she's SO beautiful that it could be easy for women to want to hate her. But she's so smart and fun and "present" that I just want to go have a couple of glasses of wine with her or something. But then -- it seems like Australians don't have "attitude" and being egomaniacal and a "diva" just isn't acceptable in their culture. (I lived in Dublin, Ireland for years in the mid-80s and it was the same there. The Irish ADORED celebrities -- but their behaving wasn't "adoring" -- they treated them like old friends rather than fawning --and rather expected the celebrities to do the same.)
I just Love Love Love how women can have power in culture today. In directing, producing, writing and acting. Not nearly enough, but yet! "We knew we wanted to do something together". I'm in awe, 10 years ago it wasn't like that. And I'm so glad.

Whoo-hoo, agree. I’ve always loved Margot. I was in a lift with her by accident in Sydney and we talked about shopping and a love of shoes. I asked about a photo and she didn’t look annoyed! 😂Her shoes were dirty tennis shoes that day which was funny. Her hair looked messy but her skin, whoa, awesome. She has this huge smile, too, which is super.
and Gerwig is simply BRILLIANT and hopefully will soon be a well-known name.
Women have had more rights than men for years, just admit you hate men and want to tear them down. Why does empowering women always have to be at the expense of men for you deranged people?

Is Barbie a feminist? I hate that question from that man. But Barbie could be everything she wanted to be. But for most of us girls it was more about the pretty clothes and hairstyles. And the dream house and car. We never question if she was a feminist.

Barbie is a feminist icon because she was the first Girl doll before that the dolls that existed for girls were baby dolls mostly, which reduced a woman's role to Mother and nothing else.
Yes! The one thing that I think is true, Greta and Margot seem to love everything about BarBiE. The pinkness, the fashion, etc. I’m so impressed by what they’ve done to bring her to life. I think this is one of the best representations of a toy brought to life. I cannot get enough BarBiE.

I feel like the question about Barbies being reffered to as BBQs is going a bit far. Yes it's slang for a BBQ... but how many Australians actually use it and if you are a kid playing with your Barbies - it's clear that you mean the doll...
Every Aussie refers to a BBQ as a Barbie... it is by far the most common name. But yes there is almost no context overlap, which is why it took a beat for Margo to mate the switch.

I am a huge fan of Greta Gerwig, and I hate the Project! Lol, only watching this for Greta. Queen of indie, so bizarre seeing you on this most mainstream TV show! I am happy for you and your success in directing such a massive film! Such a huge change from your previous work. Looking forward to seeing how 'Greta magic' somehow shines through in a shiny hollywood blockbuster.

I love Greta as well...her movies are special. Frances Ha is what I watch when I want to feel better about not fitting in. I haven't seen this movie, and surprisingly (or not surprisingly?) I'm not sure I want to. But yeah, I love her.

oh, she's saying "NET BALL"!! (aka "basketball). I'm actually really good at accents -- including Australian ones (lots of Australians visit S. Francisco) but I swear that, until the very end, I thought she was saying she played "Nipple" as it would be pronounced in a working-class London (or Cockney) accent!

She was producing the movie way before she was cast as Barbie. Also actors have no power to bring people on board, it's not technically their project.

@davidleary4524 you did see the box office numbers for those films right? vs their production and marketing budgets all 3 of those you mentioned were box office bombs
@davidleary4524 typically you would double a movies budget to account for marketing. Those 3 films combined would have made 200 million. Barbie at 200m would break even. Which may be fine as typically Matel would make money from its merchandising, but the film has a very narrow appeal with unpopular politics attached. As it stands it's an unlikely winner at the box office for the moment
