As a Phatom main, please take this advice everyone
Ong idk if it’s placebo effect, but I position and aim better when I buy half shield.
@@chrisliao8300same reason you play better in a 1v5. Sense of danger makes you play more careful
@@chrisliao8300 Same for me but with skins
Yes I fully agree you can full buy every round and the phantom is hard to aim because of the suppressor taking more than half the screan
The comments seemed to not get what I meant
I'm saying buy half shields so I can kill you all faster for not buying to counter my gun, if I run phantom and you buy half shields I can 1 tap headshot you
This used to be a thing when Valorant first released. People were saying full shields are a no-go because if you’re getting hit in the head, you’re dead. Yes, sometimes you get dinked by a Phantom from long range, but if the enemy players are good enough, they’re going to land another shot on you.
I’ve been doing this pretty much since then, and it does feel nice being able to “full” buy almost every round. Nice to see this coming back TBH. Now, it’s only a matter of having teammates that can *manage* their Econ and not having half the team full buy and the other half light buy and then your team is stuck in an almost endless cycle of half full and half light buying. Then, because you managed you’re Econ properly, they of course want you to buy them… 🙄
yeah true
been using this tactic since i came back from my break around half a year ago and it always works
Is half the team full buying an issue? If one does dies the others can pick up his gun
Yup, I generally buy half econ for a majority of the game until the last few rounds where I can full buy. (and have a few thousand saved over to carry if we lost the round so I can full buy again.)
Anytime I have econ left over it's spam pinging 'I need this' and 'Hey levi, can you buy me?' "Dude, can you buy me?' 'Actually throwing, not gonna play for spike because Levi won't buy with extra creds'
Like the only reason I have extra creds is because I'm top fragging as a controller while you're a duelist going 7-14
@@yairv13 see what your saying, but it doesn’t work that way. Your better off having at least 4 full rifles(preferably 5) in a buy round. But if you are on an eco and you can afford to vandal no shield I would do it cause you either win the fight and play for that gun or die and your tm8s pick up the gun
Please if you're under diamond don't follow this tip.
This applies to pro and with high quality gunfights where headshots are the absolute go-to and everyone is competent enough to not screw it up.
At lower elos you'll find yourself fighting over every single HP much more due to people not having the same level of precision.
Even with vandal body shots, light and full shields are the same. Even in silver, people are rarely shooting legs. Only difference is when enemy team is on eco and are forcing things like stingers, spectres etc.

This definitely aged well with the Outlaw released now

The outlaw was added to the game because of this strat😂
The thing is, you have to analyze the weapons that your enemies use, you cant just go half shield everytime, you have to consider their economy and weapons.
Exactly, so like when they use smg do heavy shield if possible but if they're full rifle just buy light shield
@@pscsls for smgs tho, not much difference really, its still 5 shot in the body 2 shot in the head, only difference is range
@@NeXbi That's the thing though, when you have the weapon advantage, you have to maximize that difference, and buying heavy shields is one way to do that
@@Flakid123 idk fnatic begs to differ
@@lemmyboy4107 no they do not. They buy heavy against ecos.
If ur enemy has an Odin, don't go for this strat. This is exactly how Fnatic made a counter to their own eco strategy (Odin and the trust they had on their abilities landing)
i was taught that buying down an armour to buy up on a gun is always the better investment
it depends on your elo and what weapons they are using. if youre getting 1 tapped in the head every round, go light shields, if they are spraying you and running like idiots, go heavy. the reasons pros dont need heavy shields is because most of the time they will get 1 tapped anyways. so having better guns to even the odds works out for them
@@M0n4rcagreed
Very much depends on the enemy team, if you've just won pistol round and you buy a vandal with no shields, you're much more likely to just give up a rifle to the enemy team when you've got no shields to protect you.
@@Argennon its not about having no shields, its about the fact that light shield better gun is better than heavy shield worse gun. u dont want heavy armor bulldog / guardian over light armor vandal.
@@M0n4rc for vandals it doesnt matter, which is also the gun 80% of ppl use. it doesnt matter if its a hs or not, ttk stays the same. same goes for OP, same ttk / bullets to kill.
the reason for light isnt about headshots or not generally, its about saving 600 a round for a small disadvantage, but gaining more full buy rounds.
outlaw, sheriff, phantom : are we a joke to you
Guys only do the half shields strat when you need to save credits for next so if you lose you don't need to full save the next. Once you start winning some rounds and get enough credits please just buy full shields because you'll just be playing at a disadvantage for no reason.
