I loved Sigma 6, in the beginning I just bought all of the Snake Eyes and Storm Shadows and both of the Fireflys (the 1st one was a Joe, he was a double agent. he showed up as Lt. Stone's partner) Then it became whatever caught my eye. Stone is a rally fun figure and Dark Ninja Master is spectacular in his absurdity. When the line shifted, the Adventure Team sets were must buys.
By the end I was grabbing lots of figures on the cheap even if it was just for accessories.
BTW: The hellicopter SE and corresponding SS were double jointed. they were FANTASTIC figures.

The packaging becoming a storage locker for the wealth of accessories you got really makes this line look majestic in hindsight, but I remember being so "meh" on it at the time. Now I would love a line similar to this! And weren't these $14.99? GOD. Simpler times. Now we are lucky to get an extra or hands with a $19.99 figure.

Good figures. I owned the Snake Eyes, but wasn’t sold on collecting the rest. Hasbro used the same joint system here as they did with their early ML figures, and I remember liking the joints on the Sigma 6 figures but hating them on the MLs.

Great video about an intriguing part of GI Joe history. I didn’t buy any of the line but it was an interesting aesthetic that I imagine I would have liked as a kid. I remember the vehicles with the small figures as being particularly cool looking. Great design and- like M.A.S.K.- the smaller scale figures helped make the vehicles feel more epic.

I was pretty firmly entrenched in the GI Joe collector world back then, even advised/helped write the stories for the Joe comic for a while.. and I actually like Sig6 more as a novelty line now than I did back when it was new. At that time there was a lot of hype about it & a rift occurred between fans who embraced the 8" scale as the new Joe & those who wanted all that R&D money to go into a better 3 3/4" product (which, eventually, it did). I was in the latter camp & as such was overly critical and damning of the Sig6 line.. probably unfairly so out of fear of loss of 3 3/4" Joe.

I loved the artistic design style of the characters. The package was very creative too with the tops and bottoms forming the locker and a repetitive blinking led light in the package got your attention at the store. I was saving for a house and wasn't buying toys then but in 08 I caved and tracked them down, mostly on eBay. Some of those leds were still blinking, though faintly. Since then I got hooked on collecting other figures like transformers & marvel legends. This was my gateway back into toys.

I remember thinking that they were OVER packaged and that the line could have done better without as many bells and whistles. Money was tight for me at the time as well and I had to pass every time I saw them.

The 2007 Sigma 6 (Adventure Team etc) is my favorite part of the Sigma line. Recondo, Gung Ho, Shipwreck, Commando Snake Eyes, Lockdown...and the prototypes of Joe Colton (with the gorilla), Dusty (with the scorpion) and Short Fuse...it was getting so good, and then suddenly, it's done. And its wild to think, these guys were retailing for like $10 and $15. How times have changed!!!

The Sigma Six line, I'm pretty sure, was modeled after the original GI Joe line from the 1960's. With real clothing & a larger scale, though not as towering as its 12 inch originator, the later Sigma Six figures would go on to feature the classic "Kung Fu Grip." Though this reimagining was a spring loaded mechanism instead of the original rubber material, it was still an homage to the classic GI Joe of my Father's days. Still trying to complete my GI Joe Sigma Six Combat Squad collection, got 2 of 6 excluding the Box Set. One of the best stylized toy lines in my opinion.
Awesome vid like usual, thanks again for shining some light on another short lived & overlooked but incredible toy line. Keep up the incredible work.

Toy Galaxy - They had the three levels of packs, though. The standard figure with some accessories and no footlocker, the deluxe figure with tons of accessories and a foot locker, then the super deluxe figures with a figure, accessories, footlocker, and some other thing like a vehicle or a totem or animal. That line was all over the place in terms of what they were marketing. It was a beautiful bit of chaos.

I eventually picked up the ninja armor snake eyes and the Motorcycle.
A month or two later I found at a garage sale a used Destro there was a small stain or scratch on top of the head so I kind of threw me off but I had that.
Outside of that I never really picked up any of the others because of the time I was getting older and I was kind of phasing out of GI Joe for a little while so I made the very bad decision of selling my collection because now looking back on it I wish I had a chance to button some of the other figures, which is where ebay comes in.

The 8 inch Sigma scale was awesome. I was really disappointed when they canceled it before we could get Scarlett, Baroness, Dreadnoks, and Cobra Troopers. The vehicles were great, but they really dropped the ball with the figures that were supposed to interact with them by making them mostly little statues frozen in exaggerated action poses and glued to wide foot bases. Additionally, they re-released several older 3 3/4 vehicle molds into the line, but they didn't bother to re-tool the seats and cockpits so the 2 inch Sigma figures just rattled around and slipped into the area under the steering wheel. The 8 inch figures were the real stars though. I highly recommend the Battlefield General version of Cobra Commander because he comes with a faceplated helmet that looks more like the original and a massive, wicked looking bazooka that would make Scrap Iron blush!

I have the Duke in the blue vest, Long Range, the Destro and a Heavy Duty and Tunnel Rat from the line. Only one I have on a shelf is Destro but I have long Range's double barrel in his free hand cause come on, Destro with a double barrel for the win! lol

  • @CobraSaboteur
    @CobraSaboteur 6 років тому

As a die hard Joe 3.75 collector, I still absolutely loved this line and bought many doubles to open up and display. The colorful costumes, fantastic POA (which is still impressive to me even by today's standards) and AWESOME accessories these figs came with just made them a ton of fun. Long Range is by far one of my favs with his ridiculous 8ft long sniper rifle that broke down into like a dozen pieces lol. Most importantly, I felt you were getting a real bang for your buck when it came to figure pricing/value. So many cool figures, especially the "combat force" sub-line which was more paramilitary styling and realistic. Grand Slam, Leatherneck, Inferno, Torpedo, Tunnel Rat, Destro V2 with his "bank robbing" gear, the Recondo box set, Shockwave, Lockdown, Wet Suit, Gung Ho, Iron Grenadier, Desert Wolf, etc etc etc. Despite the line not lasting long, Hasbro really provided a great assortment of characters with so much style, POA and accessories, that it doesn't even feel like the same company made them going by today's standards. Sure the line wasn't anything close to "traditional" but that's what made them unique and cool. I personally believe the line is one of the most underrated toy lines ever made.

