- 🔥 Wapiti Fire Update 🔥
No major growth on the Wapiti Fire yesterday, thanks to heavy smoke and low winds.
Crews worked hard, building handlines and dozer lines ahead of the fire. They also continued burning operations to remove fuels in its path, aiming to reduce intensity and lower the chances of spot fires for when the fire picks back up.
But the weather is about to shift, potentially increasing fire behavior. Stay tuned for a separate post on the upcoming weather changes.

Hey Jon, been following your updates. I have a backpacking trip planned Sep 9-17
Plan A was Sawtooth Loop.... this was scrapped a few weeks ago.
Plan B was the White Clouds... what' your thoughts on what the white clouds are like now and / or throughout the next 2 weeks... should I even bother? If it's gonna be socked in with smok, im gonna shift to plan C.
Plan C is Cirque de Towers in WY. Long ass road trip but hopefully far enough away.
Thanks for doing what you do. Keeping everyone up to speed in such a dynamic situation is invaluable.
What should I do?

Did the Stanley Lake campground burn?
The Infrared flight shows scattered heat in the campground. I haven't seen confirmation. It appears the dispersed camping has burned.
No. It did not. Campground is intact.