😊
Guardian mfs 2 tapping everyone on the body:
Nrg decided to do it first but they found out it didnt work for them so they discontinued using it
I was gonna say this. 2022 LCQ era NRG deffo did this first
Thank you bro for commenting this I was gonna say it too. There did it before and just because they were not that famous them will not get the credit
Outlaw: hold my beer I am going to 1 tap them with 2 bullets 😂.
outlaw completely changes this with a body shot doing 130
140*
140*
Note that there isn't just Vandal damage in Valorant.
If it was in cs then it would be completely broken but in valorant there is a lot of spells that make zone damage and are not eligible to the 125 = 150 because vandal makes 160.
Wallbangs exist too. 25 hp makes a huge difference in maps like ascent/bind
Ok but...SPELLS???
@@Words-of-encouragement.-.abilities or spells whatever it is who cares
Outlaw: 💀
Phantom and outlaw demons are bouta hit some crazy clips
As an outlaw main, please agree with this tip.
Outlaw and phantom: you underestimating my power mortal
A quick point to make on this tactic is it works best if you try to take gun fights and you respect your opponents abilities. If you half buy shields then that Raze grenade, molly or bind is going to be much deadlier and will make opponents eco rounds much easier. you need to play very safe to make this work so if you like getting agressive this may only hurt your playstyle
This may need to be updated due to the release of the 140 bodyshot outlaw being added lol
I actually noticed this just last night since i was mucking around in unrated and never bought heavy shields and for some reason I was able to buy vandals a lot
no one: the outlaw one tapping you unless you have full shield:
Outlaw: Im about to end this mans whole carreer.
Outlaw: Im about to end this whole man's career
I guess you would also have to consider the enemy comp. If they have a raze and a lot of mollys then maybe full shield would be good for the chip dmg. But if they don’t have Molly and made then it wouldn’t seeem necessary.
Two conditions to make that profitably:
-Don't do that when opponents are eco, because against shitty weapon, the extrashield make a world of difference
-Don't do that if opponents play phantom when fullbuy
This is the worst tip ever you could give to a person in a low Elo xD
Bro even some diamond/ascendant players dont know how economy works. This will fuck them up even more haha
I'm on bronze 3 and this literally work for me in every match , all i do is use some game sense, not dying by crouch firing and go for op in every 3rd round
fnatic the world champs won with this strat and bro just said its bad 💀
@@abhiramyanamandra9403 at pro level players are good and hitting head shots at low elo players are bad and spraying body so heavy shields is a difference maker a lot more often
no headshot in low elo😂
It's also that high elo teams usually hit headshots so it doesn't really matter if 125 or 150 health but at lower elo when lots more body shots happen it's better with full
This is really good strat in high elo, but since i and also most players dont have high ranks people dont shoot heads in their lobbies… that means that heavy shield can sometimes be more then essencial. Specially on round, where there is weak buy and additional 25 shields make the difference of winning the fight
I followed eve tips from a couple of big teams, but the ones from this channel are really really great.
only works for the top level where you expect that every interaction is a Headshot. If youre not top 20 Radiant or a pro, just buy heavy shields
As a mid elo player I tried this It does work with some characters but I think gull shield is still better in low elo
also a guardian can 2 tap you to the body. but you won’t run into that much
Yeah I've been using half shield since forever (the first time 100t or fnatic used half shields) and I liked the reason.
Ever since then I've only ran into guardian mains like 1 or 2 times (I'm only plat tho)
Biggest problem is definitely the chip damage you get by utility. A skye dog hitting you removed your entire shield and even a cypher trip hitting you (it does 5 dmg) makes you 120 hp which means only 3 bullets required to kill you
I always buy full shield due to my low elo, where people suck more at marksmanship and I fight for and with every hp I have. I also prefer cheaper weapons.
I personally go full shield when the enemy doesn’t has credits for full buy, and light when they do
I think the fact that the meta right now is basically rifle + op, half shield really flourish. But after some time, i think if half shield meta continues, people will start to play shotgun more often, as it punish the half shield.
You need to see if the opponents full buy. Also, if you're gonna max out, you buy full shields too. Its a very situational thing
An incredibly important factor completely left out here was that of the opponents’ econ. If they are on a save or a weaker buy, the gimmicky power of light shields doesn’t work with how the scaling on pistols (save the sheriff) and specters are. The only real way a save can win is if they get a gun from the full-buying team and light shields dramatically increase that chance. Hope this helps!
