Great idea and nicely executed. The only possible improvement i would think to try if i make this is use one half of the barrel as the inner skin as you have and then use the other half to make an outer covering over the insulation.
Another option is filling layer of fire cement inside barrel then cover outside cement vermiculite mixture then bricks on top. This way metal no contact with fire moisture rust etc.barrel becomes the structure template
Legit pizza my friend. If you want to keep your eyesight, stop welding with those glasses and at least use a handheld welding mask. You’ll be blind before you know it.
freakin awesome... i've been watching diy oven builds for the last week and this is the first one that actually pops out great neapolitan pizza and the build is cheap and easy thank you for figuring this out and for posting it!
A good oven can only produce a great pie if the dough is prepared properly including type of flour, cold fermentation and proper stretching. The other videos you've watched, like I have, have used garbage dough prep techniques and the cook had no idea what goes into preparing a Neapolitan pie.
Well done! I expected just another pizza oven build video, but this is actually works quite well. And most of all you pizza skills are impressive, like a true Italian chef! Thanks for sharing
Very good job with it, and your handling of the Pizza is good enough, I'm Italian, you can trust me. Any suggestion to cover the aluminum layer to get a better looks?
One of the few good diy ovens. You can improve that even when you fill out the oven side and top with firebricks. Then you would have a thermal mass and it would basically have no difference to real wood fired ovens.
Watched it again and am even more impressed the 2nd time. If you have the other half of the barrel, or access to another one, you can lay it on top of the aluminum insulation, paint it and make it look fancy. Do you need to? No, but should the desire strike to make it even more impressive........
GJ. I'm planning to build something similar this days. Only mine would be gas powered and significantly smaller. I would use only half of same 200l barrel in hight. And less than half in width. I would put big gas burner going all the way one side of owen, some thinner bricks because idea is to be able to reach temperature fast.
Very nice video of your design and build. I have a friend that built something similar but he added a “U” shaped 2 inch/ 5cm metal from the front, flanking the door, down the sides and across the back. The back 1/3 of the pipe was perforated with holes or slots cut into the pipe. The ends extending through the front of the barrel on either side of the door were open, allowing combustion air to flow to the back of the fire. He claims that by providing combustion air at the back behind the fire, the front stones will not cool as fast from fresh air coming into the oven. Have you tried using a Dutch oven to slow cook within the barrel? Again, sincere thanks for sharing this insightful video. Wishing you and your family a blessed week. Cheers
This is great! Finally a diy pizza oven that gets to the right temperature for neapolitan pizza. I am going to build this next month. Just one question. Would you change or improve something to the build, now that you have worked with the oven? Is the insulation of the oven floor ok? I understand that you are a pizza chef so any comment will help me a lot! Thank you
Hello Putra, Great Job, loved seeing my oven and pizza at the 6 second mark of your video :) You did a great job on your oven and your pizzas look great! If I were you i would make your oven stand higher, it will help so you do not need to bend over so much to launch and turn your pizzas so that the opening of you oven is about 40" high. Keep up the great work!!!
awesome ..ive been dreaming of buying an oven too since many years, but as you,i too found it very expensive . now im going to make one like yours..how I wish I had seen this video before,as i was in Bali just 2 weeks back...
Do you have problem with rust? If my prototype from barrel turn success i would probably made another one from stainless steel still and looking nice. What you use to make turning peel?
Not really, once the oven get to temperature everything will clear up by it self. Im not sure what it is, i think stainless steel for the pizza turning peel
you cant just move the pizza around on new positions , the pizza wil burn on the buttom if you replace it on a hotter place , and important is to check the buttom colour , evrytime you lift up the pizza you need to control the buttom ofthe pizza to know if its burnt to fast ,
If you could give us the detailed dimensions it would even better. So we can try it ourselves too. Nevertheless it’s a great and simple project than building a complicated brick 🧱 or concrete pizza projects. Will it taste good as the brick pizza oven though?
Your oven looks awesome. Just light your fire in the center until hot and then push the red coal back with a wet cloth on a wooden stick. This way you will get less turning and crispier bottom. Good work.