It was a great attempt at "modernizing" the brand. Just wasn't what the older fans who grew up with it wanted at the time.

Oh no doubt and very true. The 25th anniversary SA 3.75 collection they released is still, in my opinion, the best thing that the company has ever done. It was VERY susccessful too (even outselling the then very good SW SA 3.75 lines at the time) and obviously led Hasbro to replicate the success by creating the same concept for the SW SA 3.75 Vintage Collection. Almost ten years later I am STILL bitter that the 25th/Vintage Joe line ended after only 18 months...to pave way for the movie line garbage. While I am more than for the idea of a 6in Vintage style boxed Black Series take on Joes, I would want nothing more than an extension/continuation of the 25th Joe line into a full fledged mainstream line, like they did for the SW SA 3.75 vintage collection...which they are finally bringing back next year due to fan demand. My son is 4 & 1/2 years old and would love nothing more than to take him to the store, actually buy joes again and let him experience the awesomeness of the brand as I did growing up. Of course, I would buy one of each for me as well lol. I own a rather ridiculous action figure collection and out of ALL of the lines that I have and have collected to completion over the past 20+ years, I would say having a full collection of every 25th era Joe figure/set/vehicle is probably still the crown jewel of it all. No matter what Hasbro does, for good or for bad, I'm still beyond pissed that there's not a single damn Joe figure/line on the market right now, 25th/vintage style or otherwise. Every time I hear the Hasbro team at cons talk about bringing back joes when the new movie comes out, I want to vomit in my mouth. The writing is on the wall. The success has been proven. Give the damn fans a SA 3.75 Vintage style Joe line again and IT...WILL...SELL. While their at it, make a 6in black series line too and Hasbro will have more money rolling in across both scales/lines than they know what to do with. Ahhhhh makes me so mad lol.

This line of Joes was an oddball, for sure, and and a bit of an acquired taste. Having grown up in the late 80's with the 3 3/4 figures as a standby, Sigma 6 figures seemed strange at first. Once I dipped my toes in, though...it made sense. Never saw the Sigma 6 cartoon either. My love for this line stems solely from the figures. The weapons, the proportions and scale, the modular aspect, the weapons, the anchor and attachment points for the weapons, the posing options and joints on the figures, as well as the weapons, make this line unique and immersive - regardless of any exterior input. The figures themselves, the accessories, and the packaging were interesting, and very functional.
Like many others have noted, the cloth and elastic will age questionably, and there is a bit of (mostly) cloth for these figures. Overall, the line is hugely creative, and very enjoyable once preconceived notions are set aside.

I picked them up only because I had purchased all the current Transformer figures at the time, and I was curious. I pulled them from storage the other day. Stormshadow's white had yellowed, so to fellow collectors that is a issue with this toy and how you store it.

Definitely the new 40th anniversary Vader. A good Luke is the hard part Xwing Luke is expensive ROTJ and ESB as well maybe landspeeder Luke which is on clearance? Han and 40th anniversary Leia can be found reasonably still I think. Don't know what after that depends on if you like A Force Awakens or want to stick to the original trilogy. I hope they do make one regardless of what I say here. Anyway Good luck!

I must confess that I have a LOT of these guys...Just got all caught up in the acquisition of any thing Joe-related. They were kinda cool in concept, like you said! BackBlast, Grand Slam and Heavy Duty were huge, like 9" Tall Duke Flint Gung Ho, Spirit etc. were around 8" tall and Tunnel Rat was about 7" tall. So, you had realistic size differences, and some figures had spring loaded hands(sort of Kung Fu Grip). And some versions of Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow had double jointed elbows and knees for additional poseabilty...But, They didn't stick around and faded fast!!!! Now, I have a bin full of low mileage figures!!! But, it's all good!!!! It had potential, but, I guess Hasbroke failed to commit!

I have the Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow figures, along with the Ninja Bike for the 8" figures. I did like the line, just never got around to buying more figures. Also, there was a line of smaller figures in 2.5" scale I believe, which is also the scale of figures all the vehicles for the line were made for, which was a shame because the line had some really cool vehicle concepts, but you couldn't then use them with 3.75" figures. Additionally, all the 2.5" figures for the line were basically statues as I recall from the promotional material, and I'm not interested in statue type figures especially in GI Joe which has always had highly articulated figures, which is why I never bought any of those. I could be wrong about the level of articulation on the 2.5" figures though.

In the time these came out, I stopped buying Transformers ARMADA toys coz I got most of them that came out on retail. I was very much into buying and completing the toy line of MARVEL LEGENDS by ToyBiz. I also Got some of the toys from the Classics X-men and Spider-man line. Occasionally I get a ToyBiz TNA and JAKKS WWE Action figures too. Also, I Got all the TMNT from the series that came out in the time and HE-MAN stuff. Damn I spent most of my money on toys. I think I survived living in college with only Cans of Tuna and rice and instant Noodles. XP
I own only 5 Sigma Six action figures. I was so hyped when these were about to come out. I Played with my Snake Eyes a lot. If the designs of these Action figure were based on their appearance for THE REAL AMERICAN HERO line, I would have bought more.