There is a big difference when someone goes to vct they can hit headshots. People in my silver lobbies aren’t clicking heads so the heavy’s are more affective.
Bulldog is also a incredibly underrated weapon at close to medium ranges and is roughly 900 creds cheaper. It’s spray is also so easy to control and transfer. Some of my best multi kills are with a bulldog because of its versatility
I’ve always felt it’s useless to but full shield especially when I used to main Reyna, because in higher ranks you’re gonna get onetapped to the head anyways so yeah
For me personally it has led to me getting a better K/D cuz I have better guns for most of the rounds instead of buy, eco, buy, eco, buy, eco. I’ll buy a full shield if I survived the round before. I make sure I have the minimum for small shield and gun
im very sure those pros saw how i played once or twice cuz thats what ive been doing since i started this game, glad im not wrong to do so cuz all my teammates pressure me to go full while light is way better, and for the record i figure this secret out myself and i dont watch pros so i dont copy them
Correct me if I'm wrong, Fnatic only did this strat on Pearl with Phantom buy in mind. Because Pearl is a close range Map. This strat must be used only in certain situations, and it's map dependent. Not only is it map dependent, it's also map area dependent too.
I was using this while i still play the game. Its a huge difference in economy but not a huge difference in armor actually. Dont buy full armor expect 999lvl econ rounds.( Just to note it: i was diamond 3 when i sold my account because bored of game)
If you are in lower elo don’t do this very often most players in low elo spray a lot so saving to buy full is your best bet🤷
I'm so glad I've been doing this before even pros knew about it
i usually go stinger light shield combo. works good enough and i got extra creds for me or teammates
and thats why they added the new sniper: on half shield it replaces operator
He got the point. Also vandal 1st bullet spread is sucks, there's always a chance of surviving from getting one tap. It's really not making so much different. I guess now it's Phantom + Half Shield era
Fun thing is, Fnatic popularised the strat, but they've also figured out it's counter... If you look at their match against TL in the VCT, you can see they play utility-heavy champions along with a little Odin spam that make every hit point count.
Overall it's situational, I think... But more often than not you will find yourself in situations where the enemy team is just going Vandal and dueling you from long range so yeah go light shields
I am a Chypher main and my pistol round buys are light shield and 1 of each upgrade. I know 90% if the other players will buy a ghost or some other gun so when they die I can pick it up and go well with it. Also ghost what is the most common kinda good gun in the pistol round can deal 100+ on head but with the light shield the gunman needs to hit 2 time but I only need 1 clear shot. You should still buy the ghost, why you ask? So I can take it when you die👹
Been doing this since the start of act 1 on early rounds and upgrading it when eco was good.
the animation at the start is VCT reloaded for anyone wondering
me and my duo have done this every game since vct and its true full buy allmost every round
Strat definitely varies. If you're going against a Raze, Sova, or Killjoy I would recommend heavy shields. For a team that lacks chip damage though, light shields are def the way to go. This is further augmented if you have a healer on your side as well, as you technically get more value from their heal.
The half shield method only makes sense when you know that you enemies can consistently headshot you.(which is the case in Pro games) in low Elo however, where a lot of fights are decided by pure chance, buying half shields might loose you the round
I started playing maybe 2 months ago and I guess I realized this on my own over my first few weeks of playing because I almost always have the best econ on my team and I always go light sheild
Just to clarify this only works jf your enemies are good enough to land another shot after they dink you. This is not a good route lower elos where most people go for body shots anyways
I do this already unless we win the round then I buy full shield. I'm new to the game so I just kinda figured that was the best thing to do??? Didn't know their was a trick to this.
I’ve got the ultimate hack for saving creds
Bucky +light shields+all utile
Which will come ti a total of 2050 creds at max
Works very well on maps with a lot of corners ex. Heaven, ascend, split, etc.
Outlaw : "hold my beer"
If you manage Econ well and aren’t in the top 5% of players people don’t hit headshots that often. Headshot percentage is low in lower elos, you survive off 49-10 hp quite often and there are heals in the game. But compare that to high elo where people have insane crosshair placement and headshot percentage, yea full shields aren’t quite as valuable especially on attack, healers are also rarely played in higher elos because of that, so it really depends on not only the elo but the situation itself, because just never buying full shields is a terrible idea especially if you are a few rounds ahead.
heals are if anything LESS played in low elos actually. idk where u got this from. sage is played a lot in high and low elo, but skye is more played in higher ranks.
also this is for full buy rounds, where ppl have rifles and OPs, not smgs and pistols. and for vandal which is what ppl use 80% of the time, hs or not not, it doesnt matter.
if ur enemy is using vandal, do this, if they using phantom, dont.
just check the damages of their guns, whatever they pick, then decide.
