drive the rest of the trip without a shower ! Lol! Definitely better plan for next time. I’m not sure we’d do it again though, but glad we had the experience.
Arkansas native and went to college in the area. Been there several times. My favorite was when I chaperoned my daughter’s high school class on a field trip the mine. No finds. Wait a minute…Yes there were. Lots of fun, camaraderie and priceless moments.
I’ve encountered a handful of diverse characters, while digging for “precious stones”, in Florida. I wouldn’t dare hunt, in a state park, but this video sure left me wanting to hit the woods!
Diamonds are very common. The elite limit the flow of them each year. That makes them worth a lot. If the market was flooded with them they'd be worthless overnight!
They are very common but it’s mostly industrial companies that control them for their strength properties and then 1 single company that owns almost all the diamond jewelers companies
Well said at 17:41 ... " If you gotta go, you better go doin something you really like to do" Simply wonderful. (cheers for this guy!) Good way to live your life. Peace out all.
@@ThinkHarderr Amethysts might not be as expensive as diamonds, but they're still a precious gem. They only sell for 2 to 5 dollars per caret uncut, but they do look amazing when they get cut, and would make great jewelry. It's rude to say they aren't special just because they aren't diamonds. If you ever manage to find someone who cares about you enough, maybe you could try heading out and getting them a gemstone that has their favorite color as well.

How about, this guy is randomly approaching total strangers who were deep in their own business, and asking to mic them up, interview them on camera and put it on the internet. That's a bit daunting, and requires approaching with caution and respect, which is how I interpreted his behavior. If he was more "animated" people would be complaining about that. If he's more reserved and respectful, aware of his potential imposition, people complain about that. People who make vids on UA-cam can never win.

Wow, that is amazing! Have you been back since?
We thought we found a small diamond, but it was a small piece of glass from a broken Coke bottle, back in 1976, back before plastic bottles.
That’s so cool!!!
Keep it don't sell it.
You forgot speed. If it wasn’t for those 3 factors Heat, pressure, and speed. the diamonds wouldn’t exist at murfreesboro. most don’t know that.
Interesting!
Thank you. I lived about 30 miles from it for five years and went there once. I didn’t know half the stuff you shared in this great video. Thank you for your hard work. Great job.
Glad you enjoyed it!

I hope the man who lost his wife finds the legendary one out there. Such a nice seeming man "What else am I gonna do sit in front of a TV?"
That old man is awesome.
If it was me I'd pass him a diamond detector that's if they even have those just imagine how much easier it would be to collect diamonds with an invention like that he deserves it well I mean that's my idea or opinion what's yours.

I’m really surprised that this channel only has 17k subscribers! Definitely deserves more ^^
I was there when I was 12 on my mother's birthday. Went on a road trip to new Orleans from Chicago and had a great time since I was into gems and minerals. Great experience
Thank you,
I really like your style...you listen and that's what impressed me.
In my travels years ago and sometimes now, I've always found that the people I meet are far more interesting the the place itself.
We're all unique and it's surprising how quickly stereotypes vanish when you actually get to talk to individuals , some stories are fun, some disturbing and some tragic but their all slightly or a lot different.
Cheers,

They really ought to mechanically remove the top 5 ft and process it all at once and then start hand digging again once there is a fresh surface.
Good idea. There is no telling what might be found if they did that!
They do till the fields frequently just to expose new soil.
it looks like areas are tilled to keep things fresh and tourists coming
that'd be incredibly expensive & take a long time. I doubt the state would do that when it looks like they were just giving it to the people to deal with 😂
that old guy with the dead wife things he said were a punch in the feels
You did a good job presenting Arkansas' Crater of Diamonds State Park. Well done!
I’m so glad to finally hear other people refer to it as rock hounding. I’ve been doing it since I was a young kid snd always called it that. People always had other terms for it or didn’t understand it (idk how).
But that’s about the end of my mini rant.
Rock hound! A lot of people at the mining site were using that term - mostly the experienced folks. Have you ever been to Crater of Diamonds?
@@OfftheCuff_Series No I just found a video that went over it. It was one of those you tubers that travels the world finding cool places. I talked to my dad about it and he has heard about the mine. I told him we’re going sometime in the next few years. My family has been going down to herkimer mines to get those quartz diamonds since I was a baby. But we have found a couple local mines in Maine we frequent a lot, this year is the first year I brought my son rock hounding actually !
@@maine-ly Right on!! Did you find much Quartz?
I have been to a place like this in AR. I can't remember what its called, but I don't think this is the only place like this.

Turns out I should watch the video for more than 2 seconds before commenting.
Probably Bentonville😂
What concerns me is what this area means due to those being there and where is that crevass where those diamonds came from.
Beautiful place. Found one that was the size of a match head. They are there!!
@@urff1322 about 100 to 1000 per carat

My teacher went there before and gave up
then the next day some found a $10,000 diamond in the spot she was in
Sounds like a fake story that she told to teach your class a lesson about hard work and perseverance
Lol he she gunna know he was in her spot if she left the mine 🤣
One thing pricing, another selling it.

Great video. You’re a natural. You can open people up with your charm. Those Rock Hounds are great characters. They have a wonderful philosophy. This place is on my list.
I went here once and my kid made a lil rock bridge over the stream that ran in the middle and it surprisingly worked
I’ve been there before, it was a rally fun experience, a group of people and I found a giant vain of amethyst. We dug a hole 9x9x6 w-L-h
Not the only public Diamond mine. There is the hunt for the Diamond Edition Thomas The Tank going on.
Thanks for bringing some light to our little state, the rest of the place is honestly a gold mine of beauty and often times precious minerals.
I hope Rex finds a monstrous diamond one day and names it after his wife.

Loved it. Would really like trying that for a day. Also, presenter seems like a really chill/calm and genuine guy; subscribed.
What a great story. Sounds like an awesome adventure.

They are very common but it’s mostly industrial companies that control them for their strength properties and then 1 single company that owns almost all the diamond jewelers companies
they have to go down to 11th block to find diamonds i thought
yeah tf it must be a fake video
Fr they have to dig to y-11 mine level

@@ThinkHarderr Amethysts might not be as expensive as diamonds, but they're still a precious gem. They only sell for 2 to 5 dollars per caret uncut, but they do look amazing when they get cut, and would make great jewelry. It's rude to say they aren't special just because they aren't diamonds. If you ever manage to find someone who cares about you enough, maybe you could try heading out and getting them a gemstone that has their favorite color as well.

Love the video very informative, one thing though. My gf was behind me watching the video as well. And she brought up that the background music was overpowering your narration. I can testify that it was a true statement and know for certain that it was genuine because she's on her period and anything a woman says when shes's on her period is right , if not anything they say ever is right. Thank you for your time.

@@Ket0cs There's always somebody in the comments trying to project a negative angle onto to people they're watching in vids. Always some keyboard warrior complaining about something.
Knew what you were talking about before I even clicked on the video. I love my state, I really do.
There is a town in the south of Brazil where there are various kinds of gems and valuable rocks just popping out of the ground (kind like this video). Due to Brazilian law, you can't dig to get anything there, but you can take whats on the surface. My father has been there and he said he was just randomly driving around the outskirts of the town and he found a huge ruby, as he eas coming back, he found an emerald. Truly a very interesting place.