If other team is buying a lot of half shields use more alternative guns (e.g. shotguns) as counter
The main way this is now suggested is that if you have 5-6 thousand or more credits buy full sheild, but if have less, buy light sheild to save money.
Yes I use this especially when using reyena it's such an underrated tactic got me from s1 to g1
I rarely buy armour cuz I usually die even before I got into a fight and when I am in a fight I somehow end up getting shot by 3 different people that was not even my target.
knew this before anyone in pro scene used this, shouldve made it a tip myself LOL
Note for the half shield is recommended for higher ranks the reason they dont buy full shields is because everyone is hitting for headshots
They also don't need heavy shields because their aim is so good either they're getting one tapped every time or nah
before 1st vct championship I'm using this trick😅
and my teammates were shocked how this guy have buy every round.
Buy full shield on enemy eco rounds, they cant 1 tap and dmg needs to stack up higher to get you killed (unless they have a marshal, but thats the only thing)
I used to play with this reyna who would never buy shields
This reminds me of what we used to do in CS. If we're on CT and on a buy round, the terrorists would most likely opt for the AK that would one tap with helmet so we'd just buy chest armor.
as a reyna main i buy half shields almost every round unless im close to max fundies. reyna also can heal herself to full shield so theres no point in buying full 95% of the time for me
Do this mainly on Reyna in solo q, you wont be punished as hard compared to other agents.
Worth noting is that Odin counterstrats the halfshields on some maps. Fnatic does this at Lotus bare minimum, but i would assume that ascent is more than good too to use Odin against halfshields.
If you know that you'll just die quickly then just buy a light armor... (yes i suck at dis game)
Buy heavy armor if you are comfortable with the weapon you have or weapon that you know to control its recoil.
In a game with one tap mechanics hp does not matter much just perfect one tap guns and you don’t have to worry even if you are one hp as long as you get the first shot off on the head then your good
In an environment where 1 shot headshots are the expected, going full armor is kinda bad and im surprised it took so long for it to become the norm
I always do this, only going full shields for 2nd round and when I have high econ all the other times I stick with light since I still survive off 3 body shots with light and even with heavy you'd still die to 4 body shots
I think this works with high elos since they are only tapping heads compare low elos where they crouch spray, so might find yourself in a disadvantage in those fights
not really, you still survive 3 body shots with light and die to 4 even with heavy
@@skisse9328 true but what about other guns like spectres bulldogs and guardians but I guess that's situational
@@tansworld2513 true thats why personally how I play I buy full armor for 2nd round since that's when most people do use the spectre/stinger and body spray but the rounds after that most use the vandal/phantom where I switch to light til I get my econ high then use heavy armor when I'm up so I guarantee I have my vandal almost every round with shield
NO in low Leo full shield is better because nobody hits headshots but when most people hit their headshots then you should buy light shield
Outlaw: May I introduce myself
I had a game yesterday where I did bulldog and light, took 0 damage, and picked up a vandal. Team forced me to buy full shields, even though I only had to buy util. Would have liked to save, but I don't think it affected anything further
If you can full buy shield and still have enough for the next round, you definitely shiuld be upgrading. This strat only applies when you have enough for light shields now and the next round. If youre winning, you shiuld be going full shields. What i mean is, if you have 9k credits, you shouldnt be gping light shields 😅
I always bonus my light shields unless it's crunch time or I'm gonna max out
Only if wallbang doesn’t exist, in high elo they like to pre fire and wallbang everything in case they hit someone
Me who use a stinger: yes please continue
Only works in high elo though, gold or lower tend to aim at the body and crouch
Ive been doing it since the start and my team starts whining and telling me that im throwing with 20 kills top frag mid game
The Outlaw Loves this metha
The answer if the phantom doing 140 for sure-
And it's pretty constant-
As me i think iam a idoit when doing this but this cheer me up
When the first time i play valorant i thought heavy shield gonna slow me down.
Yeah i did this since the beggining of the game
The thing with amor is not exactly right, if the enemy team has either a lot of chip damage character like raze, KJ or viper or is in a eco round (while you buy) full shield is actually very valuable.
When someone buying Light sheild phantom users is so glad
yeah but you also can be one shot with a phantom from far away
Depends, if ur diamond and up, where most fights are down to headshots yes. If ur low elo, def no
